Chapter 52 - PART FORTY-THREE

Mr. Gentus has a proclivity to flight, with his wings at least he always felt he was meant to fly and was quick to understand that strengthening his Blessed control, he could fill his wings and grant them a certain amount of mobility; his wing aren't perfect and can only be maintained for a max of 5 minutes.

"Hmm."

Mr. Gentus sounds genuinely impressed, backing off of him for now. Feeling his power lessened after letting his wings back down, Mr. Gentus slowly lowers himself to the earth. Mr. Verim follows closely behind, keeping his power surging into his legs just in case Gentus tries anything funny.

The classes funnel beneath them, but too quickly they all realize they're falling towards another enormous danger. Mason's sword stays alight in a dangerous blaze.

"Hyaaaagh!!"

Mason cries out, feeling the intense burns crawl up his arm now, long past being able to let go of the perilous weapon. The heat sears into his flesh and grows inside of his arm. Mason can barely feel it, but the power lets him continue to agonize as the sensation cracks up through the bone.

Slowly getting in closer, the class watches as Verim and Gentus land to his sides.

"Look what you've done."

Mr. Gentus mocks Mr. Verim, wearing a cheeky smile. The Blessed class looks on in anger that this man can be laughing at such a time.

"Just-"

Mr. Verim stops himself, worried he'll curse out the man too heavily for children's ears.

"Hffffffff. Just cancel his magic out already."

Mr. Verim speaks quickly through his teeth, gritting them tightly at the angering and completely frustrating Mr. Gentus.

"Cancel?"

The students question collectively, tilting heads and leaning closer to hear correctly.

"Sam?"

Melody nudges his arm, assured that he must know something about it.

"Uh... Hold on."

Sam quickly claws through his bag to find a notebook, a different one from what he wrote in earlier. The lines inside this one, that Melody can see, are filled with notes and drawings. Thumbing through a few pages slower now, Sam finds the entry he desperately sought.

"Cancellation, or Abolition, is an advanced technique used by equalling the exact amount of one's output energy with your own- when the two balanced forces collide, an event occurs that powerfully extinguishes both energy outputs."

Mr. Verim patiently lets Sam finish, throwing himself in front of his class and finishing for him.

"Yes, Cancelling someone's magic is possible, but only safely through using the same type of magic, meaning that only a Blessed should try to handle abolishing another Blessed's attack."

Mr. Gentus reaches into Mason's space and holds him at his back. Mason doesn't feel anything outside of the intense flame. Mr. Gentus' grip falters in a few moments as he's trying to find a safe source point in his body. Feeling around Mason's back, his tensing muscles and heavy breathing shift his center around quickly, making Mr. Gentus' job all the harder.

"If you need a likewise power, how is he going to stop this?"

Melody worriedly calls out to Mr. Verim from behind him. Mr. Gentus has just shown without any doubt that he is a powerful Blessed and that his power shouldn't work to help Mason cancel this strange eruption of power.

Mr. Gentus can hear Melody's plea through the whipping flames around him, chuckling as he fights to find Mason's core. Letting the world fade away, Gentus speaks directly into Mason's mind now. Falling into a dark space with the boy, Mr. Gentus walks forward to a huddled Mason.

"Mason…"

Mr. Gentus steps forward, alight by a beam above him.

"Who are you…"

Mason's voice reaches Mr. Gentus, but only barely. His weak call loses volume through his covering knees. Mason looks up after a short while.

"I'm here to help you…"

Mr. Gentus slowly steps forward again, keeping his hands at his sides.

"Help me…?"

Mason shivers. His breath looks to fog the air around himself, and as Mr. Gentus reaches to touch the young boy's shoulder, he too evaporates into the mist and leaves Mr. Gentus leaned forward with an empty fist.

"You did this to me…"

The voice calls out louder and deeper than a moment ago as it drips from the walls that can't be seen.

"Angel!"

A different, yet familiar voice screams at Gentus. Showering him with violent vibrations and tremors.

Mr. Gentus' intention in sliding into Mason's mind was to abruptly anger Mason to another level, exposing his anger into another explosion of fury, thereby locking his focused power into one spot; unknowingly, Mason's mind was afraid and attacked him all the same, granting him the same net result.

Mr. Gentus is thrown free of Mason's mind, locked into his power's core at his back, holding him with his palm flat.

Mason, unaware of the world around him screams more and more. His eyes shine through the flames, ghostly white. Mason's screams match the intense screeching steam that's cast into the sky above them. The classes of both Cursed and Blessed students await either a violent eruption of his power, or the example set out by Sam and Mr. Verim, with sweaty anticipation.

Mr. Gentus apologizes to Mason on deafened ears and raises his Blessed power to its limits, quickly feeling out which palace to stop at to fine-tune his ability to Mason's own. Hitting his limit with haste, Mr. Gentus gasps reluctantly with humor.

"You're kidding…"

He quietly relents, gripping onto Mason's back that he's currently surging all of his power into.

"What is it?"

Mr. Verim notices the link in their minds open up shallowly.

"I knew I threw a lot at you… but to not be able to match this boy…?"

Mr. Gentus strains as he answers, not finishing his words.
