Chapter 1 - A new world

A young man is seen packing his stuff in what looks like a dormitory. The room is cluttered with tapes, DVDs and a few cameras. A good look around the room gives the conclusion of the room owner being someone who's hobby is either very twisted or someone is involved in the entertainment industry, not that there's much that differentiates both.

POV-

My name is Bethel Adams, 22 years old and just fresh out of uni, well young and optimistic as they come. I studied film production in the University of Southern Tingen, a prestigious university which has one of the best film production courses in the country. It's filthy expensive but prestigious nonetheless.

Now like all the young graduates, I have dreams of making it big in Hollywood. The only difference being I'm reborn, like all my fellow transmigratory, nothing crazy, just a simple situation that totally didn't freak me out since this is a totally different world with a different history.

Putting all the crazy transmigration aside, it's been 22 years since I came to this world, 15 years since I remembered my past life, so like any other normal guy, I wanted to leave a mark in this world. Maybe get rich and have a ton of fun while at it. Pretty cliche, I know, but hey who's judging?

Although I already was part of the entertainment industry in my past life and pretty successful too, it felt.... stifling. You know, the whole big studios monopolizing the distribution channels, commercial movies lacking any creativity due to greedy execs and stars who were in over their heads with their ego trips. That life can get exhausting real soon. Too late to be part of the great hollywood age, too early for the inevitable reshuffle that'd happen in a couple of years.

This world's different, atleast hollywood is. Humans live longer here, 250-300 years is the average life expectancy. No supernatural stuff, just plain old evolution on a completely different planet, I checked. Was bummed out about the no supernatural part, would've been very exciting. Though the direct consequence of humans living longer is everything lasts longer, glory, hatred, customs, the whole schebang. Hollywood too, is very conservative or more like, the old bastards still alive just want to relive their golden days.

Now, the country the current hollywood is in, Novath is this world's America, although with a longer history and less bloody history. Because the country is made up of natives and have a ton of culture and great resources, they love to flaunt it, I mean like really badly. As you can imagine, hollywood is, for the lack of a better word, conservative, meaning they love their historical biographies, war themed movies and virtuous preaching literary movies. No kidding, commercial movies are sort of rare, because old folks live longer, they just cannot stomach anything that goes against the norm.

Again it's 2003, the technology is great, similar to our 2020s, but no streaming platforms, internet is underutilized, TVs and newspapers are still a thing that holds relevance and smartphones are just being brought out. Special effects are good, since George puskas made Galaxy wars in 2017. Even though it was successful and has a cult following, it doesn't reach the same level of worship my past life did. I mean to figure, this world has immense demand for storytelling and George, well he isn't the best when it comes to that. But it did open up special effects being used as a main theme rather than auxiliary all these years.

I mean there are some great movies, and hollywood is still the best place for filmmakers but it isn't as dominant as it could be. Countries like Frans send United Kingdom still make good movies and have held on to their markets well. And there's Ming, which is the most populated country in the world, with it's budding film industry and Bharath, which is completely exclusive with their film industry with the second highest population. I mean this is a great era for me to leave a mark, so I'm not complaining.

Aaanywayyyy, even though I have a lot of experience, I need to be mindful of the culture and habits of the people of this world. So I spent my youth completely absorbing everything the world has to offer, which brings us to now. Graduation done, multiple internships in film sets and studios, done. Although it's going to be tricky navigating this industry, I'm hopeful about my chances.

This is my story, and how I leave my mark on this world. Though, I need to stop daydreaming like this, is this side effect of being reborn, I wonder.
