"Steady," Shay's voice broke through the disorientation in my head. "Take deep breaths."
I didn't even realize I wasn't able to inhale properly.
We were back in the room, everything as it had been when I sat down. Yet, somehow, it felt less real than what I'd experienced. Breathing air was more suffocating than being in the Void. The stark difference between being my soul and my body was disorienting. I felt too heavy, awkward, and like I didn't belong in my own flesh.
"You need to take deep breaths," Shay ordered again, his voice gentler than I expected. "The first time is jarring. You'll get used to it as you have more experience."
"What just happened?" The words tasted off. I understood them, but they didn't sound like they should.
