Chapter 4 - First Cultivation

Lingxu instantly locked on Spectre when he saw it. There was something that pulled him towards it 'Being a ghost… isn't this OP in this cultivation world? The only disadvantage is that one will probably have to give up their body.

Lords sounds like something one could do as a spectre anyways. A ghost army sounds nice, but in the world of cultivation, quality stands above quantity. If there were numerous strong ghosts in this world… then the netherworld had to be in shatters. Since that is not the case, there shouldn't be too many ghosts.

Cultivating one or two will be fine, but if you want many, then you have to kill people… well, obviously the ancestor failed in this regard, so I won't take it.

Hunters are also more eligible for when there are many ghosts, else they will just be specialist for a niche, which will be arduous… if I lived in the southern continent, it would be great, since there are more demon cultivators and many southern tribes cultivate ghosts, but this is not he case here, so taking that isn't the best choice.'

After contemplating about it, he decided that his initial choice was correct, so he checked out the information about the different cultivation arts of spectres.

For spectres, there are two paths – giving up your body and keeping it. He looked into it and saw that giving up the body had several arts, which would direct which kind of spectre one would be, such as Five Element Spectre, Thunder, Ice, Gold Spectre, Bagua Spectre, Sound Spectre, Sword Spectre…

'This path is basically just like how a cultivator choses different paths… well, it really deserved being called the cultivators of the nether world'

Then he looked at the path of keeping the body – which he preferred – and saw that there were very few arts. Among them one either required a special physique, spiritual root or one had to be willing to cultivate different arts at the same time to slowly mutate the body.

He was about to stop when he saw a special art – Spectre Embryo technique. He read the introduction and didn't know whether to cry or laugh. Cultivating this art will create a spectre embryo which will become the core of the soul and body. One is then able to switch between being a spectre and being a human, like a switch.

Although there is still the problem that spectre is too yin and the human is not yang enough, at least there won't be huge complications, one will only have a slightly weaker body and lose the qualifications to cultivate the physical body, something Lingxu didn't care about.

This art was actually more of a third path of keeping the body while also being a spectre that can cultivate different arts. One can cultivate two arts at the same time even, one for the body and one for the soul, as long as they are balanced, one can advance very fast.

The reason why Lingxu didn't know whether to cry or laugh is because to cultivate this art, one needs a very special resource 'The soul of both parents… no wonder being a ghost is unsuitable for clans. The best path requires you to kill both your parents, how could a cultivator not want to take the best path?'

As he thought of this, he looked at a light spot in his sea of conscious.

This was the remaining soul of his mother, which she seemed to have kept exactly for this situation.

'The piece of soul has to be fully independent and no other connections, if one doesn't kill the owner of the soul, then this would be very difficult. It seems the clan found different ways to circumvent this, but after all, combined with their bad karma, they still lost the way.'

He was very happy suddenly 'Yulong oh Yulong… maybe this is the revenge mother prepared for you. Haha! In the end, you mistreated her and me, and now I have to kill you, isn't this ironical?'

After saying this, he instantly sat down, looking at the shining moon above him. Only a moment passed outside, but he felt like several hours passed in his mind.

'Well, Mo Yue means Evil Moon. Cultivating when the moon shines is the best moment, because the moon is a kind of extreme yin, although not ghost yin, it still creates a good environment for cultivating yin arts.'

Then he started cultivating. This was his first step so he was very careful.

He closed his eyes, the yaksha mask he wore in his sea of conscious materialised on his face like an illusion, helping him gather the yin energy between heaven and earth. Spiritual power is the carrier of all elements, it is the purest kind of energy and when a special environment is created, it will directly transform into that kind of energy.

The body of a cultivator is one such environment – they pull spiritual power and transform it with the help of their cultivation arts into a special kind of energy. Although the purity of spiritual power is the best, in fact, pure spiritual power is something only basic cultivation arts absorb, because the attribute-less spiritual power lacks any speciality, it is like raw electricity.

Electricity itself only powers things, but when heating something, then thermic energy is more efficient and effective.

Tiny particles of a blue-ish white colour gathered and entered Lingxu's body through his breathing, following his meridians all the way to the lower dantian below his navel.

Lingxu continued to gather the power.

A long time passed, just when the moon passed the brightest time, he finally opened his eyes. They shined with a bright lustre, like two turquoise moons.

'Are these impurities?' he asked himself as he looked at the small dark spots on his body, then shook his head 'Yin arts focus the soul, so rather than the body being cleaned, it is the soul that becomes purer. I feel like my mind became clearer, as if I could think a thousand thoughts more…'

He smiled.

'Am I now also a cultivator? Hahaha!' as he gathered spiritual power into his lower dantian, opening it, he officially became a cultivator 'It's true that the younger you start, the easier it is. All my meridians are basically open, just a little bit clogged, but still passable. If I waited that half a year, then I would probably need more time clearing the meridians before I could cultivate.

Well, my talent is also good, being able to gather spiritual power so fast!'

The spiritual power he gathered came from the qi-inducing art among the inheritance. The real spectre-embryo art couldn't be cultivated just like this.

Most qi-inducing arts have the same effect, some just gather a specific type of spiritual power into the body. If one starts with that type of spiritual power from the start, then the purity will have a great foundation, though this doesn't change much.

The basic qi-inducing art gathers a pure spiritual power, which can then be changed, laying the foundation for that kind of art. It's only a little bit more work.

'Well, I induced the Yin spiritual power into my body, since the spectre embryo art will enable me to cultivate a spectre art and a normal art, my normal art should also be yin-oriented…'
