Chapter 74 - Chapter 74 - One year later 01.

[Chapter Size: 2400 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Westeros.

...

...

"What are we doing here, Jon?" Lucis asked as she approached Jon, looking curiously at the area ahead. They were in the middle of one of the southernmost forests beyond the Wall, near a small stream, while the dragonborn was examining tracks on the ground and in the snow-covered areas.

"There's a pack here, and of giant wolves… Could it be them?" Jon remarked, observing the marks on the ground.

Giant wolves were extremely rare to encounter, and Jon had personally come across only one pack aside from his own wolf when he was heading toward the Wall. But thanks to Winter, they all fled when he had hoped to capture them as his own pack.

He had decided to hunt them down again and complete what he had left unfinished a year ago.

"Giant wolves? Is that what you're after?" Lucis asked cautiously. She had decided to join him on the journey south when he mentioned he was leaving, while Val and Ygritte stayed to look after Daenerys, even though they had wanted to come as well.

"Exactly. I didn't tell you, but I had a brief encounter with this pack when I left the camp. Now I hope to finally find them…" Jon said, surveying the area before starting to walk again.

"Isn't this dangerous, Jon?" Lucis couldn't help but ask, a hint of concern in her voice.

"Don't worry about it… I can protect you. Just stay close to me; after all, I want to capture them once and for all," Jon said as he began following the tracks.

"My father… he was killed by three giant wolves…" Lucis admitted. Clearly, she hadn't known he was after these creatures, likely because he had withheld that information. Had she known, she wouldn't have come.

"Really? Then I owe you an apology for this…" Jon murmured, realizing how delicate the matter might be for his spearwife. "Just stay close to me. They're not far from here. After all, there isn't much food in the north, forcing the giant wolves and other animals to approach the Wall or even cross it," Jon explained as they continued forward.

After some time trekking through the forest, a red blur darted past them, startling them instantly. Before Lucis could scream, Jon grabbed her, ensuring any sound was muffled.

"Silence! It's watching us, but it hasn't identified us yet," Jon murmured, observing the giant wolf as they hid behind bushes. He could see it sniffing the air, searching for the strange scent it had detected. The wolf was enormous, standing about one and a half meters tall.

Taking advantage of the wolf being alone, Jon scanned the surroundings with his magical eyes before approaching quickly. He exclaimed a few words, using a Thu'um, firm and authoritative: "KAAN… DREM!" These were two words from the Kyne's Peace shout.

It worked. The wolf, caught by surprise, had no time to react. Its eyes began to glow, subdued by the Dragonborn's powerful word, which was taming it.

"There. It won't attack us anymore… This wolf is alone and doesn't seem to have been expelled, which means the pack is nearby," Jon said, turning to Lucis.

She, still hesitant, ultimately trusted Jon and approached him. Though Lucis wasn't as fearless as Ygritte, she trusted Jon without question.

Jon placed his hand on the wolf's head, now entirely submissive. "It's a female," he murmured, examining the animal. "Can you take us to your pack, girl?" he asked her.

The wolf, silent, turned and began walking. Jon turned to Lucis and gave a slight nod. "Let's go," he said, and she followed him with some caution.

They entered a rockier area near where they had found the wolf, a small valley with a waterfall cascading down from the upper terrain. Near a small pool formed by the falling water, there was a cave. Outside its entrance, some wolves sat and lay about, while others drank from the pool. The sight made Jon smile—it was a complete pack of giant wolves in their natural habitat.

"Come on, stay behind me. You lead the way, girl," Jon said to Lucis as he followed closely, the red she-wolf moving ahead of him.

As they advanced, the other wolves quickly lifted their heads, their attention snapping toward Jon. All of them began to growl, baring their teeth. A large gray wolf, bigger than the rest, emerged from the cave and locked eyes with Jon. Its gaze burned with anger and caution, as if it remembered him vividly.

"Jon, are we going to be okay?" Lucis murmured nervously from behind, her expression full of concern.

"Don't worry about this. I'll handle them," Jon responded firmly, taking a few steps forward. Passing the red wolf, he kept his eyes locked on the others, his demeanor calm and fearless. He knelt on one knee, bringing himself to their eye level, and focused intently.

Suddenly, Jon's eyes turned white, and the wolves began to sense their minds being invaded.

The first to be affected was the gray leader, the wolf Jon had previously bonded with during their initial encounter. The leader blinked, its eyes turning white for a moment before returning to normal. It let out a deep howl, and the rest of the pack began reacting in the same way. One by one, the wolves' eyes turned white briefly before reverting, signaling their submission. In an instant, Jon had bonded with the entire pack.

This was the current extent of the Dragonborn's warg abilities. After a year of training, Jon had honed the latent skills in his bloodline, enabling him to dominate animals effortlessly with just a glance.

'If I'd had this in Skyrim… my journey would have been much easier, and all the mages and druids would have been desperate to study me…' Jon thought to himself, feeling his mind expand to connect with all the animals around him.

When his eyes returned to their normal color, a smile spread across his face. "There's no need to worry about them anymore, Lucis. They're our allies now," Jon declared calmly.

Lucis was stunned, unable to comprehend what she had just witnessed. Jon then turned his gaze to the red she-wolf, whose eyes also turned white before returning to normal. A bond between her and Jon was established instantly, just like with the rest of the pack.

"How can you do this?" Lucis murmured, still in disbelief.

No ordinary warg could act like this, but Jon was far more than an ordinary warg. He had just bonded with over 18 giant wolves in a single moment.

"You're still surprised by this? I mastered this skill in just a year. Now, let's see if there are any pups here. We'll take them all back to the camp," Jon said as he began walking toward the cave.

Lucis hurried to his side, glancing cautiously at the massive wolves. The enormous creatures stood still, watching them pass. As they entered the cave, they found two litters of wolf pups.

"There are too many to carry, Jon," Lucis murmured, unsure of how they could transport so many pups. There were at least 12 or 13, scattered in two different areas.

"Well, don't worry about that," Jon replied, pulling out a small ox cart from a dimensional space—one he had taken from the south. "I'll use the wolves to pull it back."

He continued preparing the cart, attaching some of the larger wolves to it and placing all the pups inside for transport. Once everything was ready, they began their return journey.

Three days later, they caught sight of the camp. Jon and Lucis arrived accompanied by the wolves. The place had changed significantly since Jon had taken leadership. A year had passed, but not everyone had accepted him. Many tribes had left, refusing to follow a sorcerer, a southerner, or what they considered worse than the White Walkers. Jon hadn't cared or tried to stop them.

Now, the camp was a bustling place. Everyone worked tirelessly, and the sharp sound of hammers echoed through the forges. Jon had taught dozens of Free Folk men to craft simple weapons. With the discovery of four iron mines near the camp, he organized teams to extract ore and used giants to transport it back to the camp. After stealing a forge from Wintertown, they began producing additional forges, swords, shields, and other essential items. While creating armor remained a challenge, the production of basic weapons for an army significantly improved their chances in the south. Progress had been slow, taking months, but the results after just one year were remarkable, with more and more Free Folk armed with decent weapons.

As people bustled back and forth, Jon entered the camp. He was greeted by a few sentinels who had accompanied him, but the sight that followed quickly drew stunned looks: a pack of giant wolves. The scene was awe-inspiring. Many stared at him with admiration and disbelief. Jon already had a wolf that was larger than any dog in the camp, but it was still young and not nearly as massive as these wolves.

"Hey, Jon! Is that what you went south to do? Capture an entire pack of wolves?" someone exclaimed, approaching with curiosity. "Don't tell me you've become their warg!"

By coincidence, it was Tormund, who was near the entrance and overheard the exclamations about the King-Beyond-the-Wall's arrival.

"You could say that," Jon replied calmly.

"Six is going to die of envy, for sure. You're already the most powerful warg in the camp now, with this pack!" a man commented with a booming laugh.

Jon held that title not just because of his dragon but also because he had bonded with over ten animals over the past year. Now, with 18 giant wolves under his command, Jon had cemented himself as a unique and formidable figure.

"Anyway, I'm heading to my tent. Inform the leaders we'll have a meeting tonight. I want to review the camp's status and share some news. I'm thinking of heading south," Jon said as he walked. Tormund, though surprised, nodded, and Jon entered the camp, the giant wolves following closely behind, drawing stares from everyone.

"Jon! Brother, you're back!" Lafy ran up to him at that moment, holding an iron shield and a sword. "Can we go train?" he asked before noticing the giant wolves, his mouth falling open in astonishment.

"The wolves are with me, boy, and I don't have time for that now. We'll talk tomorrow," Jon replied. Lafy, visibly disappointed, stepped aside as his sister approached to help move him out of the wolves' path.

Jon entered his tent and found Daenerys seated beside a Child of the Forest, who was teaching her the Old Tongue.

"Jon!" Daenerys stood as soon as she saw him. "You're back." She smiled warmly.

"Yes, and I was thinking about some things on the way here," Jon replied, eager to discuss his though

ts with his aunt.

"I'll leave you two alone," the Child of the Forest said, departing discreetly.

Daenerys arranged a place for Jon to sit. He sighed, settling into the seat as he observed her.

"Before we march south, I want to take a closer look at the situation in King's Landing," he murmured.

"You're talking about those letters?" Daenerys asked cautiously.

Jon had acquired several letters from the south over the past year, thanks to the raven he had raised from a nest to train his powers. After a year of care and training, the bird had grown into a powerful aerial predator.

The raven frequently brought information and letters to Jon, killing other messenger ravens and stealing their scrolls, some taking weeks to arrive. As a result, Jon already knew about several situations in Westeros. King's Landing, in particular, was in a troubling state, along with the news of Viserys's fate. Jon was disappointed with the situation regarding his uncle. It seemed Viserys might die before they had a second chance to meet, and Jon refused to let that happen without being there.

"You're going to King's Landing?" Daenerys asked, already aware of the things Jon had shared with her. Her voice carried a note of concern.

"Yes. It's not time yet for us to invade the south, but I want to take one last look at the city," he replied calmly.

"But isn't it dangerous?" she asked, her worry subtly evident.

Jon raised an eyebrow and smirked slightly. "Do you think I'd meet the same fate as your brother? You know I've been in far worse situations. When I raided that khalasar to rescue you, a city in the south will be nothing for me," Jon said with confidence.

Daenerys gave a small smile, though her concern lingered faintly. "Alright. I believe you'll manage without any issues, then," she said finally.

"In any case, there's a meeting tonight with the leaders to review the camp's progress. I think I'll take a bath," Jon remarked, glancing at the luxurious bathtub in the tent.

"Let me help you," Daenerys offered with a barely perceptible shyness.

Jon nodded. "Alright."

It wasn't the first time Daenerys had bathed Jon. He never asked her to, but she always volunteered. Since Jon had rescued her from Essos, she had dedicated herself to being useful, finding ways to assist him however she could. Despite this, Jon often ignored the lingering looks she gave him, choosing to focus on other responsibilities. After all, Jon didn't see her in a romantic light—but the same couldn't be said for her feelings toward him.
