The two Pokémon listened attentively to their trainers' commands, battling fiercely.
Faced with the formidable and dominant Mega Charizard X, Froslass struggled to hold its ground. Even with the weather conditions boosting its moves, Froslass was at a disadvantage, hindered further by Evan's strategic prowess. Unable to match the overwhelming power, it had no choice but to evade Charizard's relentless attacks.
Once Mega Evolved, Charizard's strength had reached a quasi-Elite level, surpassing Froslass in sheer power.
"Charizard, Flare Blitz!" Evan commanded.
'Rooaarrr!' Charizard bellowed as flames engulfed its body, transforming it into a blazing comet aimed directly at Froslass.
"Froslass, Substitute! Then use Hex!" Freya responded sharply.
Froslass shimmered momentarily, creating a decoy that absorbed Charizard's fiery assault. It reappeared nearby, dark energy amassing in its hands before launching a series of Hex attacks.
'Boom, boom, boom!' The attacks found their mark, dealing significant damage to Charizard.
'Roar!' Charizard growled, visibly pained.
Evan smirked. "Outrage."
As the word left his lips, an intense burst of energy emanated from Charizard, scattering the dust and smoke from the battlefield. Its eyes glowed crimson as it entered a berserk state, unleashing Flamethrowers with wild precision.
Freya and Froslass struggled to dodge, but Charizard quickly closed the gap. With a fierce swipe, its Dragon Claw struck Froslass, sending it flying across the battlefield. Before it could recover, Charizard followed with a Heat Crash, flames roaring as it descended.
"Protect!" Freya called urgently.
Froslass hastily erected a shimmering barrier, absorbing the brunt of the fiery impact. The resulting explosion shook the battlefield, leaving spectators in awe.
"What's going on?" one murmured, captivated by the intense clash.
The intensity of the battle inside the gym was unmistakable.
Hearing the commotion, curious visitors began to gather one after another. As they arrived, their eyes were drawn to Charizard X emerging dramatically from the dissipating smoke.
"Mega Evolution! So cool!" someone exclaimed.
The sight of the powerful Charizard X ignited admiration among the spectators.
"Tsk!" Freya muttered under her breath. "This is so difficult... but it's my turn now."
Finally, Freya exhaled deeply, her focus sharpening. She glanced at the battlefield, where her Froslass stood its ground despite its dire condition. The Pokémon was visibly exhausted, struggling to stay upright. But now, Charizard was reeling from its own uncontrollable Outrage, leaving it in a dazed and confused state.
Seeing this, a grin spread across Freya's face. She seized the moment to issue her final command with calm precision.
"End it, Freeze Ray!"
Freya was confident this would be the decisive blow. A single well-placed attack would be enough to take down the chaotic Charizard. The thought of finally defeating Evan filled her with pride and satisfaction.
But her confidence was premature.
"Monitor, aren't you celebrating a bit too early?" Evan said, his tone laced with amusement. "Have you forgotten something? My ability."
"What?!" Freya stammered, her grin fading.
"Charizard, give it a slap!" Evan called out.
As his command rang out, Evan's Psychic powers enveloped Charizard. Responding instinctively to its Trainer's influence, Charizard lifted its blazing palm and delivered a devastating strike to Froslass before it could launch Freeze Ray.
'Bang!'
The impact sent Froslass hurtling through the air, smashing hard against the gym wall. It collapsed to the ground, unable to battle any longer.
Freya's eyes widened in disbelief as her Pokémon fell.
"What?! You cheated!" she shouted angrily, her voice trembling with frustration. Her chest heaved as she glared at Evan, seething.
Evan smirked, casually shrugging off her accusation.
"Cheating? Not at all," he replied smugly. "During a match, Trainers are allowed to use special abilities to assist their Pokémon. It's completely within the rules."
"The competition rules clearly state it's legal for Psychics to use their abilities in battle," Evan continued. "If you had Psychic abilities, you could use them too."
Freya clenched her fists, her frustration only growing. She couldn't argue with the rules, but that didn't make the loss any easier to swallow.
Freya was visibly displeased as she glared at Evan. She knew the rules, of course, but that didn't make her loss any less frustrating.
After returning Froslass to its Poké Ball, Freya pulled out another Poké Ball. Noticing her intent to switch Pokémon, Evan quickly deactivated Charizard's Mega Evolution, returning the slightly weakened Charizard to its Poké Ball as well.
Evan's movements made it clear he was preparing to change Pokémon, which caused Freya to raise her eyebrows in curiosity. Nevertheless, she released her next Pokémon with determination.
"Go, Mismagius!" Freya called.
A graceful Mismagius materialized onto the field, and Evan's eyes lit up upon seeing it.
"That's a good one," he remarked, a faint smile playing on his lips. Mismagius fell squarely within his appreciation for well-designed Pokémon.
Freya crossed her arms impatiently. "Are you just going to admire it, or are you going to send out your Pokémon already?" she huffed.
Evan chuckled at her irritation and casually tossed his own Poké Ball into the air.
With a flash of white light, a Shiny Lurantis emerged onto the battlefield, its vibrant colors causing the spectators to gasp in awe.
Even Freya couldn't hide her surprise. "Another Shiny?!" she exclaimed, staring at the Pokémon in disbelief.
Her confusion quickly morphed into suspicion. "Evan, are you secretly a rich second-generation heir or something?"
Her imagination began to run wild as she pieced together a melodramatic backstory in her head. She envisioned Evan as the long-lost son of a powerful consortium, separated from his family at a young age due to some tragic circumstances. Upon graduating, his family found him and showered him with a trillion-dollar inheritance, allowing him to acquire rare Pokémon like the Shiny Lurantis standing before her.
Freya's dramatic monologue continued in her mind: This must be why he never accepted the standard Pokémon eggs issued by the school—he didn't need them. And now, he's no longer hiding his true identity, showing off his incredible wealth and resources.
She imagined Evan with a smug expression, his mouth twisting into a victorious smirk.
"Snort! You must be plotting something ridiculous," Evan interjected, his voice breaking her thoughts.
Freya blinked in surprise. "What?!"
"There's definitely something weird going on in your head, Monitor," Evan added, narrowing his eyes slightly. His sensitivity to emotions, honed through his abilities, allowed him to pick up on her irritation and suspicion.
Freya crossed her arms again, turning her gaze away. "Hmph! You're imagining things," she muttered, trying to brush off the awkwardness.
