The war might have been over, but Cliff felt like there was still so much to be done. Sitting on the rampart of the Orleth fortress, the wind brushing against his face, he sighed, contemplating the future with a lingering melancholy.
"It's in moments like these that I think about my grandparents."
He wished he could tell them everything was fine, that they no longer needed to worry. He wanted to show them what he had become, to see that longed-for pride on their faces. Not that he wished to turn back time... but if there was a path back to his past, he would have taken it just to ease their hearts.
Alas, reality had caught up with him before his musings could drift too far.
A moment later, he saw the sun dip behind the mountains with almost human haste. "Hah, even the sun is rushing back to its home," he murmured, a smile on his lips as his amber eyes scanned the horizon.
"Well... I should head back too."
