Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: First Level Up!

The boys were scared, but also very excited, they wanted to test how this world works and their new skills right away. However, they knew that they had to look around the area to see if there was anything dangerous that could threaten them. On first sight the world looked similar yet everything was to a much bigger scale. The trees were huge, the flora was huge in general – mushrooms were the size of a teenager. As for animals, they had yet to see one.

"My interface shows that I have 0 experience, the experience needed to get to the next level - 10. It doesn't seem like a distant prospect," Jason said.

"I wonder what we can get experience for. In games, it's usually killing monsters, but I don't want to attack something that can be much stronger than us. Do you have any other skills Jason?"

"No, just calling these wasps, in the description there is information that I can give them simple commands"

"I only have a shield, I'm about to test how it works – Lesser Protection," Lucas said in his thoughts. His body was covered with transparent energy, it looked a bit like a sphere of water floating around 2 centimeters from his body. – "How to check if this thing is durable... Take a branch and try to hit me," Lucas said to Jason

Jason took it, a branch that looked a bit like a baseball bat that was a few yards away from them.

"I'll start gently, I don't want to hurt you"

"Ok, sure, but I know that's what you're dreaming about."

Jason swung and punched Lucas in the shoulder area. He used about 30% of his little physical strength. To his surprise, the stick bounced and almost fell out of his hand.

"Ok, I didn't feel anything, I think it works. Try harder"

Jason swung with all his might at the same place. He hit the transparent shield, to the surprise of both boys, the shield broke, but at the same time the stick with which Jason was hitting also broke. The impact was very strong for the boy's abilities, Jason felt his hand go numb, the uneven surface of the club grazed his fingers on the inside.

"Not bad, you are okay? I damaged my hand a little from the blow," Jason began to complain.

"No, everything is ok, maybe now we can check what your insects can do?"

"Sure, I was supposed to propose it myself. Do you want us to test them on your shield?"

"I don't know, these freaks look venomous, I don't want anything to fall off from the bite of these oversized bees"

"Don't worry, he'll just tell them to destroy your shield"

"Er. Ok, but be careful, it looks like we're a long way from the nearest hospital"

"Destroy Lucas' Shield," Jason thought, directing this thought to the wasp swarm, at the same time he was prepared for their cancellation.

The wasps rushed, making loud shrills, buzzing sounds, their flight sounding like drilling into a concrete wall. One strike, two, three and Lucas's shield shattered, sending particles of energy around. However, the Wasps seemed to continue attacking the boy.

"Stop!" Jason exclaimed, both in his mind and aloud. The wasps suddenly hung motionless.

"It doesn't seem to be exactly easy to communicate with them," Jason panted

"Yes, what are you not going to say..." Lucas replied with a distinct sense of relief. – "I withstood a few hits, unfortunately I don't think I stand a chance against something bigger, I'm a bit jealous of your skills"

Suddenly, the familiar interface appeared in front of the Boys again:

"You have received 5 experience points, experience up to the next level 5/10"

"Lucas, did you get experience for this training too?"

"Yes, interesting, it seems that we don't have to kill anyone to advance to the next level. I wonder if we will be able to level up by repeating the same thing.

The boys repeated the simulation of the attack on Lucas' shield, and to their delight, they received more experience points and advanced to the second level.

"Great! I wonder what we'll get for the promotion..." – Lucas' question was quickly answered by the interface:

"You have advanced to the next level, you have 5 character points and one skill point at your disposal"

Jason glanced at the interface to study it in peace. A + sign appeared next to the windows showing his statistics.

Strength: 1

Dexterity: 1

Intelligence: 2

Vitality: 1

With the number denoting the amount of mana and life, there were no additional signs. The boys assumed that they increase with stats and level, both of them increased their health points to 7, as well as their mana.

"Damn, I don't know what to spend my available points on, since I'm a seminarian, I think I should invest in intelligence..."

"I think so do I, but none of us is a packed badass, maybe it's worth investing a few points in strength and dexterity? What do you think Lucas?"

"I guess you're right, for now we have the same statistics, maybe we will invest the points differently and see how it will translate into our physical fitness?"

"Good idea, I'll start. I add one point each to strength, to dexterity and vitality, I have two points left and I invest everything in intelligence"

Jason immediately felt the difference, and not a small difference, his strength increased from one to two points. Jason literally became twice as strong and twice as agile in an instant. His health and mana have also increased. After assigning all character points, his new stats were as follows.

Strength: 1 --> 2

Dexterity: 1 --> 2

Intelligence: 2 --> 4

Vitality: 1 --> 2

Hit points: 7 --> 9

Mana: 7 --> 11

"Wow, I wasn't expecting this, I feel like some kind of super hero" Jason took the branch he was using to hit Lucas' shield and swung it at the tree. The branch broke on impact, Jason's hand did not feel the force of the impact in principle. The young summoner knew that his strength had increased significantly.

"Now it's your turn!" he shouted to Lucas. Lucas allocated his points as follows:

Strength: 1 --> 3

Dexterity: 1 --> 2

Intelligence: 2 --> 3

Vitality: 1 --> 2

Hit points: 9

Mana: 9
