After making it back to my home. After getting inside I feel a bit uncomfortable. This is mainly because of how warm it is in my home compared to the outside. These clothes of mine certainly aren't helping in that regard. Since I don't want to sacrifice the comfort of my clothes, I come up with a different idea.
I place the wolf pelts down before spreading two of them out in my sleeping area. I place the other one with the other hides. I close my eyes and concentrate for a bit. Within the span of a couple seconds the temperature in my home drops a couple degrees. Soon snow begins to form in certain spots around the place. After about a minute I open my eyes and nod to myself.
Doing this didn't take a lot out of me. It took so long because I'm using my powers in a wider area. Also because I was targeting specific areas in the area. I didn't really know where I wanted to place the snow so I just placed it in random spots. Of course I put a generous amount over the furs and hides I sleep on. I lay down on the snow covered furs and let out a content sigh.
'Honestly, living out here is like a vacation. Other than the fact I need to hunt often, the risk of being attacked in my sleep, and all the hard work I need to do it's easy. While I can just stay here all my life and take it easy, I won't. Something is urging me to continue on.
With that said my body temperature was like 830 before. Now my body is 790. My arms are even colder at 77.30. Of course my body temperature seems to decrease by the day. It only accelerated after I had that moment of realization a little while ago. Maybe the closer I get to or the more I understand the Winter Sprites the colder my body gets. For whatever reason.
Assuming that's true at some point my body will be so cold any water within 5 feet of me will freeze instantly. Of course my body will have to be extraordinarily cold. Not sure how I will manage to clean myself if my body is that cold, but I'm sure I'll manage somehow.
I stretch a bit before yawning. I relax in my bed as I stop thinking about weird things. Soon enough I fall asleep. I don't have any dreams this time as I wake up with a groan. I have a lot planned for next week. And so a week passes. Why does a week pass so quickly? I'm not entirely sure, but I have a feeling it's because things seem a bit slow. Not that it really matters because I need to make sure I have everything I need for this fight.
'Herbs check, spear check, sharp bones made for throwing check, armor check, mental readiness….. Almost there. I am feeling a little nervous, but it should go away soon after the fight starts. Now the only real problem is finding the bear. It ate roughly 3 days ago. It should be out on the hunt. If it isn't, it should be home. Or mating somewhere.'
Seeing I have everything I need I crawl out of my home. I look around before heading north. I travel around for a couple hours looking for tracks, or other things that will help me find the bear. The first place I checked was its home. Unfortunately it wasn't there. Soon enough I end up finding the bear. It's currently rubbing its back on a tree.
'Marking its territory? Well that is something animals do rather often. Perhaps I should do the same. Not that I really have any way to do that. I'll think about it later if it comes up. For now I have a bear to fight.'
I want to start off strong against the bear, but since I don't want to kill it I plan on immobilizing it a bit. Giving it serious injuries can be bad since another bear may come and beat it. So my plan is to blind one eye, immobilize a leg or two, and give a couple dozen scraps. So I decide to go for one of the legs first.
With that in mind I form a long and sharp ice spike. The ice spike is around half a foot long and 3 inches wide with a sharp tip. As the bear falls back down onto all fours I fire the ice spike. It flies through the air, and the bear turns its head at the sound. As the ice spike penetrated into its thigh, it let out a low growl.
It looks directly at me with a glare. It growls loudly before running at me. Despite the fact the ice spike is embedded a couple inches into its body, it doesn't seem to notice it. This causes me to frown as I quickly throw a bone knife while backing up a bit. The bear closes its eyes while turning its head. The ice knife hits its snout, but barely does anything as it falls straight into the snow.
'Well this isn't going very well. Bears are known for their tough hide. Even with my spear it's going to be hard to do any meaningful damage. Since I'm a lot smaller I should have some leeway in a direct confrontation. That only goes so far though.'
I don't have much time to think as the bear comes within 3 meters of me. Not wanting to directly confront it yet I run around some trees to prevent the bear from getting much closer. My new plan is to exhaust it a bit before going in. About a minute into this the bear stops chasing me. Not because it's tired, but because it realizes what I'm doing.
I can see it limping a bit due to the ice spike in its side, but that's not enough to do anything. After a couple seconds of thinking I slowly approach the bear with my spear in hand. The bear doesn't wait long before it starts running at me.
