Alexander's POV
She froze, not kissing me.
Before I knew it, she shoved me back and slapped me hard across my face.
"How dare you…"
The slap stung on my cheeks. My drunken state couldn't put it together, and then I heard a voice. The manager was here.
"Is there a problem?" He asked, looking at the girl, then diverted his eyes to me. His eyes widened in shock and realization.
"You're fired," he told her.
"What…but he—" He cut her off.
"You heard me, pack your things and get out," he told her.
She was angry, muttering a few words before picking up her things to leave. After she left, the manager apologized for her rude behavior, letting me know the drinks were on them.
I blinked, not fully understanding what I did in my drunken state. But I was amused.
I woke up with a hangover. My head ached so badly, and my face hurt. My clothes were on the floor, and my room looked like hell.
My vision was blurry. I called a maid to get me a glass of water. I remembered drinks, frustration... then the waitress. I got up; my memory sharpened, remembering what happened. She slapped me, and not just a girl, a server, a common waitress.
I never imagined someone would have the audacity to lay their hands on me but she spiked my interest. She's lucky I was drunk.
I needed to know who she was, though. I was curious. She acted differently from what I expected. She stood up for herself.
Very interesting.
I got to the office earlier than usual. Immediately my workers saw me; they stiffened and stopped gossiping. All greeting me while avoiding eye contact. I was not interested in their greetings.
"Victor," I called through the intercom.
Victor arrived in less than a minute. He knew I hated waiting and wouldn't tolerate it, especially from him. Victor has been my loyal assistant, even working for my dad before he abandoned the company. Victor helped us restore the company, and because of that, he was the only one I had respect for, but I was still his boss.
"I need you to go to the address of this bar. Ask about the girl that was fired. I need to know everything about her." I was direct, handing him the paper with the address.
"Okay, sir," Victor answered, taking his leave.
An hour later, he returned with a report.
"Her name is Elena Carter. She lives with her mother and younger brother. Her mum suffers from a long-term illness called hemolytic anemia, a rare blood disease. She works two part-time jobs to pay her mother's hospital bills and her brother's schooling. She got fired from the restaurant yesterday, and her mom recently got discharged from St. Vincent's Hospital because of incomplete hospital bills."
"She doesn't have the money to pay the bills." That caught my attention.
"Yes, sir."
I leaned back in my chair, trying to process what Victor just told me. A thought came to my head. She needed money to pay her mom's medical bills, and I needed a wife to get my mother off my back.
I smirked; I had an idea.
I asked Victor to get me her number while I sent my receptionist to draft a contract for me. A marriage contract.
After Victor gave me the number. I called her. She answered after the second ring.
"Hello, am I speaking to Elena Carter?"
There was a pause first before she answered, unsure if she should. "Yes…"
"Okay, my name is Alexander Sterling. The guy that got you fired at the bar yesterday. I have a proposal for you. Where are you so I can send a car to pick you up"?
She scoffed, "What…and why would I want to meet up with you after making me lose my job?".
I expected that. "It's concerning your mother's medical bills. I have a solution to that".
There was silence for a while before she spoke. "How did you know about my mother?"
"I will send a car to pick you up. I will explain when you get here. Where are you right now?.
"Alright, I'm at St. Vincent's Hospital.".
"Okay, my driver will be there soon." I ended the call.
"Victor, I need you to send a driver to pick her up and then escort her to meet me." I dismissed him.
As he left, I just smiled to myself. This was just the beginni
ng. Now my mother will get off my back.
