In a flash, she slightly opened her mouth, wordless.
Her eyes sparkled intermittently, now bright, now dim, like a distant island's light, hazy through the mist.
"I don't remember if it's 53 days or 63 days; to me, it's just a number. As for you, to me, you are just a man," Ann Nolan said, her lips curved into an indifferent smile. "I don't understand why you're dragging this out. You clearly know that a woman's youth and energy are limited—are you trying to wear me down into an old woman?"
"Ann... I don't want the Santos Family anymore."
"Hmm?" Ann was even more taken aback, her eyes rippling with confusion as she looked at him. "You don't want it anymore? Why not? I have been helping you to try and secure it, just needs a bit more time. The Santos Family... wasn't your initial reason for marrying me to please Grandfather and secure the Santos Family? Now you don't want it, how fortunate."
Ann laughed.
