Ethan was about to leave, but just as he turned around, his eyes accidentally caught sight of Joshua downstairs.
He stopped in his tracks without meaning to. Tilting his head slightly, he stared down at the scene below with great interest. A subtle, meaningful smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
He thought to himself, What exactly is Joshua trying to do here?
It looked like he was trying to seduce that woman with his looks.
Ethan clicked his tongue a few times. This is way more entertaining than the one from earlier.
In the main hall, Joshua asked a server to pour a glass of wine for Hospital Director Wang. "May I ask what I should call you, miss?"
Hospital Director Wang immediately showed a smile she thought was extremely charming. Her eyes sparkled with excitement she couldn't quite hide. "Just call me Shanshan."
"Miss Shanshan, why don't you try this wine?"
Joshua picked up his wine glass. His movements were smooth and elegant as he gently clinked his glass with hers, creating a crisp and pleasant sound.
Shanshan stared at the handsome man in front of her. Her heart was racing like crazy. She tried her best to hide her nervous excitement as she took a small sip.
In that moment, a rich, smooth taste spread across her tongue. Her eyes widened slightly, filled with surprise and delight.
It was the best wine she had ever tasted — pure and full of flavor.
Maybe it was the taste of the wine, or maybe it was Joshua's charm, but before she realized it, she had already finished the whole glass.
Joshua narrowed his eyes slightly, quietly watching her. His gaze seemed to read every little reaction she had.
Seeing her wanting more, he was sure in his heart that everything tonight would go smoothly.
Just as Shanshan put her glass down, Joshua naturally refilled it for her.
"It seems Miss Shanshan has great taste."
"Most people would think this wine is a bit too strong."
His voice was low and magnetic, like the most enchanting melody in the night, flowing into Shanshan's heart.
Shanshan was caught off guard by the compliment. She lowered her head slightly, a faint blush rising on her cheeks.
"Mr. Joshua, you're flattering me. I just enjoy a few drinks in my free time. This wine suits me just right."
"Just like you, Mr. Joshua — you give people just the right feeling."
Joshua smiled slightly, warm and charming. "Really? It's rare to get along so well with someone like you. Let's have a few more drinks tonight then."
At this point, Shanshan had lost all reason. She was completely taken by the man in front of her.
She didn't expect someone so attractive and exactly her type. All she wanted now was to get closer to him as soon as possible.
"To your excellent taste, Miss Shanshan."
Joshua nearly made himself sick with his own words. He couldn't believe he was actually saying things like this.
Under Joshua's sugar-coated words, the wine in the bottle quickly went down and was almost finished.
During this time, most of the wine had gone into Shanshan's stomach.
Joshua caught the perfect moment. His eyes flickered with a sharp glint, but he kept a calm appearance as he casually asked:
"Miss Shanshan, with such elegance, I'm sure your job must be quite impressive, right?"
Shanshan, now a little tipsy, waved her hand slightly. Her voice carried a mix of modesty and helplessness:
"Nothing special, I'm just a surgeon."
Joshua pretended to be surprised, but there was a hint of curiosity in his eyes. "A surgeon? Miss Shanshan, which hospital do you work at?"
Shanshan couldn't help but hiccup from the alcohol, then slowly replied, "Xiehe Hospital. I work as a surgeon there."
She rested her chin on her hand, sounding a little resentful. "Why didn't you come earlier? I'm going abroad soon."
Joshua raised an eyebrow slightly, asking casually, "Why are you going abroad?"
"It's for a medical exchange program, not sure when I'll be back. If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have pushed Katherine to apply instead."
The moment Joshua heard that, a flash of coldness passed through his eyes. Still, he kept a light smile on his face. "And who is Katherine?"
Shanshan showed a bit of disdain. "She's one of our colleagues. The higher-ups originally wanted to send her."
"But she always wants to show off. Do you know how hard it's been working with her? She constantly tried to suppress me."
"I've been waiting for a chance all these years, and finally, I got it."
She suddenly smiled and looked at Joshua with slightly unfocused eyes, proud and smug.
"You know what? I finally caught her slipping just a few days ago."
"She's been suspended now."
The coldness in Joshua's eyes turned sharp like a blade, but his expression remained calm, with the same faint smile. Still, that smile now carried a subtle chill that others might not notice.
"Is that so? What clever trick did you use? Mind sharing it with me?"
"I'm having some trouble at work too. There's someone I've had my eye on for a while."
Drunk and unguarded, Shanshan answered, "Simple. Just make them mess up without anyone noticing. As long as no one can find proof, it's perfect."
Joshua gave a soft smile. "Miss Shanshan, can you explain exactly how you did it?"
"I'm a bit slow. I didn't quite catch your meaning."
Shanshan's eyes grew hazier, and she chuckled twice. "But you seem smart. Don't tell me you really don't get it?"
Joshua shrugged. "Really, I don't. If I did, I wouldn't be getting bullied so badly at work."
"To be honest, I'm close to getting fired."
"Miss Shanshan, please do me a favor, won't you?"
Shanshan couldn't stand seeing Joshua acting so pitiful. She waved him over. "Come closer and I'll tell you."
Joshua looked at her with no expression, hesitated for a few seconds, then stood up and walked to her side.
Up on the second floor, Ethan burst into laughter when he saw this. Joshua actually had this kind of side?
He had to take a video. If there was ever a business deal and Joshua didn't agree, he'd use this to threaten him.
Just as he was about to start recording on his phone, Andrew's call came in.
The moment the call connected, Andrew's voice came through the receiver. "Where are you? I don't see you."
"Upstairs. Come up, you're gonna want to see this," Ethan said with a gleeful tone, ready to enjoy the show.
