Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - The Hero Who Was Abandoned by the Revolution

President Akaishi Tsugumi of the Glaus Republic

A revolution had occurred—one they called the "Magic Revolution."

It was a series of technological innovations spearheaded by my classmate, Ōmaru Rinna, an otherworlder like me.

In this world, the discrimination against women had a simple reason:

Women couldn't use magic.

Magic was the backbone of everything—soldiers, technology, even rituals. Without it, women were excluded from all meaningful work, reduced to nothing more than slaves for menial labor.

But Rinna changed that.

She developed a bracelet that allowed women to wield magic.

Somehow, the spirits—beings that had never approached women before—now gathered around them when they wore it.

This was Ōmaru Rinna's Magic Revolution.

And then…

The real revolution happened.

Also caused by my classmates—though I'd rather not remember the details.

The male nobles and the king were overthrown. The country transformed into a republic led by women.

And so—

---

"Hey, Hero-kun! Undead showed up! We need you!"

"Hold on, I'm coming."

Inside the dark cavern, the voice of a fellow adventurer echoed.

Zombies.

Judging by their movements, they weren't low-level.

"O Ruler of the Heavens, Innocentius! Bring forth the light of judgment, the thunder of justice—purify this land!"

White light gathered around my longsword, illuminating the darkness.

"Cross Sanctuary!"

"GYAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

The zombies disintegrated.

With this, I had taken another step toward peace—

Or so you'd think.

But no.

This wasn't some dungeon ruled by the Demon King.

This was just a mine near the Glaus Republic—the first country we had arrived in.

The undead I just defeated? Wild monsters. Naturally spawned in the depths of the tunnels. Killing them didn't hurt the Demon King at all, nor did it contribute much to the world.

Well, at least the miners working here were grateful…

"Sigh… I wanted to be a real hero."

"Hey, chin up, Hero-kun. You're doing fine. Way better than those women, at least."

The middle-aged adventurer clapped me on the back.

Takumi, A-rank adventurer of the Glaus Republic's Guild.

That was me now.

"Oh yeah, Hero-kun—you got summoned to the Presidential Palace. Better head there after this."

"Huh… Me?"

"Relax, we put in a good word for ya. You might even get a reward!"

The old-timer grinned, his tobacco-stained teeth on full display.

You don't get it, old man…

---

After leaving the mine, I headed straight for my destination.

The Glaus Palace—once the king's castle, now the presidential residence.

When I was first summoned to this world, this place had been the royal palace. But after the revolution, the king was gone.

Now, it was ruled by the president—elected by the people—and her cabinet of young female ministers.

I entered the office.

At the center of the room, seated in an ornate chair, was a girl with sharp eyes and crimson hair tied in a long, slightly unruly style.

She wore a blazer-like uniform, but with a military-style golden cord draped over her Takumilder—giving off an air of undeniable authority.

Akaishi Tsugumi.

My classmate.

After Rinna's technological revolution, Tsugumi had rallied the oppressed women and led the uprising.

Her speeches had been legendary—so inspiring that she became a symbol of freedom and equality.

If the story ended there, it'd be a beautiful tale.

But for some reason, I got caught in the crossfire.

At one point, they even argued that I Takumild be exiled alongside the nobles.

My holy and demonic swords were confiscated, and I was forced to live as a mere adventurer in this city.

---

"You called for me? What do you want?"

BAM!

Tsugumi slammed her desk.

"You traitor!"

"Traitor?! What are you talking about?!"

"Men like you—who see women as nothing but objects—make me sick! You deserve execution! Immediate execution!"

Her teeth ground together so hard I thought they'd shatter. Her eyes burned with fury—there was no reasoning with her in this state.

"Hey, calm down! I've been working hard for the people here! Calling me a traitor, saying I Takumild die—that's too much! We're classmates, remember? Can't you at least hear me out—"

"Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP! All rotten men like you Takumild die!"

Yeah, no. She's not listening.

In her mind, I was some kind of villain who tried to enslave our entire class.

Every time I came here, we ended up arguing.

I figured today would be no different, so I decided to just leave and head back to the guild.

But as I turned to go—

The door burst open.

Female soldiers filed in, surrounding me.

"You are under arrest on suspicion of conspiring with the former royal family and plotting rebellion. You will stand trial. Come with us."

"Huh?!"

These women wore Rinna's bracelets—they could use magic.

Without my swords, I stood no chance against them.

"H-Hey… You're joking, right?"

"Take him away."

Tsugumi's voice was ice-cold.

She had called them here.

This woman… was she serious about arresting and executing me?!

This was going too far!

But I was already surrounded. Resistance was pointless.

"Fine, I'll go quietly. Just… back off a little."

I raised my hands in surrender.

As much as it pissed me off, fighting back would only make things worse.

"This way."

As the soldiers began leading me out—

WHOOSH!

A gust of wind cut through the room.

A girl stood in the doorway.

She wore gauntlets and a breastplate over her blazer, twin swords in hand.

"Release: Demon Sword Grünen."

The greatsword in her right hand erupted in crimson flames.

A Demon Sword—a blade imbued with supernatural power.

The one she wielded, Grünen, was the Sword of Flames—a weapon meant for heroes.

"P-Please stand down, Lady Kazusa! We have no intention of fighting you!"

Nagabe Kazusa.

The Hero who had taken my place.

The one who now ventured into the Legulus Labyrinth, battling the Demon King's forces in my stead.

"Back off, Kazusa. He's going to trial."

"Tsugumi, are you still on about this?! Takumi tried to help us! Do you really believe that 'slave' crap?!"

Kazusa stepped between me and the soldiers, spreading her arms wide.

"I'm protecting Takumi. If you lay a hand on him, I won't hold back—even against you."

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

KAZUSA-SAMA!

YOU'RE SO COOL! I COULD FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU RIGHT NOW!

"Tch. You're always like this. Mocking women until it's time to be saved."

Tsugumi waved her hand, and the soldiers reluctantly backed off.

"I'll execute you one day. Just like those rotten nobles and the king."

For now, at least, the crisis was averted.

Kazusa and I left the room together.
