Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Spear it With Kindness

POV: Sans

Undyne stood tall at the edge of the shimmering waterfall path, armor gleaming like a challenge issued by the underground itself. When Frisk stepped forward, eyes wide but steady, it wasn't hesitation that filled the air—it was weight. Like the moment knew what was coming.

And me? I stayed hidden behind the reeds. Close enough to intervene if it went bad. Far enough not to interrupt fate.

"Human!" Undyne boomed, pointing her spear at Frisk. "You've made it far. But this is where it ends!"

Frisk didn't flinch. Just stepped forward.

"You've made choices," Undyne growled, blue magic curling in the air. "I don't know what your game is, but I've seen monsters… roughed up, afraid. This ends now."

Frisk opened their mouth. "I didn't mean to hurt anyone."

"Hmph. That's what they all say."

Undyne hurled a spear—and the battle began.

POV: Frisk

You moved without thinking. Blue spears rained from every direction. You ducked. Slid. Dodged by inches. She was relentless—each attack sharper than the last.

"I won't let you hurt anyone else!" she shouted, rushing with terrifying speed.

You didn't fight back. You couldn't. Not like that.

Your SOUL pulsed red with the rhythm of the fight. Each round felt more like a test of heart than strength.

"I can't lose!" Undyne cried. "Not to someone who won't even fight!"

You dodged again. Then, during a lull, you whispered, "I'm not your enemy."

She froze for a breath.

Then came the final wave.

POV: Sans

Kid moved like they had death's number. It wasn't just reflex—it was rehearsed. Not in a way that said they'd done it before... but in a way that said they'd learned.

From pain.

They hadn't reset. Not once. But they'd come back—again and again. Respawned at that last SAVE point.

Over and over.

It showed.

And it bugged me. Not 'cause they were doing anything wrong. Just… it didn't feel fair. Like the underground had stacked the deck, and the kid was playing with house odds.

Undyne fell to one knee, panting.

Frisk stepped forward… and offered mercy.

Undyne's eyes widened.

"You… you really aren't here to kill us," she breathed.

Frisk nodded.

Undyne collapsed backward with a half-laugh. "Heh. Guess I lost. But don't think this means I trust you."

Frisk smiled. "I understand."

---

Later…

I stepped out once the kid had passed.

Undyne gave me a sideways look. "You watching the whole time?"

"Yeah. Was a spear-itual experience," I shrugged.

She groaned. "Sans."

"I mean, c'mon, Undyne. The kid spared you. That's gotta mean something."

"Maybe." She looked up at the sky that wasn't there. "They're weird. But… maybe good."

I watched Frisk vanish into the distance.

We'd all see, soon enough.
