Chapter 12 - Chapter 0012: The Benefits of Heart of Evil

The film "Push" never clearly specifies its timeline, but as Su Zhan strolled through the crowded streets of Hong Kong, he pondered his next move. With only twelve hours in this instance dungeon, he reasoned that the plot must have already started or was about to begin. In this world, three main factions were at play: one side was the protagonist Nick Grant and his allies; another was the Division, the shadowy organization experimenting on people with psychic abilities and sending agents to hunt them; and the third was the local Hong Kong triad, known as the "Vampire" family-a group of four with Push/special abilities. The father's power was unknown, the two older brothers could unleash deadly sonic attacks, and the youngest, Pop Girl (played by Li Xiaolu), was a Watcher-a prophet who could predict the future.

"My main quest is to obtain more than three abilities. There are plenty of powers in this world, so that won't be an issue," Su Zhan thought. "But with Watchers who can see the future, I need to be careful. If they foresee my existence, they could prepare countermeasures. The safest approach is to eliminate the prophet first and take her ability."

There were two Watchers in this world: Pop Girl, the triad's prophet, and Cassie Holmes, the young Watcher who teams up with Nick to rescue Kira and find the experimental drug. Cassie was currently seeking Nick's help, while Pop Girl was with her family, using her powers to keep them one step ahead.

"Who should I start with?" Su Zhan's lips curled into a wicked smile as he walked through the crowd, weighing his options.

Just then, from the corner of his eye, he spotted a man with a rough, ominous appearance-one of the two Bleeder brothers, the "sound wave" assassins. If one was here, the other couldn't be far.

Since I've run into you, I'll start with you, Su Zhan thought, his smile turning predatory as he walked straight toward the man.

"Excuse me, got a light?" Su Zhan asked, patting the Bleeder on the shoulder.

The Bleeder frowned, clearly uncomfortable with Su Zhan's presence.

"Oh, never mind. I forgot I have my own fire." Su Zhan smiled, flicking open Pyro John's lighter, the flame dancing. "Your little sister is a prophet, right? I wonder if she can see how you'll die."

"You-" The Bleeder's eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to unleash his sonic attack.

But before he could make a sound, Su Zhan controlled the lighter's flame and sent it straight into the man's mouth. The searing fire instantly scorched the Bleeder's throat, leaving him mute. Su Zhan grabbed him by the neck and dragged him into a nearby alley.

"Don't move, little darling. Be good, or I'll do more than just ruin your throat…" Su Zhan threatened quietly, shoving the man deeper into the shadows.

The Bleeder clutched his throat in agony, but Su Zhan was unmoved. "Maybe your little sister will sense your predicament and come to save you. I'll give you five minutes."

He waited, not bothering to do anything else. Five minutes felt both long and short, but they passed quickly.

"Too bad. Looks like she didn't see this coming. Well… you can rest easy now," Su Zhan said coldly.

He tightened his grip and activated his Devour ability. This time, it was surprisingly easy-he absorbed the Bleeder's sonic attack power without any resistance.

Strange. Maybe my Devour ability has grown stronger, or maybe it's the Heart of Evil at work, Su Zhan thought, savoring the smoothness of the process.

Eager to test his new ability, Su Zhan turned to the weakened Bleeder, opened his mouth, and unleashed a devastating sonic wave. The piercing sound shattered windows and glass all around, while the Bleeder writhed on the ground, clutching his ears in agony. Blood streamed from his ears, mouth, and eyes, and soon he lay still.

"Not a flashy power, but the destructive force is impressive," Su Zhan remarked with satisfaction. He left the alley and sat down at a nearby noodle stall, ordering a bowl and eating calmly as if nothing had happened.

He lingered, waiting for the others to appear. If one Bleeder was here, the rest of the family couldn't be far. The commotion he'd caused should have drawn their attention.

But as he finished his noodles, no one showed up. Su Zhan frowned. Were they not nearby, or did they somehow know what had happened? Perhaps Pop Girl, the prophet, had foreseen danger and decided to stay away. After all, Su Zhan was an outsider to this world, but the Bleeder was a plot character-she might have sensed his fate and chosen caution.

"Prophets really are troublesome," Su Zhan muttered, paying for his meal and leaving the shop. He recalled that in the film, Pop Girl's family wasn't always together, but Nick's family home was a key location. If he could find the protagonist, he could find Cassie Holmes-the other Watcher. Taking her power would make it easier to track and outmaneuver the rest.

Soon, Su Zhan arrived at the protagonist's apartment building and spotted two foreigners entering. They were agents from the Division, the secret organization hunting Nick and Cassie, and they possessed the "Sniff" ability-able to track people and objects by scent and psychic impression. Su Zhan decided to let them go for now; if he killed them, Cassie the Watcher would sense it.

After the agents left, as the plot dictated, Cassie would soon arrive to find Nick, officially launching the story. Sure enough, in a nearby alley, Su Zhan spotted her: a young girl with colorful hair, clutching a new toothbrush-a gift for Nick, whose old one had been taken. She wanted to prove her Watcher ability to him.

"Sorry, but you won't get the chance," Su Zhan murmured as he walked straight toward her.

Cassie, the prophet, smiled at him, not sensing any danger at first. But as he drew closer, she grew uneasy.

"I'm giving you two choices," Su Zhan said quietly. "One, hand over your ability. Two, die. You can choose-I'm giving you a chance, since you're just a child."

"Who are you?" Cassie asked, turning to run.

But Su Zhan caught her easily. "Not clever. So don't blame me."

"Wait, who are you?" she pleaded.

"It doesn't matter. What matters is your ability-hand it over!" With that, Su Zhan grabbed her and activated his Devour power.

The process was smooth and effortless. In an instant, he had absorbed Cassie's Watcher ability-the power to see the future.

Definitely the Heart of Evil at work, Su Zhan thought, feeling a rush of images flood his mind-countless glimpses of possible futures, all at once.

He released Cassie, satisfied. Now, with the power of prophecy at his command, Su Zhan was ready to hunt down the rest, one by one, and claim every ability this world had to offer.
