Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 7: A FRAGILE TRUCE – A TEMPORARY ALLIANCE OR COLLABORATION FORMS

Without him, the office felt colder.

Alexander had just left the room, and Isabella was sitting back in the chair with the tablet on the glass table dimmed. The weight of what he had said was still hanging over her. "That's why I trust you with this." Have faith. It shouldn't have made a difference. She needs outcomes, not his trust. Responses.

There were fatalities as a result of someone in his tightly coiled empire leaking information about confidential shipments. However, his gaze on her, as if he saw her, as if he understood—she forced herself to stand up and shook her head. Reyes, pay attention. Remain alert. However, her body was not paying attention. Her skin was heated in a manner unrelated to adrenaline, and her pulse was still too rapid. She detested it. She detested the way he gave her the impression that her walls weren't as secure as she had thought. The tempest in her breast would not go away, so she stood and paced the room.

The door then opened once more.

Alexander.

His face was different this time; he was harsher, his jaw was clenched, and his eyes held a stiffness she had never noticed before. With his phone gone and his hands clasped tightly at his sides, he took slow, deliberate movements to get closer to her.

"What is it?She read him right away and asked. Before he could speak, his lips formed a thin line. "There was an intrusion. at one of our storage locations off-site. Security footage reveals that someone tampered with the shipping containers, although there is little damage and no reported theft of assets. Her back tensed. altered.

Do you believe there is a connection?"He answered in a huskier, quieter voice, "I think it's too much of a coincidence not to be." "Harris is currently watching the video. I wanted you to be the first to see it.

They looked at each other.

This time, no walls.

Don't use power.

There are just two individuals caught in the same storm. Alexander walked to the control panel near the wall without saying another word. As the big screen came to life and displayed shaky security footage of a poorly lit warehouse, the lights faded a little. In the corner, time stamps flickered. Someone stepped out of the shadows. Put on your hood. gloves. Accurate. Expert. They knelt near a container bearing the emblem of Steele Enterprises after avoiding two security locks as if they were second nature. Alexander pressed the pause button.

You see that?He gestured to a tiny gadget nestled against the container's seal, just barely visible on the screen. Isabella felt sick to her stomach. A signal scrambler, that is. military-grade. That would be impossible for the average criminal to obtain.

Slowly, he nodded. Therefore, this isn't theft. It is sabotage. She let out a big breath, the ramifications already causing her mind to race. By tracking movements and changing contents, they might jeopardize entire supply chains if they are manipulating shipments. Oh no. It was a personal matter.

There was silence between them. heavy. Alexander turned, a stony grimace on his face. "Whoever this is, they are no longer only aiming at my business. They are aiming for us. She ought to have concentrated on the danger, on the assignment.

But the way he said "us" was all she could think about. And the realization that she didn't despise it frightened her. Perhaps because she now had a larger target to despise—'the sabotage."
