Chapter 1 - chapter 1

Omega POV (Ayan)

The office always smelled like cold metal and leather. No scent. .

And that's how I liked it.

I kept my head low as I walked past the reception desk. No one looked at me, and I didn't want them to. I had made it this far by being invisible.

I pressed the elevator button and held my breath. I hated sharing space. Too risky. My suppressants were strong, yes—but you never knew when they'd fail. I had heard stories. Some Omegas passed out from one whiff of a strong Alpha. Some got exposed. Some... got worse.

The doors opened with a ding, and I stepped in alone. My heart calmed.

Floor 87. The top. Where he was.

Kieran Vale.

The CEO. My boss. The most feared Alpha in the city. Rumors said he built his company from nothing. Said he destroyed his own brother to take it. That he never kept a lover for more than a month. Some said they vanished. Some said he ruined them.

And I worked directly under him.

Not that he noticed me. He was cold. Sharp. Beautiful in a way that made your bones ache. But never looked at me longer than necessary.

I liked it that way.

The elevator doors opened and I stepped into the quiet floor. The scent here was different. Slightly spicy. Power in the air. I rubbed my wrist where I always applied scent blocker. Just in case.

The secretary, Mara, waved without looking up. I nodded and went to my desk.

Eight hours of quiet. Filing. Organizing. Preparing reports. No talking. No heat. No danger.

Until the door opened.

He stepped out of his office, tall and dark, with eyes like winter storms. Kieran Vale didn't walk—he stalked. His gaze swept the room. Then stopped.

On me.

I swallowed. My fingers tightened on the pen I was holding.

"You. Ayan, right?" His voice was deep and smooth. Not loud. But it went straight through my chest.

"Yes, sir." My voice came out steady, thank God.

"Come in."

I stood too fast. My chair squeaked. I hated that sound.

His office was big. All glass and black marble. No family photos, it was clean Just a huge desk, one chair across from it, and him.

He sat and looked at me. I stood. Waiting.

"Sit."

I sat.

He didn't speak for a moment.

I didn't meet his eyes. That was rule one when dealing with powerful Alphas. Don't look too long. Don't challenge. Don't attract attention.

"I've seen your reports. Clean. On time. Smart layout," he said.

"Thank you, sir."

"I need you on a new project. It's... more sensitive than the others."

Sensitive? My stomach twisted.

"I trust you can handle it." His eyes held mine for a second too long.

"Yes, sir," I answered quickly. Still not breathing right.

He slid a folder toward me. I reached for it. His fingers brushed mine.

That moment—just a second—something flared. Something hot. I bit the inside of my cheek and pulled my hand back.

"Something wrong?" he asked. His voice was smooth, but there was a flicker of something under it. Interest?

"No. Just surprised, sir. I didn't expect to be chosen."

"I always notice what's mine," he said.

My heart skipped.

"Sir?" I asked quietly.

"Nothing. You're dismissed."

I stood. Walked to the door. Didn't look back.

The second I stepped into the hallway, I let out a slow breath. My legs were shaky.

Suppressants weren't working as strong as usual. I'd have to double-check the dosage tonight.

I couldn't afford a mistake. Not here

I was a recessive Omega hiding in plain sight. Nobody knew. And I planned to keep it that way.

He couldn't know.
