Synopsis
Seventeen year old Meiyin has always believed she was just a quiet girl from a quiet village. Raised by her adoptive father in a secluded mountain settlement, her days were filled with gathering herbs, tending to the sick, and listening to the wind whisper through the trees. But her world shatters when she returns from the mountains to find her village burned and her loved ones slaughtered. Grieving and alone, Meiyin follows the only clue her father ever gave her: a distant city marked on an old map, hidden beneath the floorboards with a pouch of coins and a mysterious stone. As she journeys beyond the only home she has ever known, Meiyin begins to sense that the world is far stranger and far more dangerous than she imagined. Whispers of spirit beasts, ancient sects, and a war between celestial and demonic factions stir at the edges of her path. Deep within her, something begins to awaken, something powerful, forgotten, and sought after. Haunted by loss and driven by questions, Meiyin must survive in a world built on cultivation, secrets, and strength. But the truth waiting for her is one that could unravel not just her identity but the fate of the realms themselves.

Chapter 1 - Prologue

Long ago, before the war split the skies, and before fire rained upon the earth, there was a love that should not have been.

She was the daughter of the Heavenly Emperor, born from starlight and spring wind. Her name was Lianhua, and when she danced, flowers bloomed beneath her feet. The stars bowed to her beauty, and even the moon whispered her name. All the realms knew of her virtue and grace, how she tamed cloud serpents with her voice and calmed tempests with a smile.

He was the son of the Demon King, born in the ashes of a battlefield, with shadows clinging to his footsteps. His name was Ruiyan, and he was forged in fire and war. They called him cruel, cursed, a harbinger of calamity. But no one saw the boy beneath the iron, his quiet heart, his longing gaze toward the stars.

They met where gods and demons were forbidden to tread, in the space between twilight and dawn, where realms blurred and rules softened.

Their love was a secret, soft as snowfall, fierce as summer lightning. For years, they stole moments like pearls from time, stringing them into eternity. And when their love bore fruit, they knew they could hide no longer.

Lianhua fled the heavens. Ruiyan turned from the underworld. Together, they vanished into the human realm, cradling the child that should never have existed.

For two fleeting years, they lived among mortals, no longer goddess or demon, only woman and man. And their daughter, with her silver eyes and strange quiet, grew beneath the plum trees, unaware of the war brewing beyond the sky.

But peace built on stolen time cannot last.

When the realms discovered the truth, the heavens howled betrayal. The underworld demanded blood. Each blamed the other for the elopement, for the broken balance, for the scandal.

And so came the war.

Lianhua and Ruiyan vanished, torn apart by fate or force, none can say.

But the child remained, left in a mountain village where no god or demon would think to look. She grew beneath human skies, carrying within her the spark of two worlds that could never coexist.

Her name is Meiyin.

And the past is coming for her.
