The descent into Mementos was silent this time.
Gone were the usual jokes and casual swagger. The Phantom Thieves stood at the threshold of a newly revealed path—an opalescent gate flickering like a tear in reality. Runes shimmered on its surface, echoing ancient languages none of them recognized.
Veluria's voice drifted into their minds like perfume over fire."To retrieve the third shard, you must walk the halls of your own reflection. The Mirror Sovereign awaits."
Ren nodded, taking the first step forward.
Mementos – Fragment Layer 3: The Shattered Theater
The team emerged into a world unlike any they'd seen.
A massive abandoned opera house, its velvet curtains floating in zero gravity. Staircases that looped endlessly. Crystal chandeliers twisted into blooming glass flowers. Dozens—hundreds—of mirrors covered the walls, and in every one, their reflections moved just a moment out of sync.
Ann swallowed. "Okay. Creepy."
Ryuji frowned. "Why do I feel like we're being watched by… ourselves?"
Makoto scanned the map. "This area's structure is unstable. It shifts every time someone doubts themselves."
Futaba's voice cut in from the Navigator screen. "I'm picking up resonance signatures tied to emotion. Whatever's here… it's feeding on it."
Ren stepped ahead, hand brushing a mirror. For a second, his reflection smiled too widely. And then shattered into silver dust.
The Challenge – Fragments of Self
A voice echoed through the opera hall, sharp and androgynous:"If you wear a mask, thief—then show me who hides beneath it."
Suddenly, the team was separated.
Each Phantom Thief was pulled into a solo illusion—rooms styled from their memories. Childhood bedrooms. School rooftops. Art studios. Clinics. Places both painful and beautiful.
Trial Format:To move forward, each member must face a twisted mirror-self—the embodiment of their greatest fear or suppressed desire.
Ren found himself in a black velvet room with only one mirror. His reflection stepped forward—and looked nothing like him. It wore no mask. No clothes. Just raw vulnerability, and eyes full of everything Ren had ever tried to hide.
His reflection spoke:"Do you even know who you are, or are you just who they need you to be?"
Elsewhere – Takemi's Trial
Takemi stood before an altar of syringes and steel. Her Persona, Noctis Vitae, hovered nearby—its wings made of operating scalpels.
A version of herself appeared on the opposite side. Clinical. Cold. In love with power."You joined them to feel needed. But when this ends—will they still choose you?"
Takemi clenched her fists, breath sharp. "I didn't come this far just to be someone's shadow."
She summoned Noctis Vitae and shattered the mirror with a lance of dark flame.
Group Reunion – Broken, but Stronger
One by one, the Thieves returned—tired, shaken, but glowing with the light of overcoming something deep and personal.
Ren, last to return, found the others waiting near the main stage.
Veluria's voice returned:"You have passed through the Mirror Sovereign's domain… but not without cost."
The final trial loomed—a figure descending from the opera's highest balcony, cloaked in fractured light and shadow.
The Mirror Sovereign—a being of echoing voices, each line of its body reflecting one of the Phantom Thieves. Not an enemy to destroy, but a collective puzzle of identity to solve.
