Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

The yellow sand burned my feet, turning my pink skin red. Andreas glared down on me, squeezing the stone balcony cracking it slightly. He lifted his slightly bruised fingers up and snapped them. The sound echoed for a moment before the gate in front of me opened. Out stepped 10 prisoners each of them armed with a dagger. Their feet slid across the stone as they were held back as they swung in my direction. Their eyes were bright red, their arms and necks covered in needle marks. As I looked at them blood trickled from my nose and my brown eyes gained spots of blood. The hit into the wall had caught up to me and left my body damaged. My blood trickled into the sand, but all I could do was look up at Andrea's and smile. I became excited once again the taste of my own blood made my heart race.

The chains of the prisoners were released, they came barreling towards me snarling and slashing. When one of them got in range I licked some blood off my face and spat in their face. For a moment he stumbled and I grabbed his hand with the blade. I kicked him in his rib, knocking him into another prisoner making her drop her dagger. I snatched the blade out of the air and stabbed her through the throat with it. His eyes locked on me he pulled his hand away, I pushed forward and grabbed his collar. I pulled his collar toward myself, as I pushed the dagger deep into his eye. He screamed out in pain, his howls of pain made the others hesitate to attack me, but one was arrogant.

"Some human still left in there huh." I chuckled in their direction.

The arrogant prisoner leaped at me, his dagger held high like a snake's fang. I wasted no time and leaped toward him the moment his feet left the sand, he swung down on me slashing my shoulder. The cut wasn't deep enough to stop me though, I forced my fingers into his eyes and pushed off his chest. I hooked my fingers to the eye sockets off his skull and flipped over him as he released the dagger. I crouched on his back for a moment, before I pushed back with all my might and stood up. I ripped his mouth open his jaw snapping on one side, his tongue flapping in the wind as blood sprayed about.

When I fell to the ground my fingers still in the corpse's eye sockets, the head had completely detached. The top half of the skull laid at my side, I picked it up and wrote "A" upside down on the forehead. I held it up towards Andreas with a grin, I held the stance until the prisoners lunged at me all at once. As they closed in on me I dropped the skull, but before it could touch the sand their daggers pierced my skin. Their blades biting into my skin I wasn't able to move, they cackled like hyenas before ripping the blades out.

Excited, Andreas jumped to his feet and yelled "Fire!" before arrows began to fall over the coliseum. I grabbed one of the prisoners by the neck and held them above me like a shield. He screamed in agony as the arrows penetrated his skin as I stood under him. Some of the arrows missed him and hit me instead and decorated my body like branches. I dropped the prisoner, now a pin cushion of arrows like the rest of his brethren. One by one I snapped the arrows, bloody they were dropped at my feet. None of the arrows were able to hit anything vital.

I stood in that coliseum defiant of Andreas, his soldiers and what they stood for. Jane looked at Andreas before gazing down on me and stepping into the coliseum herself. A spear in her hand, she held it by her hip as she approached me. I stood across from her, unarmed and with a slight smile on my face. Drenched in my blood and powdered with sand I reach down for a dagger. I held the dagger firmly in my hand as we both stepped forward. I got close enough to see the sweat drip from her face to the sand. We locked eyes for a moment and then it started!

She thrusted the spear at my face, I dashed towards her letting my cheek get cut. She pulled the spear back as she tried to retreat back. I tossed the dagger into my other hand and held it along the shaft of the spear. The blade of the dagger and the spear clashed, sending sparks onto my back. Jane loosened her grip on the spear and stumbled slightly. I grabbed the spear before it could touch the ground and swung it into her side. "You're still shit with spears." I said as I approached her, and tossed the spear at her to catch it. As the spear touched her palm, I was already crouched at her side. One by one I threw daggers at her while approaching. But I got cocky and kicked back before I could stab her . A footprint on my stomach I coughed up some blood. I laughed before charging back in to keep her in a state of panic. Before I could close the distance she stepped forward thrusting the spear at my neck.

"Die, Sekera!" Jane growled through her teeth

I bit down on the spear, before it could taste my flesh. Jane held the spear tighter now, was this a smart move? I slid on the sand and fell backwards but the spear only cut my lip. I planted my hands into the sand and kicked the spear upward, throwing her off balance. Jane, blinded by her rage and the need to succeed, swung downward with the spear while unbalanced. I pulled my legs downward, slamming myself into the sand dodging her attack. She swung for my side as she regained her balance, but the blade was too far.

I clenched my teeth charging in ready for the steel of the spear to cut my side. Unwilling to surrender Jane released her spear and swung for my face. She punched me clean in the face, knocking me to the ground. I laid on the sand, my skin itching and burning as I was too tired to stand. Half the sky turned red in my eyes as she approached me. She kneeled on me as blood flowed out my nose like a crimson river. The tip of the metal spear touched my chest as she looked down at me laughing, in triumph?

"Gonna shove that spear up your ass after you kill me?" I asked before I spat blood onto her face.

She dropped the spear to wipe the blood from her eyes without thinking. I leaped forward with the last of my strength and grabbed the dagger in her side. Her face lit up with terror, realizing her hyper fixation on my death made her ignore the pain of the dagger I threw into her side. I kicked her square in the solar plexus and tore the dagger out of her side causing her to scream out in agony. Her guts peered out of the wound as the dagger rested in the sand drenched. She reached to cover her wound as I slowly approached her. She backed away and tripped to the ground on her own spear. Cowering and covering her wound with one hand as she tried to crawl away using the other.

I grabbed her spear as I trailed behind her, ready for the final act. As she tried to stand up I cut the tendons in her heels and kicked her back down. She reached out begging for mercy, so I cut off her hand. She started crying so I slashed her eyes and pressed the blade against her neck. When she started screaming in pain and pleading I stood over her and waited. The eyes of the coliseum were petrified with horror, it was as if they all had their tongues removed. When her screaming had ceased I did as she did and sat on her back.

"Im" Jane said

Before she could speak past the second word I stabbed the spear through her throat. She choked to death on her own blood as I sat atop her. Andreas' face looked so red like he was going to explode, but he kept his composure and stood up.

"Open the gates and let this filth out." Andreas said his tongue potent with poison

I hobbled out of the coliseum and into a dark alley before passing out. I awoke in a pile of rotting corpses outside the city. They had hauled the seemingly dead into a pit a short distance away from the walls. I dragged myself out of the pike and started walking. I had escaped and was now on a dark path. The corpses hung from trees and rusted weapons litter the ground, was this an omen?
