Cherreads

Chapter 55 - .55

The white bedsheet was in disarray, and Danielle rubbed her sore waist before angrily hitting Zachary.

"You bastard."

Zachary immediately pulled her into his arms and started massaging her.

"Don't blame me, you were the one who started it."

"You..."

Danielle gritted her teeth and bit her hand. "You're so useless."

Seeing her childish actions, Zachary's lips curved into a bigger smile.

Just as he was about to say something, the door to the room suddenly opened.

Danielle instinctively hid in his embrace, and Zachary quickly used the blanket to cover both of them.

"Is there something wrong?"

The assistant who entered was taken aback by the sight before him, his face turning slightly red as his eyes kept glancing at the clothes scattered on the floor.

"Um, the instruments show the patient is fine now. If you don't wish to discharge, you'll need to continue paying. If you choose to leave, please do so before the afternoon."

Without a second thought, Zachary nodded. "We'll leave now."

When the assistant didn't leave right away, Zachary furrowed his brows. "Is there something else?"

"No, no."

After the assistant left, Danielle immediately pushed Zachary away.

"See? It's all your fault."

She had clearly seen the shocked and incredulous expression of the assistant earlier.

What an embarrassment.

She got up with long legs, but it only made the situation more awkward as she felt a coolness traveling down.

Danielle didn't need to look to know what it was. She screamed and quickly grabbed the clothes on the floor and rushed into the bathroom.

Zachary smiled with amusement and got up calmly.

"Sweetheart, you picked up my clothes."

Hearing Danielle's frustrated voice from inside, he chuckled and passed her clothes through the bathroom door.

Enough teasing.

If he kept it up, he might not get any more tonight.

Zachary knew well when to stop for his own benefit.

When Danielle finally cleaned herself up and walked out, her gaze instinctively fell on the floor.

She didn't expect the floor to be so clean, and then saw Zachary holding a piece of toilet paper in his hand.

Her face turned red again, and she glared at him angrily before turning to leave without saying a word.

Zachary scratched his nose, realizing he had probably gone a bit too far earlier.

"Sweetheart, sweetheart, how about I accompany you shopping?"

Zachary hugged Danielle, who was struggling like a stubborn mule, and patiently tried to coax her.

Danielle rolled her eyes. "Did you forget something?"

Zachary froze for a moment, and Danielle thought he had remembered, but before she could speak, Zachary shook his head in confusion.

"I didn't forget anything. I don't remember."

Danielle's patience snapped. She grabbed his ear and twisted it.

"Rain, Rain! Don't you know, both of us disappearing like that almost scared him half to death?"

Zachary awkwardly twitched his lips. "That shouldn't be the case."

"Hmph."

Danielle glared at him, still furious.

She just couldn't understand how a man who cared so much about his son before could forget about him now.

Zachary gave a smile to please her. "I was just trying to cheer up Rain's mom."

"You don't need to. Let's go home quickly. I miss Rain."

"Okay, we'll go home now."

Zachary hugged Danielle and, with a few quick movements, they teleported back to the Duo family home.

Fei Yang was in the living room, trying to entertain the two children when he suddenly saw the two figures appear. He was so startled that he screamed.

"Mom, Leng!"

Leng rushed out with a kitchen knife, nervous. When she saw it was Danielle and Zachary, she immediately became excited.

She tossed the knife aside and happily lunged toward Danielle.

"You've finally come back!"

Danielle pushed Zachary away and hugged Leng. "I'm back. You've worked hard these past two days."

Rain stood there stunned for a moment, then suddenly burst into tears.

"Mama, Papa, wah wah wah! I thought you didn't want me anymore."

Zachary felt a wave of guilt rise in his heart. He quickly stepped forward and hugged Rain.

"Don't be scared, Rain. Mama and Papa were just a bit late because of some things. We would never abandon you."

The little one was clearly frightened and cried nonstop in Zachary's arms.

Fei Yang finally looked away from the kitchen knife and shouted in disbelief.

"Leng, what do you mean by this?"

His voice was filled with lingering panic.

The others turned around and smiled brightly.

Just then, the kitchen knife Leng had carelessly tossed earlier was now standing upright on the floor, just a few centimeters from Fei Yang's little brother. His pants were pinned to the ground, and Fei Yang's face went pale.

"Leng, if you have an issue with me, just say it. Don't sneak attack me from behind."

Leng blushed and awkwardly walked over.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

Fei Yang muttered, "Good thing you weren't paying attention. If you had, I would have to call you 'sister' now."

Excitedly, he went to hug Danielle, but was blocked halfway by Zachary.

"What are you doing? I'm just giving your wife a hug. Don't be so stingy."

Ha ha.

Danielle and Leng laughed happily.

Leng opened her mouth to say something, but suddenly a loud rumble interrupted her words.

The ground shook violently for a moment, and if Zachary hadn't grabbed her, Danielle almost sat down on the ground.

Danielle looked around, confused. "What's going on? Is this an earthquake?"

Leng also looked around in fear. "That can't be right. I've never heard of an earthquake happening in the Pure Land."

As they were guessing, the bracelet on their wrists suddenly started vibrating wildly.

Danielle looked down. "Something's really happening."

Otherwise, everyone's bracelets wouldn't be vibrating like this. When she activated it, a message with bright red characters appeared in the air.

"Stop the protective barrier's rupture! All talent teams, please rush to the outer zone immediately and help prevent beasts from entering the Pure Land through the break."

The group exchanged glances. Fei Yang, being young, was especially shaken, his lips turning pale.

"What do we do now?"

He didn't want to appear too panicked, as there were younger kids at home.

Rain tightly clung to Zachary's neck, not saying a word, while Fei Qingqing's eyes welled up with tears.

Danielle looked at Zachary, and he shook his head.

"Trust me. Everything will be fine."

"Darling, how much money do you have left?"

Danielle was puzzled by his question but obediently checked her balance.

"I have a little over 20 million."

Zachary nodded. "Good, we won't go to the outer zone just yet. Let's upgrade our weapons first."

"Let's go to the weapon shop."

Fei Yang and Leng readily agreed. After all, money was secondary; if they didn't survive, what would money matter?

However, when they arrived at the weapon shop, the situation got awkward.

They didn't expect upgraded weapons to be so expensive. Although they looked the same, the price was outrageous.

Even with the several hundred thousand from the compensation from the Jin family, it wasn't enough.

In the end, Danielle lent them some money, and they barely gathered a million.

Danielle looked at the newly acquired black longsword and sighed, "It doesn't look any different, so why is it so expensive?"

After buying four swords, she was now a penniless person without any savings.
