Chapter 7 - He Wants Her For The Throne

JAYDEN

"What's the use of this meeting and why couldn't it wait until morning?" I fumbled as soon as I barged into our private quarters and slammed the door shut behind me.

There, I located an empty chair and lowered myself on it. I was in my mother's chambers after we had arrived back from the cabin when the head maid came to inform me that Liam had called for an important meeting and wanted to speak to all of us.

I didn't want to leave my mother who has been bedridden for days now but she has insisted that I attend. I hated that Liam always tried to exercise his rights by telling me what to do.

I don't like being told what to do. He might be the first Alpha prince by age but it doesn't necessarily mean that he could order me around. It also doesn't mean that he was older than all of us combined. He was first and that's his only advantage.

"Because we don't have until morning." Came Liam's response. "We have to figure out what to do with Sophia as soon as possible and come to an agreement together."

"We?" I arched my brow at Liam with a mocking scoff. "I never asked to be a part of this problem. We had a shot at doing what's right and that was many hours ago but you insisted that we let her be so this is all on you Liam. Don't put the burden of that perverted woman on me."

"She's our mate Jayden." Liam reminded me as if I had forgotten. "She's just not any woman. How can you just suggest something as cruel as killing her off? Doesn't the prophecy or the bond mean anything to you?"

I rolled my eyes while Noah looked back from both of us as we argued. He was not the type to involve himself in these type of drama.

"I can't believe that I had given up a night at the tavern where i was supposed to be tangled up in the sheets with a courtesan for this." Noah breathed out tiredly, one hand resting on his chin but we ignored his outburst.

"Killing her doesn't mean anything to me and that's why we have to put an end to her now that we have the chance. Haven't you thought about the possibility of her fooling us?" I asked.

"She was in our bathing house. That place is heavily guarded so how on earth did she make it inside without being caught if she didn't have a plan to do something to us?"

"Did you see that girl? Does she look like someone who could hurt us? She was just as confused as we were."

"They all pretend to be confused when they're apprehended and that's the whole point!" I hit my fist on the chair in anger. "And have you even thought of the possibility of her being in a disguise? Do you think that she'd outrightly come clean and tell us that she's an assassin or someone with ill intent?"

"Unbelievable." Noah muttered under his breath. He pushed his head backwards and threw his legs on the table in front of him, tiredly.

"Don't tell me that you bought that crap she spilled back there." I countered in disagreement. "She committed treason. If it were any other woman in her place, we wouldn't even be having this argument right now. You would've ripped her to shreds."

"And that's because she's not just any woman. What part of that statement don't you understand. We share a bond with her." Liam pressed on.

"Aren't you both overreacting?" Noah blurted out and we both whipped our heads towards him at the exact same time. "I'm just saying that she probably doesn't even want anything to do with us so why should we care? She wasn't even thrilled at the idea of being our mates."

"At least your brother is more sensible than you are in this matter." I clicked my tongue mockingly. "It's settled then. We'll get rid of her first thing tomorrow morning and move on from this mess like it never happened. We don't know her and there's no point trying to form a connection."

"Then how about we bring her here to the Palace to live with us." Liam suggested and I bit down on my lower lip to suppress my anger. How does he keep on coming up with more suggestions that wasn't even favourable to me?

"She clearly doesn't remember anything when i spoke to her." He went on. "What if she's really saying the truth? What if she's lost or worse? Instead of killing her, we can bring her here to understand her more and figure out why she's here and why we have a connection with her."

"Why are you even doing this Liam? You're betrothed to be married soon so why does this girl even matter to you? Why are you jumping through all these hoops for a woman you have no use for?"

"I just feel like it's wrong that we get to kill her when she's yet to do anything to us." He answered. "If she's a spy like you claim then wouldn't it be wise to bring her here under our supervision so that we can watch her every move and see what she's up to?" He added but I knew better.

I know that the only reason my half brother was suggesting this was because of the prophecy that came since the moment we were born as changelings. There can only be one true Alpha king. There can only be one leader.

Whoever finds their mate and marks her first would rule over the others which wasn't an issue to Liam cause he was already the firstborn but what we didn't know was that we would all be mated to one woman one day so now, his plans are compromised. That's why it came as a shock when we all found out that Sophia was our fated mate.

Liam was already trying to play his cards. He has always wanted the throne so I wasn't surprised that he was insisting and trying to defend this girl. He wants her for the throne.
