Kira watched as the Academy burned down. The only school where magic flourished was soon to be another section in her history books. The quiet night she had yearned for so long was once again filled with her distress.
Unable to take her eyes off the fire, Kira remembered how it all went downhill. That night she only wanted to spend time with her friends. She wanted to feel the freed.
She wanted to be normal.
Just this once, she thought. Just this once she could be like them.
The three of them, Ashly, Ryen, and Kira, met at the gym's balcony. It was a secret meeting to flaunt their skills. Ashly brightened the dark interior of the gym with her orange wild flames. Ryen amazed them with his shadow-shifting abilities. Then for the most anticipated act, Kira froze all her surroundings with her lightning-blue essence. Everything was fine- until the Agency came.
Her vision blurred as Ashly's flames swept across her face and Ryen's shadows enveloped her body. At the center of the gym were none other than the images that haunted her dreams. They were called the Agency, an organization said to bring balance to the world by eliminating dangerous anomalies.
The agents stood before them wearing black suits and masks resembling that of a lion's skull. Their steps echoed loudly as they approached the three teens. Just by looking Kira could tell there were more than 20 agents filling the gym's interior.
As they continued to approach their bodies shifted into various iterations. None of them uttered a word. Kira could feel their gaze upon her.
They were coming for her.
The agents figures slowly stabilized. They resembled dead corpses with vaguely familiar bodies. Kira trembled, those bodies were of beings she had previously killed.
Unable to face the unsettling image before her, Kira ran away.
Ashly shouted after her while Ryen turned around to push back the incoming agents. Without looking back Kira left her friends fighting alone in that cold gym.
She didn't know if her friends had ran after her or if they tried to fight those ugly monsters. All she could do now was speculate.
Drawing her attention back to the Academy, Kira took a sharp breath in. The Academy was burning before her so she assumed the worst. Ashly and Ryen were currently fighting against the agents but Ashly's flames had gone wild due to her inexperience controlling her power.
Suddenly, she noticed the fire's color changing. It was pink. Ashly only used pink fire in an emergency.
Kira turned towards the night sky. It was obvious to her why the Agency had come now. Out of all the students in the Academy, there were only two rarities. The blue-haired siblings, she and her brother were the most capable in terms of magic and ability. Oddly enough, they were also the only ones from a different world.
The Agency had come for her and her brother. She firmly believed in that truth, but was it possible they had also come for Ashly and Ryen? Why couldn't she sense any of the agents chasing after her?
Was she wrong? Was it not her that the Agency wanted but rather her friends? Why?
Ashly and Ryen were the only ones she confided her secrets to and the only ones she felt most at ease with. For a while, she had believed the universe finally let her breathe amongst others.
Her thoughts fell apart; the only friendship that kept her sane was trapped in a burning building. Her mind dared her to move back inside, but her legs stood frozen with a power far more stable than her own.
At that moment, her brother's words rang inside her head. It's time to leave again. Run away Kira! Run!
Kira willed her legs to move towards the Academy, but it was as if she was possessed. Her body did not listen to her. Slowly her feet moved towards the Academy's tall obsidian gate.
Kira gritted her teeth and clenched her fists. She knew who was controlling her. Another reason to detest the being that joined her world against her will.
And so as the Academy began to burn once more, Kira ran towards its closed gates.
