The sunlight was pouring into the room.
When Deniz opened his eyes, it was already past 10:00 a.m. He found himself lying on the floor.
Grabbing his neck, he grumbled:
"I think I've got a stiff neck..."
He slowly got up and cracked open the door. The house was wrapped in deep silence.
He went to the bathroom and washed his face. Neither his mother nor his father was there... The house was completely empty.
He stepped out onto the balcony and lit a cigarette. He took a deep drag of the smoke.
Too lazy to prepare breakfast, he ordered two smoked turkey sandwiches and a cup of filter coffee through his phone.
He sat back down at his computer, playing games, minding his own business.
When the delivery arrived, he grabbed his food and retreated back to his room.
While eating, he started a movie.
Just then, his phone started ringing. It was his mother.
At first, he ignored it, but as it kept ringing persistently, he eventually gave in and answered:
— What is it, Mom?
The woman's voice was filled with a mixture of hurt and anger:
— You're just like your father, so rude!
And then she hung up on him.
Deniz stared blankly at his phone.
"Is she crazy or what?" he muttered. "Did she call just to say that?"
Shrugging, he continued eating and watching his movie.
Then Rüzgar called. This time, Deniz picked up:
— What's up, bro?
— Just called to see what you were up to.
— I was eating.
— Enjoy your meal.
— Thanks.
After a brief pause, Deniz asked:
— Rüzgar!
— Yeah?
— Why did my mom call me?
— I don't know, I wasn't with her.
— Alright, whatever.
Just then, the door opened. His mother and father had returned home.
His father started yelling even before taking off his shoes.
Deniz retreated into his room, shut the door, and locked it.
He muttered to himself:
"He's still talking... Does he never run out of energy?"
This time, his mother said nothing.
His father kept shouting from the other room:
— Is this brat going to stay locked up in his room forever?!
— Get some fresh air, for God's sake! Your brain's rotting away in that stupid room!
But Deniz didn't hear a word.
As always, he had his headphones on, blasting music at full volume.
The four walls of his room were his whole world.
His entertainment, his escape, his life — everything was in there now.
He spent almost all his days in that room.
