Chapter 4 - Chapter4 Encountering

Humiliate him together?

How is that possible!

Mia shook her head forcefully, wanting to explain, but she couldn't make a sound.

Her heart, which had been moved, was instantly replaced with sadness. She hurriedly tried to take her phone from her delicate handbag to explain, but Lambert didn't spare her another glance. He turned in his wheelchair and headed towards the hall.

The cocktail party had already started.

And as the heir of the largest Wenshte Group in Q city, even sitting in a wheelchair, Lambert was still the most eye-catching and sought-after person, with everyone fawning over him.

Mia silently stood behind him, her small face devoid of any color since they returned.

Inside, she felt an indescribable sense of helplessness and grievance. Why would Lambert misunderstand her like that? The most absurd thing was that she didn't even get the chance to explain.

"Mia, Ms. Olivia is toasting you."

Although Lambert's handsome face remained cold, when speaking to Mia, there was a barely perceptible smile on his lips. To outsiders, they seemed like a loving couple.

But only Mia, who was meeting his gaze at that moment, knew the truth. His eyes held no warmth or tenderness, only warning.

Suppressing the sourness in her chest, Mia fumbled to toast Ms. Olivia. Unable to speak, she could only smile endlessly, even though she didn't want to smile at all.

The seemingly glamorous party finally ended before Mia could get drunk.

She pushed Lambert outside and heard him take a phone call.

"I'm going back to the company. You can take a taxi home later."

The cold tone brought Mia back to reality, making her forget the little tenderness she had received at the party.

He didn't even spare her a glance or a word of care before being pushed into the car by his assistant, Ethan, who was waiting outside.

It was early autumn, and the night wind was a bit chilly. Her mother-in-law had left the party shortly after it started due to some business. Mia hugged her arms, sighed, and walked toward the hotel's main entrance.

She had no idea if it would be easy to get a cab here.

"Yo, where's your husband? Weren't you two all lovey-dovey at the party just now? Why is it the middle of the night, and you're left here all alone? This area is suburban, it's hard to get a cab."

A gloating voice came from behind, and Mia, who was holding her phone, froze. Sure enough, she looked up and saw Hannah sitting in a sapphire blue Maserati, mocking her.

It seemed Hannah was sure that Mia couldn't speak, and she didn't even give her a chance to react, continuing:

"Don't even look at yourself. Do you really think you're something special just because you married a cripple? I'm sure you heard what was said that day, right? No matter how much your dead mom left you, what good will it do? It'll all be mine in the end!"

"However, if you dare to speak out… I don't mind making your child die before it's born!" Hannah's vicious gaze swept over Mia's slightly swollen belly.

Perhaps because Mia had caught Hannah's true face earlier, Hannah now looked like a different person, her eyes filled with cruel and mocking laughter, leaving no room for mercy.

The harsh words made Mia's chest rise and fall with anger.

She was so malicious, plotting against Mia wasn't enough, now she was even targeting her unborn child…

Seeing the smug expression on Hannah's face, Mia felt a surge of fury, and for the first time, she didn't shrink back because she was mute.

She stared at Hannah with all her might, raised her delicate hand, but it was grabbed by Xiao Ou in an instant.

"You want to hit me? Look at you now, pathetic. You really think you can have a child with Lambert, that cripple? Your husband hasn't even cared for you tonight, Mia, you're such a pathetic little thing…"

"Anyway, by the time you leave the mountain, it'll probably be dawn. It's dark and windy. Be careful, sister. Consider this my last gift to you before I leave."

At the end, Hannah's tone turned insidiously cold. Before Mia could react, a bottle of cold mineral water suddenly sprayed towards her.

The Maserati sped away, and an empty mineral water bottle fell to the ground.

Mia's clothes were drenched, and the chilly night wind made her feel even colder.

Her lips were pale with anger, but considering her unborn child might catch a cold, she hugged her arms and rushed toward the roadside, trying to hail a cab.

But as Hannah had said, there were no taxis!

Shivering, her lips pale, Mia turned back toward the road she had come from, hoping to find a car halfway.

Just a few steps in, someone suddenly covered her mouth from behind and pulled her towards the trees by the roadside!

"Guys! This is her! The employer said to get rid of the child in her womb right now!"

Mia's eyes widened in shock, and terror surged in her heart.

No! They couldn't hurt her baby!

Ignoring the fear, Mia bit down hard on the hand that was holding her, and with a painful shout, she was thrown to the ground.

"She bit me! Guys, get her!" the man shouted, furious.

Mia looked at the three men. They were large and fierce, and escaping was impossible.

As they closed in on her, Mia felt the first real sense of despair. She opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out. All she could do was hold her belly tightly, curl up and instinctively close her eyes.

But the expected pain didn't come. Instead, she suddenly heard the men's anguished screams.

Opening her eyes, she saw the three men lying on the ground, having been knocked down!

And standing over them was none other than Ethan, dressed in black!

Did that mean Lambert had come?

In a panic, Mia looked up, her eyes meeting the tightly furrowed brows of the man in the wheelchair.

For a brief moment, in her dazed state, it seemed like he stood up and walked toward her. Then, she felt a clean, strong hand on her shoulder, and her tense heart instantly relaxed. But before she could process it, Mia's vision went dark, and she fainted.

Lambert paused for a moment, then bent down and forcefully pulled Mia into his arms.

Looking at her pale face and soaked dress, Lambert's eyes darkened with an expression that was terrifyingly grim.

If he hadn't sensed something was halfway wrong, this woman might have been in real danger!

Although he didn't care about this woman and the baby in her belly, if someone was thinking about it, that would be another story...

Lambert asked the bodyguards who came with him to arrest the three men, and then he personally carried Mia to the car.

Assistant Ethan quickly reminded: "Master, your legs..."

"No problem." Lambert waved his hand.

Mia didn't wake up until the next morning.

When she opened her eyes, her mind was full of what happened last night. Her face turned pale in an instant. She sat up suddenly and saw Lambert sitting in a wheelchair not far away, with a document on his slender legs, looking at her with gloomy eyes.

His legs were still weak and slightly sideways, and there was no sign of recovery.
