Chapter 2 - Snowing Life

'Fuckin Gorilla found me out.'

The euphoria of having the means to fight back instantly got extinguished when he realized that his magic was almost useless against the monster. On top of that, he felt that his 'magic' had depleted to around half after spamming his attacks like that.

Fortunately, that time spent not running and the sudden 'awakening' of his magic let him be able to recover a bit of stamina. So he ran again.

'Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!' Brushing past trees and snow, he tried to see if there was anything he could do with magic he now had.

Saru did not want to die like this, especially after getting this magic. He wanted to survive this.

Magic in this world was something that was built upon the Will of the Caster. It was through the magic within their bodies and the world as the source and the Will of the Caster as the medium that magic spells were casted.

If the Magic in the air and the bodies of the people were just basic foundations, it was the Will of the Caster that formed them.

Ofcourse there were differences in the Magic being casted as well. Most Mages learnt Magic from Magic books, this was widely known as the most accepted and common form of becoming a Mage. This is known as Learnt Magic.

However, in this way, it was much more difficult to enforce your Will to that Magic. Not that it was impossible, but that it was more difficult than the other method of Magic.

The second is Innate Magic. This form of Magic is innate to a person, it is something sort of an attribute of an individual. All people have an Innate speciality of Magic. Most people unfortunately spend their entire life not knowing what it is.

Others who awaken to it, are in a way a step above regular mages. The Innate Magic of a person is much easier to learn for them and it is much more closely linked to them. Their Will is interwoven within the Innate Magic in a way that Learnt Magic is difficult to achieve.

But even so, just awakening Innate Magic does not make you strong enough to instantly defeat beast. There are exceptions offcourse, but this story doesn't follow a man who has that sort of a magic.

It takes training and effort to pursue the methods and path the Innate Magic offers to become familiar, and stronger with it.

The reason behind Saru's stamina boost is because he was unconsciously boosting his body using his Innate Magic: Orange.

Fortunately for him, this unconscious use of magic was sensed by someone much more monstrously stronger than the Gorilla chasing after him.

----------

"Hmmm?" An unusually short man wearing a comical a white shirt with a strange mark at the center, with an orange jacket and a blue and orange stripped hat with two ponytail like points to it hummed as he sensed unusual magic power in the mountain.

The use of the magic was absolutely beginner level. Anyone with only this level of magic proficiency should not be wandering around Mt. Hakobe with it's many dangerous beasts, especially the Vulcan.

'Doesn't seem like it's one of my children. Hopefully I make it there in time. Whoever it is, seems to be fighting something.' The short man thought. Then, he started floating.

----------

'FACK!' Saru cursed as he reached an open part out the forest, but what laid in front of him wasn't a plain or freedom. It was a cliffside, atleast a 100 feet low.

Turning around, he could see through the snow that the monster was about to reach him in seconds. He had to do something. He had to fight back.

'Does it have any weaknesses?...' Saru didn't know anything about the monster, but he knew that there was one thing common for all living beings. A weakness which could grant him a chance to successfully run away.

"ROAR!!"

He had to calm himself down, there was only one chance to accomplish this. Focusing on the monster with his shaking eyes, he did his utmost to stop trembling.

He had to time it right.

The monster came at him like the incarnation of the mountain itself, unyielding and massive. A feeling of powerlessness swelled inside of him.

The moment the monster's punch connected with his body, he knew that if he did not die instantly, his body would be left a mangled mess. There was enough strength in that fist of the monster to shatter his bones.

But it never did.

"ARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHH!!!"

The monster's eyes widened, which just aided in what Saru wanted to do. In the last couple seconds of the punch about to hit him, he managed to move his tired body just enough to scrape by without getting hit directly. It left gashes on his left arm, but he still moved forward while raising it up.

Smirking while his eyes still shook, he locked his left arm at the monster's still widened eyes. The orange hue once again covered his arm, flames ready to shoot out.

"Gotcha."

*BOOOM*

...

...

...

'Fuck, I'm stupid.'

Saru thought.

The snow slowly accumulated over his body. His left arm was covered in burn wounds, while his body too had some scattered around.

In his panic, he had chosen to gamble. A gamble that his magic would not effect him. He did not have much of a choice. Doing this was the only way he could have a surviving chance. Unfortunately, he lost the gamble.

Saru looked down and saw the monster walk towards him. The monster's eyes were perfectly fine too. He had overestimated his magic and underestimated the monster's reflexes and resistance for magic. The moment before his magic hit, it closed it's eyes. Just it's eyelids could block his magic.

"Ha...Haha....Hahahaha....." Chuckling at his own stupidity and failure, Saru looked up at the sky.

The snow seemed awefully beautiful. Maybe it's because of the injuries, but it just seemed more beautiful than ever.

'Man, dying is kinda ass huh.'

The snow changed forms. To figures of life, of a life he could've had. A home, a family, a short old man floating in the sky, a girlfriend, a-

'Huh.'

"Glad to see I made it in time." The short old man grinned with all his teeth.
