Chapter 6 - Pilot ~ Part 6

Kane paced the room on the ark, still trying to figure out what happened. "There it is." He said calmly, Abby's head looking up quickly at that. Her face blank as Kane spoke, lips slightly pressed together and she blinked slowly, all quiet worry for her daughter Clarke. "We know they've landed, but communications are down, which means we're still blind to conditions on the ground." Kane stated. "Thanks to Abby's wristbands at least we know how those conditions affect the human body, which is more than we've had for 100 years, so nice work." He said with a heavy and loud sigh, Abby only briefly smiling at the praise for her work, there were much bigger issues on her mind.

Kane gave a brief nod to the others in the room before continuing on. "Now, what are they telling us?" He asked he asked as he stepped forwards. In the centre of the room attached to a beam there were several screens mounted, images of the kids and their vitals next to their face. "Two dead kids, dark tiles." Abby said to Kane, she was trying to keep the worry pushed down, her lips pressed together after the comment, she could barely look at the screen but she didn't want to imagine why two kids had died already.

"Dr Jackson, please share our theory with councilor Kane." Abby said as she stood by the control panel to the screens. A tanned man with short black hair looked to Abby, he gave a brief nod to her. "Of course." He said before turning to Kane who was still pacing the room. "Granted, they've only been on the ground for 7 minutes, but as of now, we believe the fatalities, are due to the landing. Not radiation levels." He said, clutching a high tech tablet in his hand as he spoke to Kane who gave a brief nod. "Both boys died at the same time that we lost contact with the Drop Ship." She informed him. "Rough landing? That's your theory?" He asked almost skeptical. Abby nodded seriously. "The dots connect." She said, Kane had always been a pain but right now they needed to figure out what was going on.

"Would you agree that if it was radiation, wed see fatalities climb fairly quickly now?" He asked, his arms crossed against his chest as he looked at the live feeds on the screen and he briefly pointed to them. "Because I'm noticing a lot of red on that board." He said matter of factly. "Spiking vital signs, two possibilities..." Abby said. "One, injuries sustained during landing." She told him. "And the other?" Kane asked as he looked at her wondering what she was thinking. "They're excited to be there." She said a little softer and watched Kane turn back to the screens. She looked back at them herself, her face concerned as she only focused on her daughters vitals. The lines displaying her heart rate were white, not red like the others, her heart beat per minute being 89, and Abby didn't know what to make of it.

Clarke was leaning against the slanted door of the Drop Ship, the map laying down on it as she tried to make a plan of how to get to Mount Weather. She'd circled an area on the map, also managed to find a short metal handle which she was using as a ruler, which was helping right now. She felt the presence of someone who'd just walked off the Drop Ship and looked up seeing them approach her and saw Wells stood there. "We got problems." Wells said to her. "The communications system is dead. I went to the roof, a dozen panels are missing, heat fried the wires." He sighed defeated, his shoulders dropping in frustration.

Clarke let out a small tut before briefly glancing at the map. "Well, all that matters right now is getting to Mount Weather. See? Look." She said and leaned back over the map. "This is us." She said, she dragged the chalk along the straight edge of the metal towards the other end. "This is where we need to get to if we want to survive." She said and briefly glanced at Wells. "Where'd you learn to do that?" Wells asked confused but also impressed.

Clarke half looked his way, not making eye contact but enough to acknowledge the statement. She closed her mouth, a hint of sadness filling her eyes before she closed them, refusing to answer his question. "Your father." He said mostly to himself, knowing he should have known that earlier. Clarke started grabbing her things together, hoping to completely ignore the current conversation. "Ah, cool, a map." Someone said from behind her making Clarke turn around.

A kid stood there in a jacket similar to Clarke's, though his had a red hood on and he also decided to wear what looked like ski goggles which were currently resting on the top of his head, keeping the mop of brown hair off his forehead. "They got a bar in this town? I'll buy you a beer." He said with a smile, obviously joking and just happy to be on Earth and not having been exposed to any radiation. Wells turned around, his jaw slightly clenched and he grabbed the kids arm, his face firm as he pushed him away from them. "You mind?" He mumbled. "Whoa." He said, frowning at the dark skinned kid as he stumbled back slightly.

"Hey, hey, hey, hands off him." Another kid said to Wells, making him turn around. "He's with us." He said, a group following behind the guy who had spoken. "Relax." Wells said as he held up his hands in defence, almost amused at the audacity of this group. "We're just trying to figure out where we are." Wells stated, the kid with the goggles taking the opportunity to leave the situation, a slight amused smile on his face. Bellamy heard this as he wasn't too far away and decided to get involved. "We're on the ground. That not good enough for you?" He asked, Octavia at his side.

Wells stated at him for a moment, almost shaking his head before he stepped forwards away from the group and walked towards Bellamy. Clarke couldn't help but watch on with slight worry in her eyes, she would never forgive Wells for what he did but she could feel how tense this exchange was getting. "We need to find Mount Weather." Wells said. Clarke placed the chalk down on the door quickly and stepped forward, lifting her hand to brush some hair away from her mouth as she followed Wells closer to Bellamy, the group who'd saved the kid in the goggles tagging closely behind. "You heard my father's message. That has to be our first priority." He explained.

Bellamy looked down at the ground for a moment why Octavia almost looked up in thought. "Screw your father." She said bluntly. "What, you think you're in charge here? You and your little princess?" Octavia asked, her head cocking to the side as she looked to Clarke, venom dripping from her tongue as she spoke. "Do you think we care who's in charge?" Clarke asked like it was obvious. A crowd had gathered around them now, the kid in goggles standing behind Clarke with an amused smile as the drama though it did fall pretty quickly. "We need to get to Mount Weather." She said, ignoring the way Octavia's small smile disappeared. "Not because the Chancellor said so, but because the longer we wait, the hungrier we'll get and the harder this'll be." She said, now turning to speak to the others who were paying attention.

"How long do you think we'll last without those supplies?" She asked obviously, kind of annoyed that nobody else had thought of this. "We're looking at a 20-Mile trek, okay?so if we want to get there before dark, we need to leave, now." She said nodding to herself slightly hoping the others would understand how serious the situation was.
