Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Elusive Increment

Henry found himself in a constant state of preoccupation, his mind fixated on the enigmatic 3%. The question of how to nudge it up to 4% haunted his every waking moment. He continued to experiment with various methods, each day hoping that this would be the breakthrough he had been longing for.

In his attempts to understand the nature of this percentage, he would often close his eyes and try to visualize the number in his mind. On one such occasion, as he sat in the quiet corner of his room, he focused intently on the 3%. His breathing became slow and steady, and his mind entered a state of deep concentration. He strained his mental eye, trying to discern if there was more to the number than met the eye. Was there a hidden decimal point or a comma lurking behind the 3, indicating a more precise value?

As he probed deeper into his mental image of the number, he thought he saw a faint glimmer of something. It was as if a thin, almost imperceptible line hovered just behind the 3. His heart skipped a beat with excitement. Could this be the clue he had been searching for? He tried to focus even harder, but the more he concentrated, the more the image seemed to blur. The line disappeared, leaving him frustrated and confused.

Determined not to be discouraged, Henry decided to take a different approach. He began to explore the idea of mind - body connection. He remembered reading about how physical exercise could enhance cognitive function, so he started going for long runs in the park every morning. The fresh air and the rhythmic pounding of his feet on the ground invigorated him. As he ran, he would let his mind wander, thinking about the concepts he had been studying and how they might relate to his goal of increasing the percentage.

After each run, he would return home and engage in a session of intense study. He noticed that his mind seemed more alert and focused after physical activity. He was able to absorb information more quickly and make connections that he might have missed before. But despite these improvements, there was still no sign of the 3% increasing.

He also started to pay more attention to his diet, believing that proper nutrition might play a role in optimizing his brain function. He cut out junk food and replaced it with fruits, vegetables, and nuts. He drank plenty of water and green tea, which he had read were good for the brain. He even started taking supplements like omega - 3 fatty acids and vitamin B complex.

One day, as he was sitting at his desk, poring over a difficult physics problem, he felt a strange sensation. It was as if a light bulb had gone off in his head. He suddenly saw a new way to approach the problem, a solution that had been eluding him for days. In that moment of clarity, he thought he felt a slight shift in his mind. He quickly closed his eyes and focused on the 3%. To his amazement, he thought he saw the number tremble slightly, and for a brief second, it seemed to change.

His heart raced with anticipation. Had the number increased? Was it now 4%? But when he opened his eyes and tried to focus again, the number was back to 3%, as if the brief change had been a figment of his imagination. Disappointed but not defeated, Henry knew that he was on the right track. He just needed to keep exploring, keep experimenting, and keep pushing the boundaries of his mind. The journey to increase the 3% was far from over, and he was determined to uncover the secrets that would lead him to the next level of his brain's potential.

For days on end, Henry had been in a self - imposed trance, his mind constantly fixated on the mysterious number that haunted his thoughts. Each morning, he would wake up with a sense of anticipation, immediately closing his eyes to focus on the 3% that seemed to be etched in his mind's eye. The routine had become almost meditative, a desperate search for any sign of change.

This particular morning, as the first rays of sunlight peeked through the gaps in his curtains, casting a soft, golden glow over his room, Henry lay in bed, his eyes tightly shut. He took slow, deep breaths, trying to calm his racing heart and clear his mind. With each inhalation, he visualized his mind as a vast, open space, and with each exhalation, he pushed away any distractions.

He began to focus intently on the number 3%. At first, it was the same as always - a bold, unchanging figure. But as he continued to concentrate, his forehead creasing with the effort, something started to shift. A faint, almost imperceptible line began to form just behind the 3, and his heart skipped a beat. His eyes fluttered open in surprise, but he quickly shut them again, afraid that the momentary distraction would make the phenomenon disappear.

When he refocused, the line became clearer, and he realized with a jolt of excitement that it was a comma. And following the comma, numbers started to materialize - 15. His eyes snapped open wide, and he sat up in bed, his breathing heavy. "3.15%," he whispered to himself, his voice filled with a mix of shock and disbelief.

He stared blankly at the wall in front of him, his mind racing. "What is this 0.15? So since the accident at that time until now it has only gone up by 0.15?" he muttered, his words laced with a tinge of disappointment. After all the hours of study, the experiments with different learning techniques, the physical exercise, and the dietary changes, he had expected a more significant increase.

The realization hit him hard. He had been so sure that he was on the verge of a major breakthrough, that he would quickly unlock the secrets of his enhanced brain. But this tiny increment made him question everything. Had he been overestimating his progress? Were the methods he was using ineffective? Or was this increase actually more significant than it seemed?

As he sat there, lost in thought, the weight of the situation began to sink in. The room, which had felt cozy and familiar just moments ago, now seemed suffocating. The ticking of the clock on his bedside table grew louder, each tick a reminder of the time he had spent chasing this elusive goal.

He got out of bed and paced the room, his hands running through his hair in frustration. He thought about all the sacrifices he had made - the time he had missed with his friends, the hobbies he had neglected, all in the pursuit of understanding and increasing this percentage. And yet, the result seemed so minimal.

But as the initial shock and disappointment began to fade, a new sense of determination welled up inside him. This small increase, no matter how insignificant it seemed, was still a change. It was proof that his theories were not entirely wrong, that there was a way to unlock more of his brain's potential.

He sat down at his desk, which was cluttered with books, notebooks filled with his scribbles, and research papers. He picked up a pen and started to write, jotting down his thoughts and ideas. He needed to analyze this new development, to figure out what it meant and how he could build on it.

As he wrote, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held. If 0.15% was the result of all his efforts so far, how much more work would it take to reach 4%? And what would happen when he did? The questions swirled in his mind, but for the first time since the revelation, there was a glimmer of hope.
