Chapter 24 - One Year of Madness

Kai's POV

I've survived one full year of Sky Ren.

Twelve months.

Fifty-two weeks.

Three hundred and sixty-five days of glitter on my notes, unsolicited hugs, pink post-it notes on court case briefs, and the sound of her voice bouncing through every crevice of my life like she owns the air.

She does.

Somehow, she does.

She calls it our "love-iversary." I call it… Thursday. But today? I'm planning something.

Me.

Kai Ashford.

Planning something.

Not a courtroom strategy. Not a study timetable. But a… date.

God help me.

I started two weeks ago. She thinks I forgot. She's been dropping not-so-subtle hints all month — loud sighs, random countdowns, singing "I Bet He Forgets" in the shower with full eye contact.

But I didn't forget.

I remember everything when it comes to her. The first time she called me "Kaikai." The first time she fell asleep on my shoulder mid-class. The first time she told me she loved me while sobbing over a dog in a movie trailer. She's a walking whirlwind. A clingy, weepy, sunshine-soaked hurricane of chaos.

And I wouldn't survive without her now.

So, here's the plan:

Rented the rooftop of that quiet café she loves — the one with fairy lights and overpriced hot chocolate. Ava helped me bribe the staff. Alex tried to give me emotional advice. I ignored him, obviously.

I've got candles. Music. Flowers — her stupid favorite daisies. A custom cake that says "One Year of You Not Letting Me Breathe (But I Like It)." And a gift: a silver bracelet with a tiny "K" charm because apparently I'm that person now.

I've rehearsed exactly how I'll give it to her.

I'll look at her.

Say nothing for a minute.

Let her talk first — she always does.

And when she's in the middle of telling me something ridiculous like how she thinks our future kids should have flower names or how her hair speaks to her (actual words she's used), I'll slip the bracelet onto her wrist.

Then I'll say it.

"Happy anniversary, Sky."

And maybe, "Thanks for not giving up on me."

Because no one ever stayed.

But she did.

And I'm not going to let her go.
