Chapter 36 - Harbinger of Death

Alaric was now on his way over to Harbinger Real Estate.

The information worker seemed to have profiled him well, as this place looked perfect for him. It wasn't in the central commercial area, instead it was in a random floor of a random building.

It was somewhat near the commercial district, but it wasn't in the area that was extremely expensive. It was likely not the most successful business.

Alaric neared the location. He had already set out walking towards it, rat on shoulder.

He had no concerns as to rats not being allowed inside of the store.

Alaric eventually arrived at the building he was looking for. It was about a twenty minute walk from the Wolf Slayer Guild.

It was in a tall wooden building. The face was ordinary, and its stretched up four floors. It looked about average. The outside was brown. There were sparse windows on each floor. It didn't look overly decrepit, but there were some vines growing along the side of the building. There was a place for letters at the front that showed all of the businesses inside.

"Smith's silk and more silk emporium" 1st floor

"Harbinger real estate" 2nd floor

"Taylor's tailor" 3rd floor

"Place where paper is sold" 4th floor

These businesses were clearly not the most high end luxury businesses. They were just middling businesses that were likely owned by families. This was what Alaric was looking for. Eventually he would need to venture into the more expensive businesses, but for now he settled for this.

Alaric entered through the front door and was confronted by a staircase. This was not much of a confrontation, Alaric did know how to go up a staircase. Despite this knowledge being ingrained inside Alaric, he might have moderate difficulty due to his injuries.

Alaric eventually made it up to the second floor.

There was a door that said "Harbinger real estate" in green paint on a wooden door. It was sloppily done, and the characters were messy and unrefined. This brought a smile to Alaric's face.

This could mean one of two things about the business. They were either desperate for business, and would accept really any amount of money for their service, or, they would be exploitative of people who didn't have a lot of money and would turn to them as a last resort.

Alaric hoped that it would be the former.

Alaric opened the door to the business, preparing to spend money. He had 370 charred with him for this, and he wanted to spend it.

Ding

There was a bell on the other side of the door that rang when Alaric had opened it.

"There's always a bell. There's always a bell." Alaric contemplated the bell for exactly one second before entering the room.

"How are ya!" "How are ya!" Immidiately two people both entered his field of vision greeting him in unison.

They were two people, one female the other male. They were both wearing grey suits with black ties. The man was well built, being about five feet eleven inches tall. He had short black hair, and was wearing glasses. He estimated him to be about thirty.

The woman was similar. She had an average build with a bob cut, and a matching suit. They were wearing matching suits, so they wern't visually that different. She had more of a collected nature, while the man seemed to be more outgoing.

"We're the harbinger twins." Both of them reached out their hands for Alaric to shake.

Not wanting to choose a favorite, he shook both of their hands at once, grasping their hand with the corresponding hand that he had.

One of them was right handed and the other left handed so it was quite convinient.

"I'm Simon and this is Sandra." The man introduced the two of them.

"Are you looking for real estate?" Simon asked Alaric.

"Yeah." Alaric answered plainly.

"You're in luck. We have plenty." The man quickly ushered Alaric over to a seat in front of his desk.

While this was happening, Sandra was getting documents together and writing something down.

"What are you looking for? House? Apartment? Just land? Farmland?" The man asked eagerly.

"I'm looking for a house. Nothing huge though." Alaric answered.

"Alright. Just lay out for me what exactly you are looking for, and then I can give you some options." Simon said.

"I need something close to the ocean. I'm a fisherman so I need somewhere to put my boat. I live by myself, so I don't need a lot of space. I spend most of my time outside so I'm not looking for much in terms of a house. Just need some storage and a bed." Alaric answered.

Simon quickly noted some things down.

"Any preferences about location?" He returned to questioning.

"No. Wherevers cheapest. I mean it. I'm fine with a dangerous and secluded location. I don't need people around me." Alaric said confidently. He realized this made him sound like a serial killer.

"Suit yourself." Simon wrote another thing down.

"And what's our budget looking like?" Simon asked earnestly.

"Tight. Very tight. I've got about 370 charred to spend." Alaric answered. This is where the biggest hangup would be with his operation.

"Alright, well you're not going to have very many options I can tell you that. But let me see what I can dig up. Wait here a sec." Simon said, standing up. The office was filled with files with papers inside of them.

He seemed to know where he was looking. He went through a couple folders, taking out a few pieces of paper, and then returned to the desk.

"Alright. I've got some things for you here. Some may be a little out of your budget, but there's room for negotiation. You can always get a loan as well." Simon said, organizing the papers. He tapped them on the wooden desk to get them all straight.

Alaric now was faced with the descision of which shitty house to buy.
