Chapter 36 - Despair

It had to be said that Elemental Vision was very convenient for finding things.

After spending several hours on the journey, Yilan and Eula finally arrived at a cave around ten o'clock in the evening.

"The traces in the Elemental Vision ended here. They should have moved the things into this cave," Eula said after checking.

"This should be another secret base of theirs. I can sense the presence of biological activity inside." Yilan looked at her and said, "A battle may break out next. Your duty is just to lead the way for me. If you don't want to, you can wait for me outside."

"Hmph, are you looking down on me? The hardships I've been through all these years alone are beyond the imagination of a pampered young master like you. A mere battle is no problem at all."

Eula drew the greatsword from behind her back and looked at Yilan provocatively. "How about we compete to see who can kill more enemies?"

"Since you are in this mood, I will accompany you," Yilan nodded with a smile, then his body turned into lightning and suddenly rushed in.

"Who is it?!"

The two Fatui guarding the entrance only had time to shout before they fell under the sharp light of Yilan's sword.

"Two!"

Yilan turned his head and looked at Eula, who was running towards him with her greatsword in hand.

"Damn it, you're cheating! Why don't you stop using your lightning skills?" Eula shouted in frustration and anger from behind.

"Then don't use your Cryo element," Yilan responded with a smile, then broke into the secret base with the Favonius Sword in hand.

"Watch your actions, Mondstadt scum! You are declaring war on Snezhnaya! Are you going to betray your alliance with Snezhnaya?!"

"You were the first to betray the alliance, and killing a few of your little minions isn't enough to be considered a declaration of war."

It was so funny.

When La Signora was killed by the Raiden Shogun in Inazuma, you guys didn't even dare to make a sound back in Snezhnaya.

Yilan shook off the blood on the Favonius Sword with disdain and slowly walked toward the Thunder Hammer Fatui ahead.

"Damn it! I'll fight you!"

The Thunder Hammer Fatui activated the power of his Delusion, and the giant hammer in his hand, mixed with dazzling electric light, swung toward Yilan like a meteor chasing the moon.

"Your application of elemental power is too superficial."

Yilan commented calmly, without dodging or evading, but simply raised one hand and lightly pressed forward.

Bang!

At the moment his palm collided with the hammer, a hint of dark yellow light suddenly appeared on Yilan's palm, and his whole body seemed to be connected with the earth, towering like an endless mountain range.

The blow of the Thunder Hammer, powerful enough to split mountains and rocks, hit his palm, but not only did it fail to make him retreat even half a step, it instead caused the enemy to stagger.

"Pathetic…"

"Twenty-three!"

He thrust the Favonius Sword into the Fatui's chest, then slowly pulled it out. After shaking off the blood on the sword, Yilan smiled and asked Eula, "How many did you kill?"

"…Two!"

Eula squeezed out these two words through gritted teeth.

Then, as if to vent her anger, she stomped hard on the chest of a musketeer with her high-heeled boots.

Snap!

The musketeer let out a scream as his sternum caved in. His eyes rolled back, and he kicked his feet — obviously dead.

"Why are you looking at me?" Eula noticed that Yilan was staring at her feet and asked curiously. "Are you sympathizing with this guy?"

"Of course not."

Yilan shook his head and glanced at the scene around them.

Everywhere were horrific sights leftover from human experiments: human organs were soaked in containers, forming a living nightmare.

There were indeed good people among the Fatui, but these were clearly not among them. Killing these scum certainly would not arouse any sympathy.

He was just thinking:

If he ever got involved with Eula romantically and asked her to wear high heels during certain activities, he would probably end up with psychological trauma, right?

The remaining Fatui in the base had almost been wiped out, and Yilan and Eula also found the kidnapped Mondstadt children imprisoned in a basement.

While organizing the children for evacuation, Eula walked over and said, "Don't you feel that our operation seems to be going to smoothly?"

"Is there a possibility… that we're just too strong?"

Although he said it jokingly, what Yilan said was actually true.

He himself wouldn't even mention it — apart from Mondstadt's Grand Master Varka, there probably wasn't anyone in Mondstadt who could challenge him right now.

And Eula was definitely one of Mondstadt's top fighters, on par with Diluc, Jean, and Lisa.

As for who among them was stronger, Yilan found it hard to say.

Now, with the two of them working together, if they couldn't even take down a small Fatui base, then Mondstadt would truly be in trouble.

But what Eula said wasn't wrong — things had gone too smoothly.

Thus, Yilan secretly heightened his vigilance.

It was at that moment—

Boom!

Suddenly, a deafening explosion rang out.

The flames from the blast raged in the narrow cave.

The load-bearing walls were destroyed completely, and the entire mountain collapsed instantly, burying Yilan and the others underneath.

Hahaha!

Among a group of Fatui who had been lying in ambush outside the cave, a man in a white researcher's coat laughed heartily.

"You two little rats from Mondstadt, did you really think I didn't know you were tailing me all this way? Hmph, I simply set a trap for you. The so-called brilliant Knights of Favonius aren't much after all."

"This is all thanks to your resourcefulness, Lord Kloeber. Otherwise, we really wouldn't know how to deal with those two," a fat subordinate said flatteringly.

"Two people wiped out over twenty of us… even though most of us had Delusions."

Seeing the fearful expressions on his subordinates' faces, the researcher named Kloeber snorted coldly.

"It's just because you're short-sighted.

Any one of the Eleven Harbingers could easily crush those two rats…

Especially the second-ranked one, the Doctor. His power and wisdom are enough to make people despair."

At this point, the mountain — once hundreds of meters tall — was nearly destroyed.

The collapse of rocks had stopped.

Kloeber checked the time and said:

"Good. They're probably dead now.

Start digging up the rocks and clean up everything inside. Some things cannot be exposed."

"Yes, Lord Kloeber."

The remaining Fatui obeyed and began digging through the collapsed ruins.

BOOM!

An explosion erupted from within the rubble!

Because the blast was so powerful, all the rocks on the surface were blown away.

Several Fatui nearby were crushed to death by falling debris, and even the earth trembled.

Gray dust filled the air.

From within the dust, Yilan emerged slowly, dark yellow rock element and bright purple lightning element flashing around his body.

There wasn't a single scar on him.

Eula and dozens of children stood protected behind him, sheltered by a barrier formed from his Geo powers.

Not a single person had died.

"Hey, I heard you said you 'felt despair' when facing the Doctor?"

Kloeber quickly ordered the remaining Fatui to attack Yilan, but most turned and fled in terror.

The few who mustered the courage to charge were torn apart by lightning that shattered the very air.

Seeing Kloeber's panicked expression, Yilan smiled.

He laughed and said:

"Then let me show you despair once more."
