Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: A Home Worth of Living

Sylas was outside his poor house. It looked the same old, knotted, harsh way as it did before. The door barely held together, and the ceiling creaked. He tired of it, but it worked. Better was what he was looking for

Then he remembered the ability he just acquired.

> [New Ability Acquired – Basic Creation Magic]

You can now modify and enhance simple structures.

– Requires: Wood, Stone, Mana

– Quest: Improve Your Shelter (0%)

He smiled slightly. "Okay, let's see what this can do."

He approached the wall and put his hand on it. A soothing energy coursed through him. The wood started to move. The cracks sealed themselves, and the entire thing leveled itself out.

Wall improved (Done)

Next: Repair the roof

"Good," Sylas muttered.

He glanced up at the roof. "This thing's been leaking forever."

He pulled out a few logs from his pack and laid them on the ground. He didn't have much, but it'd have to do.

> [Resources]

Wood: 3/5

Stone: 2/3

Mana: 50/50

He concentrated again. The logs levitated up, flowing into position.Like pieces of jigsaw, they adjusted and bent to fit into the roof. The sag disappeared in seconds

> [Roof upgraded (Done)]

Next: Repair the door

Sylas descended, feeling quite pleased. This was coming along quicker than he expected.

The door, though—that was the worst. It hardly opened, scraping all the time on the ground. He knelt and examined the frame.

"Yeah, this needs stone."

He took two stones out of his bag and pushed one against each side of the doorway. Once more, he used magic. The stone fused into the wood, making it solid. The door creaked silently closed as the hinges aligned.

> [Door upgraded (Done)]

Final: Final Touches

He stepped back and surveyed the home. The roof seemed solid. The walls stood upright. At this point, the door seemed respectable.

Sylas smiled. "Finally."

Suddenly, he heard the sound of footsteps coming up behind him.

He turned to see Selene approaching along the path, carrying a small basket.

"Oh," she said, stopping a few paces short. "You really spruced it up."

Sylas shook dust off his shirt. "Yeah. Just done."

Selene gazed at the house, then him. "You look different too."

He blinked. "Huh?"

"I don't know," she replied, smiling slightly. "Taller. Stronger. Kind of. handsome."

Sylas blushed. "Well. thanks. It's probably just the dirt and sweat."

She laughed softly. "No, really. It suits you."

He rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly at a loss for words.

Selene moved closer. "You did a good job. It actually looks like a home now."

Sylas pushed open the door. "Want to see inside?"

She nodded and entered behind him. The space was still plain, but it was warmer now. Cleaner. Stronger.

"Nice," Selene said, placing the basket on a table. "I brought some bread."

He sat down heavily. "Thanks. I needed this."

They sat quietly for a moment. Just the creak of the wind outside and the popping of the fire.

"You going to restore anything else?" she asked.

Perhaps later," Sylas replied. "For now, I'd just like to appreciate this."

Selene smiled once more. "You've earned it.
