Chapter 9 - The Spell System Awakening

Evan crouched on the edge of the ruined rooftop, surveying the chaos below. He watched as first responders scrambled around the collapsed Stark Industries building, but his eyes were fixed on the motionless red-and-gold armor of Tony Stark half-buried beneath a twisted beam.

For a moment, Evan hesitated but he couldn't ignore the sight of Stark, helpless and alone.

Gritting his teeth, Evan leapt down, landing lightly beside Tony. With a quick glance to make sure no one was watching, he wedged his shoulder under the beam and heaved, using his enhanced strength to lift it just enough to free Stark's upper body.

Tony groaned faintly, his face pale behind the cracked mask. Evan gently dragged him out from the rubble, propping him up against a chunk of concrete. He checked for a pulse, relief flooded him when he found one, strong and steady. For a moment, Evan just stood there, catching his breath, unsure what to do next.

Suddenly, a sharp voice rang out behind him. "Hey! Who are you? Step away from him!"

Evan spun around to see Pepper Potts hurrying toward them, her heels clicking over the debris. Her eyes were wide with worry and suspicion, but she didn't hesitate-she rushed straight to Tony's side, kneeling beside him and brushing dust from his face.

Evan raised his hands awkwardly. "Uh, hi. I'm… just a concerned bystander?"

Pepper shot him a look that could have melted steel. "A concerned bystander dressed like a ninja? What is this, Comic-Con?"

He glanced down at his black mask and suit, realizing how ridiculous he must look. "It's, uh… laundry day?"

Pepper didn't even blink. "Right. And I suppose you just happened to be in the neighborhood, saving billionaires from falling buildings?"

Evan shrugged, trying to look harmless. "I have a thing for dramatic rescues and, you know, rooftop jogging with a twist."

Before Pepper could reply, a calm but firm voice cut through the tension: "Hands in the air, please."

Coulson's hand went to his earpiece. "This is Agent Coulson. I need backup at my location. Possible enhanced individual on site. Repeat, requesting immediate support."

He leveled his gun at Evan, his voice calm but commanding. "You in the mask-hands in the air, now!"

Evan hesitated, glancing from Coulson to Pepper. Pepper's face was tight with worry as she tried to rouse Tony, her voice trembling. "Tony? Tony, can you hear me? Please wake up…"

Evan's mind raced. No time. The arc reactor-if I don't get it now, everything's lost. Focus!

Without missing a beat, Evan bolted, disappearing into the wreckage. "No time for paperwork-I've got an arc reactor to find!" he muttered as he sprinted toward the remains of Iron Monger's suit.

He darted away before Coulson could react, weaving through the rubble with desperate speed. Sirens blared in the distance. Come on, come on… Where did Iron Monger fall? The reactor should be-there!

He spotted the twisted, hulking remains of the Iron Monger suit half-buried in debris. Evan scrambled over, heart pounding. "Okay, Stane, let's see what you left behind…"

He yanked at a scorched panel, tearing it away with enhanced strength. The blue glow of the arc reactor flickered inside the ruined chest cavity. For a split second, Evan just stared, awed and relieved. This is it. The thing that started it all. The thing that can save me.

He reached in, gripping the reactor. "Sorry, Stark. Sorry, world. I need this more than anyone right now." With a grunt, he tore the arc reactor free, its light pulsing in his hands.

A shout rang out behind him-Coulson's team was closing in. Evan clutched the reactor to his chest, adrenaline surging. No going back now. This is my only shot. I just hope the system knows what it's doing…

Without another glance, Evan sprinted into the night, the arc reactor blazing like a stolen star in his grasp, his mind a storm of fear, hope, and the relentless countdown echoing in his ears.

----

Tony Stark's eyes fluttered open, a harsh cough rattling through him as he fought the dust and pain. He blinked against the dim light, his gaze landing on Pepper Potts, who was kneeling beside him, her face a mix of relief and worry.

"Hey, you're finally awake," Pepper said, voice tight but warm. "Don't scare me like that again, okay?"

Tony cracked a tired grin, voice rough but laced with his usual wit. "Well, you know me, I like to make an entrance. Or, in this case, a collapse."

Pepper rolled her eyes but smiled. "You're impossible."

Before Tony could respond, Agent Phil Coulson stepped forward, his expression serious as he scanned the scene. "Mr. Stark, glad you're conscious. We had a situation here-someone in black, masked, moving fast."

Tony frowned, trying to sit up but wincing. "A ninja? Great. Just what I needed."

Coulson nodded. "Not your usual kind. He was near the Iron Monger wreckage. We lost track when he disappeared into the rubble."

Tony's eyes narrowed, the weight of the situation settling in. "That reactor, Obadiah Stane stole the second generation arc reactor from me, it's still here, buried somewhere in that mess. If someone's after it, that's bad news. Real bad."

Pepper's worry deepened. "Tony, you need to rest. You're in no shape to chase ghosts."

Tony shook his head, frustration clear in his voice. "Rest isn't an option when the tech that can save lives-or destroy them-is up for grabs. If that reactor falls into the wrong hands, it's not just my problem anymore."

Coulson glanced toward the ruins, then back at Tony. "We're locking down the area and searching. But whoever this guy is, he's fast and desperate."

Tony let out a dry chuckle. "Well, desperate makes for bad company. Let's just hope he's not stupid."

Pepper reached out, steadying him gently. "We'll handle it. You just focus on getting better."

Tony gave a tired but determined nod. "Yeah, yeah. Just don't let him turn my tech into a weapon of mass destruction. I've got enough of those running around already."

The tension hung thick, but beneath it, a spark of resolve. The battle was far from over-and Tony Stark knew the real fight was just beginning.

----

Evan grinned "Finally, the main quest is done!"

He looked at the Arc Reactor, puzzled. "So… how do I activate the system now?" Suddenly, the Arc Reactor vanished from his hand.

[Ding! Arc Reactor detected. Activating system…]

[System activation complete! Congratulations, host. The Spell System is now online.]

Evan's eyes lit up. "You're finally back, System. I've been waiting for this!"

It was only the second time he'd heard the system's voice since all this began and the first was really bad.

"So, System, what can you do?" Evan asked eagerly.

[This is the Spell System. You can now gain the powers of the Twelve Talismans.]

Evan's jaw dropped. "The Twelve Talismans? Like in Jackie Chan Adventures?" He kept his voice down, not wanting to wake anyone.

He knew how powerful those talismans were. With even one, he'd be hard to beat-and maybe even safe, no matter what.

[There are twelve main quests. Each quest lets you earn a talisman's power. But you can only activate a quest under special conditions.]

Evan groaned. "More activation requirements? It took me a year just to get the system running…"

[The system also tracks Justice Points and Sin Points. You can exchange these for items in the system shop.]

"Justice and Sin Points? How do those work?"

[Justice Points are earned by doing good deeds. Sin Points are gained by breaking rules or doing bad things.]

Evan nodded, opening the system shop out of curiosity.

Inside, there were two sections: one for Justice Points and one for Sin Points.

He clicked the Justice Shop and saw all sorts of good magic from Jackie Chan Adventures-spells, charms, and talisman abilities.

The Sin Shop was full of dark magic and upgrades for his Shadow Corps. He even spotted the demonic energy of the Eight Great Demons, but it cost a million Sin Points!

"One million? That's crazy," Evan muttered, eyeing the price tag.

He wondered how many points he could actually earn at once.

Scrolling further, he found something interesting-a "Talisman Quest Clue" that could be bought with either Justice or Sin Points.

[Exchange one thousand points to get a clue for the next Talisman quest.]

"That's not too bad," Evan thought. "If I know where to look, finding a talisman will be much easier."

He noticed a new panel had appeared:

Host: Evan Parker

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Lifespan: 97

Abilities: Summon Shadow Corps, Spider Mutation Gene, Boosted Control over Shadow Kingdom

Status: Healthy (Excited)

"Nice," Evan said, impressed. "It even shows my stats."

He was glad the system finally felt like something out of his favorite stories.

While scrolling, Evan's mind raced. "I should unlock the Shadow Corps' Shadow Step first. That would let me escape fast if things get dangerous."

[Shadow Step: Shadow Step allows the user and his Shadow Corps to instantly move through darkness, slipping from one shadow to another in a fixed range. It's the ultimate escape or infiltration move-perfect for vanishing in a pinch or sneaking past enemies undetected.]

[To unlock Shadow Step, you must summon 100 Shadow Ninjas. This costs 100 Sin Points. Activating Shuttle Ability costs 1,000 Sin Points.]

"So I need 1,100 Sin Points total," Evan calculated, lying back on his bed. "That's not impossible."

As he drifted off to sleep, Evan felt a surge of excitement. With the Spell System and the promise of the Twelve Talismans, everything was about to change.
