Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Not Becoming a Trainer This Time!

This Bewear...

Kawaki felt a little conflicted. If Bewear ever found out that its little master was no longer in this world, who knew how it would react?

Bewear had loved the original Kawaki dearly. When news of the shipwreck that took his parents' lives arrived, it had even tried to use the move Pain Split to share the pain of his loss.

Though Pokémon weren't human, they could be incredibly sensitive in certain ways.

Kawaki didn't know if Bewear could sense the change in its "little master."

With a silent sigh, Kawaki glanced around, then said to Bewear, "I'd like to look around a bit."

"Gu~!"

Bewear immediately tossed aside its broom and eagerly led the way for Kawaki.

It had once been the caretaker Pokémon of this daycare—no one in the world knew this place better than it did!

"You're giving me a tour?" Kawaki blinked in surprise.

"Gu~!"

Bewear spread its arms wide in excitement and nodded cheerfully.

"Well then, I'll leave it to you, Bewear." Seeing this adorable Pokémon act so earnestly lifted Kawaki's spirits a little.

Alright. Although it was supposedly leading the tour, in truth, the two simply walked side by side.

The daycare wasn't very large, divided into two main parts: the daycare itself and the inn.

The first floor was a lobby meant to welcome Trainers. Visiting Trainers would come here to handle various services at the front counter.

Such services included Pokémon boarding, move tutoring, egg incubation, and help buying or selling Pokémon eggs.

To raise Pokémon properly, you needed a large enough space.

Following the original owner's memories, Kawaki walked past the counter and pushed open an old wooden door.

What met his eyes was a wide open field.

A wooden fence surrounded the area, but since it hadn't been maintained for a long time, many parts were rotting or broken.

The ground was overgrown with weeds and strewn with scattered rocks. In the distance was a small forest and a lake.

In the original memories, that lake had been for Water-type Pokémon staying at the daycare.

Though it had never been a bustling hub, the daycare had once been full of life.

It had raised many types of Pokémon—some owned by the daycare, others left in its care by Trainers—and you could spot Pokémon everywhere you looked.

But after the shipwreck three years ago, everything had been sold off. What was left was just an empty shell.

Yeah... and the money? Let's not overdo the tragic backstory...

Kawaki now had a general idea of the situation.

After finishing his tour of the daycare, he returned to the main hall.

The building had two floors. The first floor served as the lobby, dining area, and kitchen.

The second floor was the inn, which had six rooms for passing Trainers to rest in.

Since this place was located between Meteor Falls and Fallarbor Town, it would take nearly half a day on foot just to reach the nearest town.

That's why the original owner's parents had added an inn to the daycare, offering food and rest to travelers.

"Meteor Falls... Fallarbor Town..."

Looks like this is the Hoenn region.

Kawaki opened each of the inn's doors and checked the rooms one by one.

No one had stayed here in ages. Every guestroom was thick with dust. Aside from the beds and a few cabinets, there was nothing else.

In this state, they were unfit for guests.

The kitchen, however, still had some well-preserved cookware and utensils. Stored in the cupboards, they hadn't been damaged.

The dining area occupied a corner of the hall. Calling it a "restaurant" was generous—it was just a few simple wooden tables, all covered in dust.

In the far corner, there was also a small wooden door leading to the backyard.

Kawaki walked over and opened it, revealing a lush courtyard filled with greenery and flowers.

What surprised him most was that five or six fruit trees were growing there!

On the branches hung several berries. Judging by their shapes, they looked like common Sitrus, Oran, and Pecha Berries.

This backyard was separated from the main daycare grounds and seemed to have been specifically designated for growing these trees.

"This place is..."

Following the original owner's memories, Kawaki quickly understood.

Because the daycare was so far from Fallarbor Town, the original owner's parents had cultivated this courtyard to grow berries, vegetables, and other crops for daily use.

Being close to Fallarbor Town meant proximity to the great Chimney Mountain. Occasionally, volcanic ash would drift down, making the surrounding soil exceptionally fertile.

However, over time, weeds had overtaken the previously cultivated land.

"With soil this rich, it's perfect for planting crops," Kawaki thought to himself.

Looking at the overgrown backyard, something stirred inside him—a deep urge to plant something here.

"Gu~!"

Just then, Bewear, who had been following him the whole time, ran forward. It reached up, plucked a Sitrus Berry from a tree, and happily carried it over to Kawaki.

Kawaki blinked, seeing the eager look in Bewear's eyes. He couldn't bear to refuse and smiled as he accepted the gift.

"Let's head back to the lobby. I've seen everything," Kawaki said.

"Gu~!" Bewear had no objections.

Back in the daycare's main hall, Kawaki now fully understood his current situation and began thinking things through calmly.

A cheat ability, a daycare, and a Bewear...

If improving a Pokémon's mood could earn him rewards...

Honestly, this cheat ability was pretty well-suited for running a daycare...

With that, Trainers would start bringing their Pokémon here to be looked after.

As long as he gave them proper care and made them happy, he could receive "gifts" from them in return.

Kawaki narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.

As someone who'd grown up watching Pokémon, Kawaki had once dreamed of traveling with his favorite Pokémon like Ash did.

But now? That just wasn't realistic.

He didn't have a cent to his name—he'd starve before he even left the area.

And the wilds were full of aggressive Pokémon. Without even a starter, he wouldn't survive long enough to reach the next town.

Kawaki looked at the Baby-Doll Eyes TM he had just received. Combined with what he remembered about the daycare's main services, a plan began to form in his mind.

Since that was the case, he'd use this TM to earn his very first income in this world.

Then, he'd rebuild this rundown daycare, make it flourish again, and raise a whole bunch of his favorite Pokémon in the backyard!
