When the great chasm opened, the old world was taken in by suprise and was soon overwhelmed by the onslaught of magical beasts. Countries fell and billions died before humanity discovered their potential to capture unbelievable phenomena in cards and wield them to their advantage. Thus, a new hope was born!
It took years before humans could train themselves to fight and decades before the civil wars ended. Though the title of apex race of the world was still in dispute, humanity was able to carve itself safe spaces and a semblance of civilization emerged again.
While old families tried to preserve their legacy, new schools constantly popped up with their innovations to challenge the status quo. Martial culture flourished in the aftermath while old knowledge became increasingly difficult to preserve and invest in. Interference of magical phenomenon also exacerbated this problem.
Flexing their strength, powerful card users became the defacto rulers of the new empires and kingdoms. By hunting the beasts that once hunted them and developing powerful cards, a few were able to rise above others and established themselves as the new aristocracy. Though there were several powerful beasts still living alongside humanity, their threat had become manageable once the common populace submitted to the rule of card users.
However, not all card users were content with playing king. Humanity has never been able to breach the great chasm. Despite two centuries, it still remains a mystery. The beasts, which naturally remain at odds with each other, have mysteriously shown a united front while guarding it. These explorers often engage with other emperors and kings, in an effort to create an alliance against the beasts.
Dylan Cook, popularly known as Moon Seer, was one such explorer. He was scouting the great chasm from afar as part of his routine. His cards made him the greatest card master in spying so he could safely gather intel without alerting the beasts. An invisible eye was hovering in the sky and providing visuals to Dylan. Everyday, hundreds of beasts enter our world through the great chasm and the guarding beasts ignore these incoming beasts. However, today was different.
He could feel the tension in the air as the beasts in the vicinity of the great chasm showed a slight hint of fear. All the beasts were ready to attack whatever was coming in. The explorer was watching curiously when a tall silhouette appeared on the other side of the great chasm. The beasts had immediately begun attacking the silhouette.
As the dust settled, the explorer eagerly looked into the kind of beast that would prompt such a response. However, the explorer was stunned. It was a distinct human figure stepping out of the great chasm, completely unharmed! Seeing this, the guarding beasts immediately began to run away. The human figure didn't chase after any beast. He stood there as if he observed something incredible and some time later started laughing like a mad man.
Dylan felt a deep unease settle over him. He and several allies had spent years trying - and failing to drive the beasts away. Yet, this new intruder had accomplished it without lifting a finger. As Dylan wrestled with the implications and wondered about the man's origins, the figure in question had composed himself and stared directly at the great chasm. With a wave of his hand, he began closing it!
Seeing the great chasm close, Dylan didn't feel a sense of relief. Instead, he felt that a greater threat had come to this world! The invisible eye in the sky greatly trembled as Dylan momentarily lost his concentration while watching this from afar. The mysterious man had noticed this prying eye. Sneering, he waved his hand, a white blur emerged and destroyed the invisible eye.
Dylan didn't despair after one of his greatest cards shattered. Instead he immediately channeled several cards from his grimoire and made a hasty escape while the intruder was still busy closing the great chasm.
There was only one thought in his mind, 'The world mustn't be caught unaware again'.
