You are not born a hero, you are not born a villain, you are born with the choice to choose which side you want to take and in a world dominated by heroes and villains, it is an important decision. Earth is filled with different avenues for power. Semblances and Quirks are the main two. But there are some secret ones such as Magic. But very few people know it. In this world of heroes and villains there is always those that become something greater, or well, plan to. Soren Malcolm grew up surrounded by Pro Heroes and Huntsmen and at first, he wanted to become just like them. But as he got older, he saw the harsh truth.
The so-called Pro Heroes mostly were out for the fame and glory and the Huntsmen and Huntresses were selfish animals. At first, he refused to accept this reality but when his home village was torched by Grimm, he witnessed how the Huntsmen refused to protect the village due to not receiving proper payment. Determined to not let this get him down, he set off for the City of Pax, the capital of the world and home to Union Academy.
Soren would enroll into Union Academy with hopes of becoming a Pro Hero but would quickly learn that even Pro Heroes are flawed and how these flaws effect the world. It disgusted Soren immensely. These people, both Pro Heroes and Huntsmen were supposed to be guardians, champions of peace and honorable warriors. But here they are. More worried about Fame, Glory, and Money. Soren held out for hope that somehow someway things would change. But it never happened.
His fellow classmates also were consumed by these flaws. His eyes were then opened to how flawed the world was, yet Union Academy and others continue to act like the world is perfect. They keep saying that Pro Heroes and Huntsmen are the best option for the world, that they're perfect. This false perfection disgusted Soren as he wanted to see a world with true perfection. A world cured of its flaws and guided to a proper state of perfection.
Soren would make the decision to leave Union Academy, and he now believed that becoming a Pro Hero wasn't the right way to better the world. He sought a different path. Not one by becoming a "Hero" but one by becoming else, something different. So, there he was, in his dorm room packing essential items in preparation for his departure, he had sent a note to the headmasters about his decision to leave Union Academy. But as he was packing his stuff, he hears the door to the dorm open up and his friend Winter Schnee enters the room. She sees him packing up and was confused.
"Soren, what are you doing?" Winter asked.
"I'm leaving." Soren said.
"Leaving?" Winter asked, still confused.
"Union Academy isn't what I thought it was, so I'm leaving the Academy." Soren answered.
"What!?" Winter said in shock. "But you worked so hard to get here!"
"I know what I did to get here, but I'm regretting my decision." Soren said as he stopped packing and turned to his friend.
"Why?" Winter asked.
"Look around you. This world, this academy is flawed." Soren said. "It's filled with those who seek only to enhance themselves and not the world. They're selfish. I cannot allow myself to work alongside such people who abuse their power."
"But we can change the system from within, Soren." Winter pleaded.
"This System is beyond change." Soren said. "If real change is to happen, the system needs to be dismantled and rebuilt."
Winter went to speak, to try and counter his argument to get him to stay at Union Academy.
"Stop." Soren said sternly. "Whatever you do, it won't stop me from what I'm going to do."
Winter did as told as she couldn't figure out a way to convince him otherwise. She actually felt powerless, and she hated it. A knock on the door was heard causing the two to look at the door.
"Come in." Soren said, welcoming in whoever was knocking on that door.
The door opens and in walks Ozpin, one of the headmasters of Union Academy.
"I hope I'm not interrupting anything important." Ozpin said.
"No, I was just finishing packing up." Soren said.
"So, you are serious about leaving this Academy." Ozpin said. "May I know why?"
"You wouldn't understand, no one would." Soren admits. "Everyone is lost in an illusioned state of society."
Ozpin said nothing and just listened.
"I will admit, our world isn't perfect." Ozpin said with honesty. "But that's why Huntsmen and Pro Heroes are here. To make the world a better place."
Soren fought to urge to scoff at that claim. All Pro Heroes and Huntsmen want to do is better themselves not the world. It's almost laughable that Ozpin says these things, but Soren isn't surprised. Ozpin is one of the headmasters of Union Academy, the center for Pro Heroes and Huntsmen. The center of the flawed as Soren puts it. Nothing the headmaster says will convince him to stay; he's made up his mind. If being a "Hero" can't guide the world to perfection, then he'll have to be the "Villain." all Soren did in response to Ozpin's words was roll his eyes.
"You're not talking me out of this." Soren said before turning to Winter. "Neither are you."
Winter then looked to Ozpin, almost hoping he could say something to convince Soren otherwise.
"You are one of our best students." Ozpin said. "You have a promising future, please do not throw it away."
Winter hopes that did it, she hoped that it was enough to convince Soren to stay. All Soren does is sigh in an irritated fashion.
"Like I said, I've made up my mind." Soren. "I'm leaving."
Ozpin sighs, he really hoped he could convince Soren otherwise.
"Very well." Ozpin said. "I wish you good travels."
With that, Ozpin leaves the room. Only Winter and Soren remained. Winter was stunned that Ozpin couldn't convince Soren to stay. Soren returns to packing his essentials while Winter watched, helpless to stop him. Once he finished, Soren went towards the door. He opened the door but stopped.
"Goodbye, Winter." Soren said.
With that, he leaves the room.
[Much Later]
Soren walked through the streets of Pax City, the Capital of the world and the home of Union Academy. Pax was constructed decades ago after the world stood together as one when the United Earth Government formed. The UEG replaced the United Nations and helped to create a more stable peace across the globe. But in the year 2130, peace is just a mask worn by the global community. There's always going to be chaos. Especially with Grimm, Villains and more running around. When he finally gets home, he heads inside and notices it's quiet. His family moved to the City of Pax shortly after he enrolled into Union Academy. He puts his stuff in his room before he walks into the living room. He sees a note on the table and picks it up.
Note: "Son, your father and I must head out of the city for a while for business. We also caught word of your decision to leave Union Academy; just know we will always stand by your decisions."
Soren sighs and puts the note down. His parents are always out of town for business; he barely remembers the last time they spent time together. He heads back up to his room and begins to unpack his things until he stumbled upon a drawing of his. It was of a prototype hero costume design. It was Inspired by Plague Doctors. He went through a weird phase back then. But he then got an idea, he won't need his other hero costume because he isn't going to become a hero again. He then got an idea, if he's going to become something else. He'll need a new identity, a new costume, a new name. He sets the drawing on his desk as a smirk found its way onto his face. Today, Soren Malcolm died, and the PLAGUE DOCTOR was born.
