Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The "God-Brand" Processor

At half-past three in the afternoon, Silas returned, carrying the empty suitcase. On his way, he had stopped by the butcher's and bought two pounds of large bones.

Returning home, as soon as he entered, he saw the Husky, its paws digging into the corner of the sofa, currently engaged in "home demolition" mode.

The instant it saw Silas return, it immediately stood up, twisted its rear to block the view of the mauled sofa, opened its mouth, stuck out its tongue at Silas, and wagged its tail.

Silas looked at this goofball, somewhat speechless. "You're supposed to be a divine steed! A giant wolf!"

Awooo! Awooo!

Hearing itself called a wolf, the Husky immediately tilted its head back and howled, looking incredibly pleased with itself, completely ignoring Silas's "disappointed in your lack of ambition" expression.

Silas rubbed his forehead and casually tossed a bone to it.

The Husky leaped half a meter into the air, opened its mouth, and expertly caught the bone. It then trotted off on its long legs to a corner to gnaw on it.

Ruffling the Husky's head, Silas turned to prepare dinner.

Today, he didn't plan on showing off his culinary skills; after all, he still hadn't secured a job.

To make delicious food, spices and seasonings were essential. However, given their current situation, the household couldn't afford the exorbitant cost of spices.

Following Silas Sotos's memories, he prepared a conventional Western-style dinner.

At half-past six in the evening, Ada returned. Seeing the table laden with hot food and Silas sitting there reading the newspaper, a happy smile spread across her face.

"Did you get things sorted out at the police station?" Ada asked, taking off her overcoat and woolen scarf.

Silas put down the newspaper. "Yes, and I also reported that organization. The police have already started their investigation."

"Well done!" Ada gave him an approving thumbs-up.

At the dinner table, Silas spoke first. "I ran into one of my former tutors today. He's working as a consultant at the police station now."

"Why would a philosophy professor be a consultant at the police station?" Ada blinked her dark eyes after hearing this.

"Ahem… well, he's quite knowledgeable, and he's also done a lot of research on criminal cases and law." Silas, having casually come up with an excuse, hadn't expected Ada to so quickly spot the flaw in his lie.

Ada didn't pay much attention to Silas's expression. She asked while eating, "And then?"

Silas continued his performance. "While assisting the police in investigating that fraud den, that tutor noticed my talent for criminal investigation. They happen to be short of an intern detective with a high level of education, so they want me to give it a try."

Ada smiled. "Well, Silas certainly has a talent for that. For the past six months, he's been acting all mysterious every day, saying things people don't understand, much like those pipe-smoking detectives."

"..."

That jab was quite lethal; Silas was momentarily unable to retort.

Ada thought for a moment and said, "Being a detective isn't too dangerous a job. It's mostly assisting the police. That sounds pretty good. What's the salary?"

Silas scratched his head. "Uh… I forgot to ask about that."

Ada said casually, "Detectives generally don't earn very high salaries, but they're not low either. I hear the benefits are quite good. If you don't have other options, you could give it a try."

Silas grinned. "Yes, that's what I thought too."

Ada seemed to remember something and said, "Oh, by the way, I heard that the Church of Holy Blood and the police department have a cooperative relationship. If you have the chance, you could try to develop in that direction. Perhaps in the future, we can serve the Tri-Moon Goddesses together."

For the past year, Ada had countless times tried to persuade Silas to convert and embrace the Goddesses, but Silas's interest lay entirely elsewhere.

Silas smiled. "You know, this job of mine actually does have a connection with the Church. My tutor said that if I perform well in the future, I might really have a chance to enter the Church of Holy Blood and become a clergyman!"

Hearing this, Ada's face lit up with joy. She turned and ran into her bedroom, then quickly returned, handing Silas a black, wooden-covered book bound with iron wire. "Since you're about to become a clergyman, you should start praying right away!"

Silas didn't feel right refusing. He took the book without looking at it and said with a smile, "I'll read it before bed."

After dinner, Ada returned to her bedroom to continue her studies.

With some free time, Silas casually picked up a book on mechanics left behind by his father.

Silas Sotos's parents had hoped their son would choose mechanical engineering in university, so they had bought some books on the subject. Unfortunately, Sotos had absolutely no interest in it.

Opening the book, the first thing he saw was the structure of a steam engine, followed by the principles and mechanisms of a difference engine, the design principles of steam-powered gear firearms, and a vast amount of mechanical knowledge.

Looking at these texts and incredibly complex diagrams, Silas felt a bit dizzy.

Silas smiled wryly. "I can't understand any of it. Forget it."

Putting the book down, Silas turned and lay down on his bed.

"Damn it! If only I had studied mechanical engineering instead of computer information management. This place is practically a paradise for those engineering students!" Lying on the bed, Silas looked regretful.

He now possessed all the technological knowledge of a future world but was completely unable to put it into practice.

After playing with the Husky for a while, Silas washed up and went to sleep.

In his dream, he returned to the Icy Warship, becoming the Lord of Death and Storms.

Sitting alone on the throne, Silas once again felt his mind become incredibly clear.

"Wait!" At this moment, Silas suddenly realized he remembered all the knowledge and diagrams from the book on mechanics he had looked at earlier.

And after being processed and computed by this higher level of thought, those complex parts, mechanisms, and gears instantly broke down into easily understandable knowledge.

Before long, Silas suddenly found that the principles and structures of steam engines, difference engines, and steam-powered gear rifles were incredibly simple, as simple as 1+1=2.

Reaching this point, Silas's expression became one of immense joy and excitement. "Damn! I finally know what my real golden finger is! It's this god-brand processor! With such a processor, all the knowledge and problems in the world can be easily solved and quickly transformed into knowledge I understand most thoroughly and am most proficient in. This knowledge… this is the most precious and powerful existence!"

"Time! I need time! If I can just get some time, I can possess vast knowledge and power. When that happens, if I just casually introduce a couple of things from Earth, I can acquire a large amount of money. If I then have the chance to offer the Church a couple of inventions, elevate my status to that of a bishop, and obtain some fiefdoms and manors, then I can protect and shelter even more Demonesses, and possess even greater power."

At this thought, a fervent fire ignited within Silas.

"If everything goes smoothly, I might even be able to, under the auspices of the Church of Holy Blood, create my own organization… or perhaps even my own church!?"
