Chapter 2.
Pushing open the door, Alan walked in; the office was clean and tidy; behind the desk, there sat a woman, her hair gray, and she wore a pair of monocles; the expression on her face was slightly intimidating.
If Alan didn't know this woman, he would have compared her to that toad of a woman "Umbridge"; however, contrary to her, Amelia was a kind woman with a stern expression, though there was still too much gap in authority between them at the moment, so he had to respect her.
Seeing Alan finally arrive, Amelia, who was reading a thick document, finally placed it back on the table and glanced at him through her spectacles and said in a meaningful voice, "Alan, are you sure you want to resign from this job? You have to know that it's not easy to find a job in the wizarding world, so throwing away a job like this in the Ministry of Magic is not a good idea; at least that's what I think."
'Why does everyone think that I'm leaving this job on a whim?' Alan couldn't help but click his tongue inwardly, as he didn't know that everyone thought too little of him.
"Sorry, Miss Bones, but I've already made up my mind." Alan replied he had already made up his mind—that was why he had already submitted his resignation; and moreover, if he were to fail to apply for that new professor post at Hogwarts, he had many ideas he wanted to try, so he wasn't worried about his future at all.
"Can I know the reason behind your decision?" she asked, nodding her head; however, her voice was still sharp.
"I think my current job doesn't suit me…" Alan said flatly, though it was slightly true as well; however, as he noticed Amelia frown a little, he paused for a moment, and then shrugging his shoulders, he said, "Alright, I'll tell you the truth."
"I'm all ears." Amelia said, her frown softening a little.
"Actually, Hogwarts has opened a new course and is planning to hire a new professor for that course," Alan said, and as he noticed Amelia nodding her head, he couldn't help but ask, "Did you know about that?"
"Of course, how could I not?" Amelia said in a flat tone as if she didn't like Alan's question which was undermining her position and then asked, "So you want to apply for that post, is that the case?"
"You really have a keen eye." Alan smiled and said, "To tell you the truth, after graduating from there, I always wanted to return back to Hogwarts to teach the future generation, the best opportunity this wizarding world has to offer."
But Amelia didn't seem to be satisfied with his answer, so she said, "But as far as I know, there are many people applying, with all due respect, Alan, I don't think there are too many high chances for you to become a professor of this new subject at Hogwarts." Her words were too blunt.
"That, only time will tell." Alan said, shrugging his shoulder, trying to not mind her words, "But if I were to not even give it a try, what kind of wizard would I be?"
Amelia looked at Alan for a few moments, and then finally, with a smile on her face, she replied, "Well, since you seem to think that I'll accept your resignation." And then pausing for a minute, she continued, "However, Alan, if you don't succeed in getting the job, you can come back here."
"Thank you for your understanding, Ms. Bones." Alan stood up from his seat and said, since she had given her approval, there was not much left to say, and after a minute he walked out of her office and made his way back to his desk, and then taking out his cherry wood wand, he tapped it on his luggage, making it light as a feather.
Grabbing his thing, Alan said goodbyes to a few of his colleagues, and by the time he left the office, half an hour had already passed by.
passing through a messy and noisy open area divided into many small cubicles, where wizards were conversing with each other, the area was too lively for its own sake. So ignoring its liveliness, Alan walked straight past it, since this was the office he wanted to enter initially, Auror headquarters.
"Alan, Alan." As Alan was about to walk out, he heard a voice calling out his name, so he turned around and saw a familiar person approaching him. "It's you, Arthur; how are you?" Alan greeted the man with a smile.
The person standing in front of him was Arthur Weasley; he was adorned in a green shirt and black pants, and through his glasses, the hint of anxiety was clearly visible on his face. "Alan, I just heard someone say that you are quitting your job?" Arthur, taking a deep breath, asked.
"That's some ancient old news." Alan joked, allowing Arthur to take a deep breath.
"What do you mean?" Arthur asked, clearly not in the mood for jokes, so Alan, dropping his smile, replied, "It's obvious, isn't it? I already quit my job." and then pointed to the box in his hand.
"Oh, Alan, how could you be so hasty?" Arthur said, while looking in the mood to persuade Alan to rethink about his decision; being a father of seven children, he knew how important it was to have a stable job, that too in the Ministry of Magic, but here this young man was planning to throw away that stable job. How could he let that happen?
"Alan, what are you going to do if you quit your job like that? Don't tell me you're planning to retire at such a young age?" Arthur said even thinking about retiring put a bad taste in his mouth; though if it was any other person, Arthur wouldn't have minded, since that was their own life, but here it was another case, since he had a great relationship with Alan's parents, so he felt he too had a slight responsibility toward this young man.
Alan, hearing Arthur rant about, felt a growing headache, so he raised his hand and said, "Calm down, Arthur; it's not what you think." And as Arthur finally calmed down, he continued, "Instead of retiring, I'm planning to apply for the new professor's post that had opened in Hogwarts."
