Chapter 270 - Chapter 269: Lisa's Speculation

After leaving the Knights' headquarters, Yu Xie and Ei went on their way, while Jean continued with her daily tasks. Although much of her work consisted of trivial matters, she didn't find it tiresome. Instead, she felt like there was never enough time in the day.

Meanwhile, Lisa took a book from the bookshelf, sat down on the sofa, and quietly read.

Lisa had advised Jean many times that while work was important, it was equally essential to take breaks and not immerse herself in work to the point of exhaustion.

Every time this topic came up, Jean would vaguely deflect, clearly trying to avoid the subject.

As the acting Grandmaster, Jean knew she had to manage the Knights and govern Mondstadt well during Grandmaster Varka's absence. Otherwise, how could she face him when he returned?

Jean was too serious, so serious that she completely ignored her own rest time.

"Jean, I've been telling you, haven't you been working non-stop for weeks without a break? How about we go for a walk in the countryside tomorrow? Just a little break to unwind," Lisa said as she continued reading the book in her hands.

She had suggested this to Jean a few days ago, but Jean always replied, "Next time, for sure."

"Next time, huh? I still have some work to finish up, and once that's done, I'll take a day off." As expected, Jean's response was the same, and Lisa wasn't surprised at all.

Lisa glanced at Jean, silently sighed, and went back to reading her book.

In her hands was a book containing information about the Knights of Favonius, documenting the deeds and profiles of individuals who had made significant contributions to the order.

There were many books like this in the Knights' library, and Lisa had read most of them when she was bored. However, today, she had found one in Jean's office that she hadn't read before, and this book appeared to be quite old.

After reading for a while, Lisa realized that the content of this book was similar to that of other books in the library, but there were also differences.

For example, the account of "Young Wolf" Rostam, the vice-captain of the Knights of Favonius five hundred years ago, was more detailed in this book.

The founder of the Knights of Favonius Swordsmanship, vice-captain of the Knights of Favonius, and holder of numerous honors, Rostam, was awarded the title of "Young Wolf" at the age of 27. He ultimately died in the "Shadow Dragon Durin" incident.

This was common knowledge among many people in Mondstadt, and it was all detailed in the book Lisa held.

However, the next moment, Lisa noticed something that most people hadn't seen.

Beneath the account of Rostam's life, there was a portrait of him, clearly added by the editor of the book.

Since Rostam lived over 500 years ago, and perhaps due to his low-key personality, there are very few portraits of him that have been preserved. As a result, most books and materials introducing Rostam do not include his image.

This was the first time Lisa had seen a portrait of Rostam, which made her take a second glance.

After looking at it for about ten seconds, Lisa vaguely felt that something was off.

But she couldn't quite pinpoint what exactly seemed wrong.

With this Speculation in her mind, Lisa furrowed her brows and carefully observed the portrait.

After about a minute of looking, it was as though a sudden realization flashed in her mind. Lisa's eyes widened in shock.

She stood up from the sofa in surprise.

"What's wrong?" Seeing Lisa's reaction, Jean asked in confusion.

"Jean, let me show you something." Lisa quickly walked over to Jean's side and handed her the book.

"What is it?" Jean took the book in her hands. "Isn't this the information about the Young Wolf, Rostam? I've seen this before."

"Take another look, focus on this part." Lisa pointed to the portrait at the bottom of the page.

Jean was a bit puzzled, but still did as Lisa suggested.

Time passed second by second, and Jean carefully examined the portrait of Rostam in the book. Suddenly, she understood.

Like Lisa just now, Jean also widened her eyes, her expression filled with shock.

"Why... does Rostam's portrait look so much like Yu Xie? I never noticed this before..."

"Could it just be a coincidence?" Lisa suggested.

"It's possible. Rostam's portrait has hardly survived to this day, so it might not actually be Rostam himself in the picture. It could be that the artist, based on the editor's needs, created an imagined version of Rostam, and it just so happens to resemble Yu Xie..." Jean's tone still held a lingering shock.

"But... what if it's true?" Lisa said slowly. "Yu Xie lost his memories and came to Mondstadt again. Could it be that his previous visit wasn't his first time here?"

"This..." Jean didn't know how to continue the conversation. It was truly shocking.

But the fact that Yu Xie had indeed returned to Mondstadt was undeniable, so Lisa's speculation couldn't be dismissed entirely.

Could it be... that Yu Xie was once the "Young Wolf" Rostam, the founder of Knights of Favonius swordsmanship, and the vice-captain of the Knights of Favonius?

If that's the case, Yu Xie's seniority would far surpass theirs, and he could certainly be described as a "legend"!

"Lisa, I think we need to see Yu Xie again," Jean said slowly after a long pause.

"I think we should go together," Lisa replied.

...

After leaving the Knights' headquarters, Yu Xie and Ei found that it was still early. The two of them walked out of the city gates and into the outskirts of Mondstadt.

The breeze from the countryside greeted them, refreshing and pleasant.

The wind and the nation of freedom—here, the wind seemed even gentler and freer.

The two of them arrived at the outskirts of Windrise, where they could already see the towering tree—the symbol of Mondstadt's hero.

This could be considered one of Mondstadt's famous landmarks. The towering tree has stood here for centuries, enduring the wind and rain, the cycles of heat and cold, remaining as lush and thriving as ever.

Standing under the tree, Ei looked up and surveyed it, then softly said:

"The symbol of Mondstadt's hero... this reminds me of Inazuma's Sacred Cherry Blossom tree."

"The Sacred Cherry Blossom tree was left by me back then, while this towering tree of Mondstadt is said to have been left by the founder of the Knights of Favonius—Vennessa," Yu Xie said with some emotion. "From a small sapling to this towering tree amidst the thousand winds of Mondstadt, it's truly remarkable."

While feeling moved, they suddenly heard a familiar voice calling out.

The two of them turned toward the sound and saw that Jean and Lisa were heading toward them.
