Chapter 24 - He Knew I’d Come

After the facials, it was time for the full-body massage. They both lay down as the therapists worked on them, easing their tension. An hour later, they were done.

"This feels amazing. I feel so relaxed now," Luna sighed.

"You're right," Matteo agreed. "This should've been the first place we came to today."

Despite the relaxation, Matteo's mind was elsewhere. He wondered if Mario was still inside the spa. Just then, his phone vibrated—his guards had arrived. He felt relieved knowing they were close.

As he was about to stand up, Matteo caught sight of Mario again. He turned away, acting as if he hadn't seen him. Quickly, he whispered to Luna, "We're done with the massage. Go ahead and get dressed while I pay."

"Pay first, then change," Luna said, raising an eyebrow.

Matteo turned to the spa staff. "Please close the door."

The therapist, realizing their mistake, apologized and shut the door. Matteo wanted to keep Mario from seeing him any further.

They both went to the changing room, putting on their normal clothes. Luna's makeup had completely worn off, but to Matteo, she looked even more beautiful without it. He buttoned up his shirt while Luna slipped into her dress and high heels. She took out a small powder compact from her purse and lightly dabbed some on her face before they stepped out.

Matteo wore a black suit. Once they were both dressed, they stepped out together at the same time and looked at each other.

Matteo immediately said, looking straight at Luna with a smile, "You just look so sweet. Since my wife has removed her makeup, it's been a while since we went out together."

"Yes, it really has been a while," Luna replied.

Matteo kept thinking about Mario. The only reason he was slightly worried was that he didn't want Mario to realize his wife was with him. He was trying to avoid any confrontation. But to his shock, Mario was still there—waiting.

Matteo didn't know if this was an ambush or if Mario was trying to expose him as a mafia member in front of his wife. He thought the best move was to call some of his guards inside. He instructed them to come into the spa dressed as regular customers, blending in as they read newspapers and watched Mario discreetly.

Mario had come there to threaten Matteo. When he finally spotted Matteo with Luna, he smirked.

"Huh? Is that Matteo's wife? A mafia boss enjoying life like a normal man? No, no, no…"

As he started walking toward them, one of Matteo's bodyguards stepped in, pressing a gun against Mario's back.

"If you move any closer, I'll shoot you," the bodyguard said.

"What do you mean by that? You're going to shoot me? I'm just walking. I'm not doing anything," Mario replied.

"I know what you're planning, so don't try it. If you make a single move, I'll shoot you. I've received my orders, and I won't hesitate," the bodyguard warned.

Mario chuckled. "You're getting cocky. Do you even know who I am? I'm the head of the Gambino family. We have money, power—everything. You'll regret this. I'm giving you one last chance to back down."

"You know I'm from the Gambino family, right? You really think you can touch me? Why are you pointing a gun at my back, threatening me?"

Mario clapped his hands slowly, and before Matteo's bodyguard realized it, Mario's men had positioned themselves in the room. One of them now had a gun aimed at Matteo's bodyguard from behind.

The tables had turned.

Matteo's bodyguard was shocked. "When did you do this?" he asked.

"Last night," Mario replied. "After I left the casino, one of my men stayed behind, watching your every move. He overheard Matteo's phone call with his wife. I knew you'd be here today, and I came prepared."

It looked like I was right. I knew I couldn't let my guard down. That's why I brought armed men with me when I came here. I was sure of it—Matteo is very smart, and he also brought armed men. The first thing he did after the massage was attack me.

"So, what did he tell you to do? Did Matteo order you to put the gun on me?" Mario asked Matteo's bodyguard.

The bodyguard remained silent for a moment before replying, "He didn't tell us to attack you. He just told us to come in and watch you closely."

"Watch me closely? What do you mean?!" Mario snapped. "You're spying on me, you piece of shit. You're so fucking annoying. What am I going to do with you guys?"

Mario sighed. "But for now, I don't have time to chat. Let's go check on Matteo. I saw him just now, but I don't know where he is now."

Mario scanned the spa, checking every corner. Then, as he glanced outside, he saw the Ferrari Matteo had arrived in speeding away. His face twisted in frustration.

"Shit! They already left," he muttered.

He ordered the bodyguard to follow him, but Matteo's bodyguard refused to move. Without hesitation, Mario pulled out his gun and shot the man in the leg.

The loud gunshot sent panic through the spa. People screamed. Matteo's men, who were still inside, immediately reacted. They stood up, guns pointed at Mario.

Mario laughed. "If you try to shoot, I'll kill him. He's your friend, right? So don't make a mistake. If you even flinch, he dies."

The wounded bodyguard groaned in pain as blood poured from his leg.

"You know," Mario continued, "his life doesn't have any value to me anyway."

More chaos erupted as people ran in fear. The spa owner quickly called the police. Meanwhile, Mario's men also drew their guns, aiming at Matteo's men. Slowly, they backed out of the spa, making their way outside.

By the time they reached the car, they grabbed Matteo's injured bodyguard and forced him into the trunk.

"Put him in the back. He's going to pay for ruining my plan," Mario ordered.

Sitting in the car, his anger boiled over.

"Ah, this is so fucking annoying! That damn bodyguard ruined everything. Everything I worked for! Now, I won't get to Matteo," Mario growled.

Then, turning to his men, he barked, "Bring him out of the trunk and tie him to a chair!"

His voice echoed with fury as he prepared to make the man suffer.
