## Chapter 11: Mr. Payne Has Someone in His Heart
Jane didn't care where Young Master Johnson went. She arrived at Lee Garden as usual, and had just changed into her costume when she heard a cold laugh behind her.
Turning around, she saw Summer with a slightly twisted expression.
Still daring to provoke her?
Jane raised an eyebrow, but before she could speak, Summer had already learned to jump in first:
"Stop trying to scare me. That night on the arched bridge, so what if I pushed you? I've already checked—the surveillance footage from that day has been overwritten. You have no evidence!"
This was... actually using her brain?
Jane was slightly surprised and gave Summer an extra glance.
"Where did Miss Summer go for advanced studies overnight?"
"What advanced studies?"
Summer didn't understand, and it took her a while to realize that Jane was indirectly insulting her intelligence!
"You!"
Summer was furious, but quickly calmed down and sneered, "What good is being sharp-tongued! Young Master Johnson didn't come today, so no one's sponsoring you. You don't have the qualifications to perform on stage!"
Without someone sponsoring a full house of flower baskets to feature a performer, who went on stage was entirely up to the Lee Garden manager's discretion.
Judging by Summer's haughty manner, Jane wouldn't be getting a turn on stage anytime soon.
Jane didn't mind.
She wasn't short of money.
The reason she came to Lee Garden wasn't to perform on that stage.
She wouldn't be staying here for long anyway.
Jane remained calm and smiled slightly, "That's fine, I can take a break."
"..."
Summer was at a loss for words.
She refused to believe she couldn't find Jane's weakness or leverage against her!
With this in mind, Summer crossed her arms, making no effort to hide her jealousy, and questioned in an interrogating tone, "Let me ask you, where were you last night?"
Jane raised an eyebrow, vaguely sensing something.
But she didn't rush to speak, quietly waiting for what would come next.
Sure enough, Summer laughed coldly and said word by word:
"I saw you!"
"I saw with my own eyes, last night at the hotel, you entered Mr. Payne's room!"
"It's bad enough that you're seducing Young Master Johnson, but you dare to seduce Mr. Payne too? Don't you know Mr. Payne already has someone in his heart?"
"Seducing another woman's man—have you no shame, Jane?"
Summer's arrogant questioning echoed in the small changing room.
Jane was slightly taken aback, and casually replied, "This person in his heart you're talking about, it wouldn't happen to be you, Miss Summer?"
"I..."
Summer was momentarily speechless, then angrily said, "That's none of your business! Even if it's not me, it definitely won't be you! He already has someone he likes!"
"Okay, okay, I get it." Jane nodded, not bothering to engage in this verbal sparring.
"..."
She wasn't even listening!
"Stop right there!"
Summer was furious, pointing at Jane's back and shouting, but Jane didn't even look back as she removed her hair ornaments and walked out.
Summer, beside herself with rage, yelled:
"Let me tell you the truth, the person Mr. Payne likes is my cousin!"
"When I say her name, you'll definitely know who she is!"
"Her name is Fang Shuning, currently a popular actress! All her resources come from Mr. Payne. Since her debut, Mr. Payne has been protecting her all the way!"
"Their relationship is very good! Jane, you might as well give up now!"
This was the first time Jane had heard about this.
So that was it.
No wonder Summer could command such respect at Lee Garden, with everyone flattering and praising her.
It turned out to be Mr. Payne's favor by association.
Jane paused for a moment but didn't linger.
Lee Garden's performances started at 7:30 PM. Summer was already on stage in full costume, and the music could be heard from far away.
Jane crossed the arched bridge to the roadside. While waiting for a car, she happened to look up and saw a huge billboard on the building across the street.
The actress on the billboard had an outstanding temperament, a beautiful face, and a very pleasing smile.
Next to her was the name of the spokesperson: Fang Shuning.
Looking back, this huge billboard directly faced Lee Garden. Anyone standing on the terrace would see it just by looking up.
Jane blinked and was about to walk forward when her shoulder was bumped.
Two young women had bumped into her, too busy scrolling on their phones to watch where they were going. When they realized they had bumped someone, they immediately apologized, "Oh, sorry, sorry."
"It's fine."
Jane picked up her bag that had fallen to the ground, just in time to hear one of the girls exclaim:
"Oh my god, look at the trending topics, it's your idol!"
"Fang Shuning was injured while filming, she fell from a wire harness and is being rushed to the hospital right now!"
"What?" The other girl lowered her head, clutching her phone anxiously. "Ahhh, I don't know how badly my baby is hurt, I'm so worried!"
Jane had already hailed a taxi.
The rest of the conversation was left far behind, no longer audible.
The taxi driver turned on his available light and asked, "Where to?"
Jane was about to give her address when her phone rang. It was Auntie Tong, the hospital caregiver, calling.
Over the years, Auntie Tong had called her at night only three times, and each time it was bad news!
Jane's heart sank, and she immediately answered.
"Hello?"
"Wanwan, it's terrible! Your sister Jenny's heart rate showed abnormal fluctuations, she convulsed for several minutes, and has just been taken to the emergency room!"
Jane's hand holding the phone was visibly trembling. "I'm coming right now! Driver, to First Hospital!"
Perhaps because Jane's expression was so alarming, the taxi driver sped all the way, arriving at the hospital entrance in less than ten minutes, and even said, "Take care, young lady."
"...Thank you."
Jane handed over a hundred-yuan bill without asking for change, wrapped her coat tightly around herself, and rushed into the hospital.
The emergency hall was crowded.
As Jane rushed in, she happened to see a group of people pushing a stretcher into the elevator.
The woman lying on the stretcher had her eyes tightly closed, a strand of long hair falling down, revealing most of her beautiful, attractive face.
If she wasn't mistaken, it was Fang Shuning, whom she had just seen on the billboard.
Jane had no interest in gossiping about others and quickly pressed the button for the opposite elevator.
After waiting about twenty seconds, the elevator finally arrived. Jane pressed the floor button, and the elevator doors slowly closed.
Just then, a hand reached in from outside and held the elevator door.
The person gave an apologetic smile, then turned around and respectfully addressed the man outside the elevator:
"Mr. Payne, please."
Jane was startled.
The next second, Payne stepped into the elevator with his long, straight legs.
Unlike that night when he was suffering from a migraine and looked disheveled.
The man exuded nobility, was relaxed and composed, and with every movement, he radiated an overwhelming pressure. The glance he swept over carried a sharp and cold aura.
Jane had lowered her hat brim to hide her face even before he looked over.
The reason she didn't turn her back was because the elevator was mirrored, with reflective surfaces on all sides.
Fortunately, Payne didn't focus his attention on her at all.
Jane was worried about Jenny, her heart racing with anxiety, wishing she could kick these two out with one foot!
During the elevator's ascent, she heard Payne ask, "Has the overseas medical team arrived yet?"
"Rest assured, Mr. Payne, they're already on the plane and will come to examine Miss Fang as soon as they land," the assistant answered respectfully.
Payne made a sound of acknowledgment but said nothing more.
Soon, the elevator reached their floor.
Jane kept her hat brim pulled down, but she could feel that before walking out, Payne's gaze lingered on her for a moment through the mirror.
He probably didn't recognize her.
Jane breathed a sigh of relief.
It was the same emergency room as before.
Auntie Tong was waiting at the door. Seeing Jane approach, she wiped her tears and said, "The doctor said to prepare ourselves... Wanwan, you need to be ready!"
