By now, Lin Yu fully understood that the real world wasn't as simple as a game. You couldn't just walk away from a corporation. Even if you survived, you'd be lucky to escape with your skin.
Jackie was about to say something but caught Lin Yu's look. Their silent understanding needed no words.
Even though he didn't know exactly what was going on, Jackie followed behind Lin Yu without hesitation.
The agents noticed Jackie trailing them.
"We're here for V. This has nothing to do with you!"
One of the agents suddenly turned around and said coldly.
"Me? I'm not following you. Lizzy's Bar is huge—no harm in wandering around, right?"
Jackie shrugged and spread his hands casually.
One of the agents clearly grew angry but was quickly pulled back by his partner.
"The mission's done. No need to stir up extra trouble."
Even corporate operatives exercised caution in public places; starting a shootout wasn't ideal.
They exited through the back door and once again encountered the female bouncer from the Mox.
Seeing Lin Yu come out with two Arasaka agents, she started to say something, then wisely shut her mouth.
Even gangs thought twice before messing with corpo agents.
Behind the basketball court was a narrow alley, sparsely populated—the perfect place for an ambush.
"I'm just following orders. No one leaves the company so easily."
One of the agents said coldly.
As he spoke, he pulled out a gun, aiming it at Lin Yu's head.
Meanwhile, the other agent turned and aimed at Jackie—if he insisted on getting involved, he'd be eliminated too.
But at that very moment, Lin Yu suddenly turned around.
The mantis blades on his arms snapped out, and with a flurry of rapid strikes—
Bang!
Before the agent could fire, Lin Yu had already sliced his gun clean in half!
The agent's eyes widened in shock, but before he could react, his body was also cleaved cleanly in two.
Without any hesitation, Lin Yu turned and struck down the second agent as well.
Jackie, gripping his pistol, stood frozen, staring at Lin Yu. He hadn't even had time to react.
He knew the corpo agents meant no good—that's why he had come along.
But he hadn't expected that before he could even draw his weapon, both agents would already be dead.
"Holy shit, V! When did you get this badass? Those were Arasaka agents—not some dumb CitySec rent-a-cops!"
Jackie stared at the mangled corpses on the ground in disbelief.
"With this baby, it's no problem."
Lin Yu chuckled lightly, wiping the blood from his mantis blades on one of the agents' clothes.
His first real use of the blades at the basketball court had already given him a sense of their power, which was why he dared take this risk.
"Damn... Mantis Blades—top-shelf gear, man! V, where the hell did you score something like this?"
Jackie finally snapped out of it, his face lighting up with unconcealed excitement.
Of course, he knew what Mantis Blades were—top-tier cyberware manufactured by Arasaka, each unit incredibly valuable and assigned an independent serial number that could be tracked.
Using Arasaka's own weapon to kill their agents? Now that was ironic.
And badass.
"Picked it up during a corp mission."
Lin Yu said casually. Naturally, he wasn't about to reveal that it had come from the system's daily sign-in rewards. That was a secret he intended to keep to himself—even from his blood brother, Jackie.
Jackie didn't know much about Lin Yu's dealings inside the company, so he didn't press for details. He just looked at the corpses on the ground, hesitating to speak.
"Jackie, I know what you're worried about. Relax—the signal transmitters have already been cut."
Lin Yu reassured him. Jackie was clearly concerned that killing corp agents would bring a world of trouble down on them.
In Night City, almost everyone's life signs and bio-data were constantly connected to the Net. Once someone died, it usually wouldn't be long before the authorities found out.
But Lin Yu had taken precautions. No need to worry about that.
Jackie didn't say much more. He simply grabbed Lin Yu and got them the hell out of there.
After leaving Lizzy's Bar, they bought a secondhand car and drove straight back to Watson.
That was where Jackie lived.
Thankfully, Lin Yu had moved the money out of his corporate account ahead of time—into Jackie's account, no less.
But even so, there wasn't much cash left.
"V... about what happened earlier... you sure you didn't act too rashly?"
Jackie gripped the steering wheel tightly, still shaken. After all, they had just killed corpo operatives.
In Night City, the corporations were an almighty force, beyond even nation-states. They were the true rulers of the city.
Whether it was street gangs or mercs like Jackie, no one tangled with the corps lightly.
Now Lin Yu wasn't just out of the company—he had blood on his hands. Jackie couldn't help worrying about retaliation.
The corps had ways of finding people, ways you couldn't even imagine.
"An eye for an eye. They came to kill us. That was enough reason for them to die."
Lin Yu said calmly. He wasn't worried about exposure. Those two weren't important figures.
"So... what's your plan now?"
Jackie, feeling the intensity in Lin Yu's words, decided not to argue anymore. Escaping the corporate leash could even be a blessing in disguise.
"The dragon slayer eventually becomes the dragon. I'm going to stand at the top of Night City."
