Chapter 15.5: A Sunny Day, A Fishing Mishap
[Note: This is a non-canon chapter with no impact on the main story]
The sun rose gently over the grassy hills near Tanvin's riverside house. The birds chirped lazily, the wind whispered through the leaves, and everything in the world felt peaceful.
Today was a fishing day.
Tanvin, dressed in a simple tunic and straw hat, hummed to himself as he pushed his wooden boat into the calm river. A little orange-and-white pixelated cat hopped in behind him—his loyal companion, Pixel.
"Alright, buddy," Tanvin said as he rowed them to the middle of the river. "Let's catch something good today. No zombies, no red crystals, no mysteries—just fish."
Pixel meowed once and curled up at the edge of the boat, his tail flicking lazily in the sun.
The river shimmered beneath them, smooth and quiet. Tanvin cast his line into the water with a satisfying plop.
A moment passed.
Another.
Then, the soft sound of water lapping against the boat. A light breeze. Pixel purring.
Tanvin leaned back, letting the sun warm his face. His eyes drifted half closed. And without meaning to, he began to sing softly.
A blocky boat, a pixel cat,
We float along, no need to chat.
The fish may bite or swim away,
But peace like this should always stay.~
He grinned.
"Not bad, huh?"
Pixel blinked slowly and gave a contented purr.
Suddenly, the fishing rod jerked.
"Oho? What do we have here?" Tanvin grabbed it with both hands. "Come on, come on…"
The rod strained. Whatever was on the other end, it wasn't small.
"This one's a fighter!"
The boat rocked slightly as Tanvin braced his feet and reeled it in. Sweat trickled down his brow, but he was smiling wide now.
Finally—with a mighty splash—a huge silhouette broke through the water and flopped into the boat.
THUMP!
Water sprayed everywhere. Pixel yowled and leaped onto Tanvin's head, his claws gripping tightly.
"What the—?!"
Tanvin stared down.
It was a fish.
No—it was massive. Long body. Sharp fins. Glinting teeth.
It was… a shark.
[System Message: You caught... Something that really doesn't belong here.]
Tanvin froze.
The shark blinked.
Pixel screeched and leapt onto the fishing rod, scrambling to escape.
"NONONONO—WHY IS THERE A SHARK IN MY BOAT?!"
The boat rocked hard as the shark flopped once more. Tanvin screamed, grabbed Pixel under one arm, and dove straight into the water.
He swam like a man possessed, thrashing toward shore as fast as he could.
Behind him, the boat bobbed gently, the shark flopping lazily in the sunlight.
Tanvin crawled up the muddy riverbank, panting, soaked, and traumatized. Pixel clung to his shoulder like a wet towel.
"I just wanted a peaceful fishing trip…" he muttered.
Pixel sneezed.
They both sat there in silence for a while.
From the river, the shark gave one more mighty splash.
Tanvin stood up, clutching Pixel close.
"No more fishing," he declared. "From now on—we farm."
Pixel meowed in agreement.
