Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Giving up

Blue grabbed Kadebra's pokeball and threw it to the ground releasing the psi Pokemon from it's pokeball.

"Kade?" The Kadebra asked in confusion, not understanding what it's trainer wants him to do. After all, there are no trainers nearby to fight.

Blue simply looked at the ground, wanting to punch himself in the face. "Kadabra..." He said, taking a pause, making not just Kadebra but all other Pokemon confused. "Use teleport—teleport to Lavender Town." He said, trying to make his voice as clear as possible. And it was at that moment that his Pokemon realized what truly happened, yet they still clung onto some vague hope that maybe their trainer knew what he was doing and that maybe the Pokecenters are simply better in Lavander.

Kadebra looked at it's trainer in his watery eyes, barely holding back tears before looking at the ground, not understanding his his trainer could mess up that badly. However he knew he had to obey his trainer so he looked back at his spiky haired trainer back in the eyes and grabbed his hands, teleporting the two to a solemn, quiet town where people depart their Pokemon.

It would be an understatement to say that the process was disorienting, they felt like every... single... part of their body was removed and rearranged then rearranged once again in a dimension beyond their comprehension. Even for Kadabra, it was disorienting, not used to teleporting in it's evolved form. However Blue didn't even seem to... react to all of this, just waiting for the time they would pop out at the Pokecenter and they eventually did.

The process was just as painful as the actual teleporting, their body finally getting rearranged back to where they are supposed to be and their newly rearranged mind, still having to adapt to... thinking.

Kadabra spun around and hit the Pokecenter building before getting withdrawn to his pokeball where his body and mind slowly recovered like all of Blue's other Pokemon.

Blue slowly walked towards the tower, it's peak being clouded by ghostly energy that must have been created by the ghost Pokemons there, holding the ball of his Raticate and it was at that moment that all hope was lost by his Pokemon and they realized how bad of a trainer he was... their trainer. If he was going to quit being a trainer, the last thing he wants to do is to bury his Raticate... who he caused the death of. He was still unsure of if he should but he did know if he did, the last thing he would do would be that.

He stepped towards the ground floor of the tower, looking around to see a woman at a counter, wearing a green dress and a priestess at the staircase but... that was it. It felt surreal how... small and empty the ground floor was, perhaps he was just special in not being able to keep his own Pokemon alive.

Assuming they knew what he was here for, Blue walked up to the staircase, his every step filled with fear as his Kadabra curled himself into a ball, just like his Raticate inside his Pokemon, afraid of ghost Pokemon. He looked around the grave site and found one grave without a name. He knew from his games that this was where he was supposed to put his dead Pokemon.

He calmly and gently walked towards the empty grave and released his Raticate out of his pokeball, it's body laying limp, looking at the ceiling with it's limbs being left behind. Thankfully there wasn't anyone on this floor to see him like this.

Blue opened the grave and slowly buried his rat Pokemon, his eyes dripping with fear as if the police were gonna come and arrest him—he probably did commit a crime.

Afterwards, he wrote on the grave "Raticate" just Raticate, never having given it a name nor ever knowing when it was born. But he realized it would be too plain of a grave for his own Pokemon so he wrote out "died in 1996." His tears kept spilling over to the ink, forcing him to write it again and again until finally he managed to keep it in check and stood up.

Blue wanted to walk away—to decide what he wanted to do, train his Pokemon more carefully or retire all together yet it seemed as if the ghost of Raticate was using shadow hold on him. His hands removed his tears again... and again... and again yet they still kept reappearing.

An unknowable amount of time later, the spiky haired kid was still where once was, standing in the position, staring at the same floor, and doing the same exact action. It seemed as if only an external event would cause him to stop and that even would eventually come.

Footsteps rang across the room as someone walked onto this floor, Blue could recognize it from a mountain away, the softness, the speed—it must be his rival Red, ready to humiliate him... once again.

Blue swiped his tears once more and held it just for a bit before turning to see Red, his clothes and demeanor just like before. He walked towards his spiky haired rival as if to challenge him to a battle... right after one of his Pokemon died.

Red stopped, his body right in front of his rival who stared blankly into his eyes. "Are you gonna fight me or not?" He asked in the same clear and concise manner.

It was at that moment that Blue wanted to say no, to tell the truth when suddenly something in his bag started to move, a pokeball—Wartortle's pokeball. He looked at his bag and took a deep breath, he had let his Pokemon done once, was he gonna do it again?

"Yes, I accept your bat-battle." Blue said, thinking if he could just defeat one of Red's Pokemon without one of his dying, he would be worthy or he told himself.

Blue moved away from Red and the grave, preparing for a proper Pokemon battle just as his rival was doing, grabbing their respective pokeballs.

"Go, Wartortle!" Blue said, throwing his pokeball and releasing his turtle Pokemon in unison as Red took out his pokeball and threw it to the ground. "Let's go, Charmeleon!" Red shouted, releasing his Charmeleon out of it's pokeball.

They stood in opposite sides, waiting for their trainer's command, even though Wartortle never forgave his spiky haired trainer for letting one of his Pokemon die, he told himself that it won't happen again and that maybe Blue was smart enough to at least learn from the past.

"Charmeleon, use slash." Red commanded, although he had dragonbreath, it was running out of power points and he wanted to save it for the ghosts. Charmeleon rushed in, his claws sharpening and radiating a white light before slashing at the turtle Pokemon's neck.

Blue looked onto the battlefield, not wanting to disappoint his Pokemon. "Dodge of the way and bubblebeam, Wartortle." The turtle adapted quickly, dodging out of the way and landing near another grave, causing dirt to fly off before countering with it's own bubblebeam.

The flame Pokemon lit up in fear as the beam of bubbles shot at it, waiting for his trainer who himself did not know what to do but he had to give a command. "Charmeleon jump up to dodge the bubblebeam." He jumped up towards the ceiling, but that's when one bubble hit his tail, grounding him down and leaving him vulnerable to another beam of bubbles. Blue smirked. 'Perhaps, I could finally defeat Charmeleon.'

Charmeleon coughed as the water move kept hitting him. "Charmeleon, move out of the way with a flare blitz." Red commanded, using the last of it's power points. Charmeleon dodged away from the beams using flare blitz, like extreme speed before hitting the turtle Pokemon from behind, shocking it as if it was an electric move and leaving it on the ground. Blue looked around to see his Pokemon, his smirk fading.

"Charmeleon, continue using fire spin." Red commanded. He continued the assault, releasing circles of fire at the recovering Pokemon, trapping him in and continuing to burn it even just a bit. However Blue quickly thought off a counter. "Break it with a withdraw then water gun!" Blue screamed, afraid his Pokemon might not hear him, Wartortle withdraw itself into it's shell before spinning around and releasing a beam of water—like a gun in it's path, destroying the fire spin.

"Charmeleon, dodge it!" Red commanded, which he really didn't need to. Charmeleon ducked to the ground, barely dodging the water gun, not knowing what to do next.

Blue's smirk finally returned. "Wartortle, continue with a skull bash." Wartortle released itself from it's shell as it jumped towards the flare Pokemon in a skull bash.

"Charmeleon, dodge it!" Red commanded, just like before. Charmeleon quickly tried to duck out of the way but unlike before the skull managed to connect owards his fiery tail, making him scream as the turtle Pokemon moved backwards, ready to continue with another bubblebeam.

Wartortle smirked in amusement just like his trainer, thinking this is their only chance as he looked at the flare Pokemon slowly trying to get up just like it's trainer.

"Wartortle, continue your assault with another bubblebeam." Blue commanded. He continued with another bubblebeam, causing the flare Pokemon to scream but this time Red knew what to do.

"Charmeleon, use dragonbreath." Red commanded, this was at the point where he was willing to use dragonbreath—the two power points he had of it that is. Charmeleon countered with it's own dragonbreath from it's mouth, the flame purple—not like flamethrower and filled with draconic energy. The result was a giant beam clash, looking as if anybody could win before the dragonbreath quickly overpowered the bubblebeam, throwing the turtle Pokemon to the window, nearly shattering it.

"Charmeleon, go up to him and use slash!" Red commanded, Charmeleon's claws sharped and lit up with white energy just like before as it slowly walked up to his opponent.

Blue walked up to his turtle Pokemon, his face filled with worry "Wartortle, tackle em then bit em!" Wartortle recovered quickly, trying to hide any pain and before Charmeleon could get any closer with it's sharpened claws, he forced him to the ground and bit it's neck, making him scream in pain as the energy disappeared from it's claws.

However Red wasn't one to give up so easily, one of Charmeleon's hands was left freed from the tackle and just as Wartortle was distracted. "Charmeleon, use scratch." He commanded. The flare Pokemon scratched Wartortle right in the face, forcing him backwards before striking again with another scratch, speeding up the process.

It was at that moment, Red was getting impatient, he had to save Mr. Fuji and if speeding up the process meant using the last of his best move's power point, he will. "Charmeleon, use dragonbreath, once and for all."

As Wartortle stood up in it's legs, trying to look tough, Chameleon opened it's mouth and released yet another beam of pure draconic purple fire out of it's mouth towards the turtle Pokemon, forcing him to the ground and finally... forcing him to scream in pain for the first time.

It was at that moment that Blue knew he went too far and quickly withdrew his Pokemon into his pokeball, shocking Red and even his own Pokemon. Even if he disappointed his starter he didn't want to risk the chance.

Red looked at his rival's face, waiting patiently for him to release another of his Pokemon... only it never came.

"Did you give up?" Red asked, blankly as he looked at his rival's eyes which seemed to be... filled with tears? He never looked at his eyes specifically so it felt weird to see it for the first time.

Blue took a deepbreath as he felt Wartortle's ball shaking uncontrollably. "Yes, I did give up." He said, as bluntly as his rival said. Red looked at his spiky haired rival in confusion. It wasn't... like Blue to act like this.

"Did something happen?" Red asked, his face filled with concern which Blue could not see.

"Shut up!" The spiky haired kid countered furiously as he ran towards the staircase, forcing Red to turn around. "None of your Pokemon looked dead." He said in a manner that didn't seem like the usual dark jokes Blue would pull.

Red quickly ran after his rival. "Hey wait up!" He shouted, his eyes reaching his hair as he reached the ground floor only to find nobody. He went outside to look around and still no Blue, giving up in the process, thinking Blue must have used teleport plus he had to save Mr. Fuji.

Author Note: Hey sorry for taking so long, I had stomach problems and didn't want to write while I was sick so that's why it took so long. Not because I was preparing my magnaopus.
