Chapter 20 - The Female Boss Reborn in a World of Poverty 20

The little husband blushed even more. He quickly looked around and only relaxed when he saw no one nearby.

They were outside, and Aries was being way too bold.

If someone saw how close they were standing, he'd be completely embarrassed!

Aries saw he wasn't speaking and knew he was shy, so she teased him again.

"What exactly do you think I'm good at?"

Sky felt Aries didn't sound serious at all when she asked that question.

He had just meant that Aries was amazing for being able to cheer up both elders so easily.

But the way Aries acted just now made him think of something else entirely.

Sky's cheeks turned red. In the end, he bit his lip and shyly whispered, "You're good at everything, my wife…"

"Such a sweet mouth—did you eat candy?" Aries, in a good mood, kept teasing him.

If Sky still couldn't tell Aries was doing it on purpose, then he'd really be silly.

He glanced at her, then looked down without saying anything.

But his mind kept going back to the moment when Aries fed him candy—so embarrassing.

Aries turned away and stopped looking at him, but she couldn't stop the smile tugging at her lips.

"There's still a lot of candy at home. I bought it all for you."

Wife is too annoying… now he wouldn't be able to eat candy properly anymore.

But Aries said it was all bought for him.

She really did like him!

She was so nice! And the candy tasted so sweet!

Thinking about it, Sky could still taste the candy—it was sweet in his mouth.

Aries wasn't upset that Sky didn't respond. She knew she had teased him a bit too much.

When they got home, Mawen hadn't returned yet. Aries went back to her room to cultivate, and Sky headed to the kitchen to cook.

Just as he finished making the food, Mawen came back right on time.

Before he even entered the house, his voice could be heard. "Aries, did you buy the land? How much silver did it cost?"

Even though he was asking, he sounded excited.

It was clear he had a great time bragging all morning—probably got a lot of compliments.

Whether people were being sincere or fake, only they knew.

Aries sat at the table after washing her hands. "We'll go measure the land tomorrow. Don't worry about it."

She paused, then added, "Tomorrow, Auntie One, Auntie Two, and our cousin will come help fix the house. So don't go out. Stay home and help."

Mawen froze mid-smile. "They're all coming to help. What would I even do? I already told someone I'd go to the market tomorrow."

But under Aries's cold stare, Mawen's voice grew quieter and quieter, until he was basically mumbling.

Aries was getting scarier.

Come on, they had so many people—couldn't they fix a house without him?

Hmph! What would a man like him be needed for?

Sky noticed Aries was getting upset and quickly tried to smooth things over.

"Father-in-law can go to the market if he wants. I can handle everything."

Then he looked eagerly at Aries, as if saying, "Look, wife! I'm really helpful!"

Mawen thought this little son-in-law had good sense, and he turned to look at Aries too, waiting for her to agree.

But Aries didn't give in.

She coldly replied, "No one is allowed to go out tomorrow. Everyone stays to help."

Then she added, "If not, I'll cut your allowance."

Hah! People are coming to help, and you want to go shopping?

Why don't you just ascend to the heavens?

Mawen looked away angrily and started eating in silence, not daring to argue.

But in his mind, he was grumbling. Aries was really getting mean—how could she treat him like this? So ungrateful!

Still, thinking about all that silver, he figured it wasn't worth fighting. He could always go next time. As long as he had money, he could buy whatever he wanted.

And Aries did say he didn't need to worry about anything at home. So she was still being filial to him.

Sky shrank back a little. Aries really was fierce.

Not someone to mess with!

After the meal, Mawen wiped his mouth and left again, probably to gossip about not being able to go to the market because their house needed fixing.

No doubt he'd also brag again about Aries being so capable, and how they were going to measure the land tomorrow.

Aries handed a piece of silver—five taels—to Sky. "Keep it for yourself."

She had just remembered that when Sky came, he only had two outfits and probably didn't have any money, so she wanted to give him some for his own use.

Sky looked at the silver in his hand, feeling like it was burning.

When he came to serve Aries, his father-in-law only gave him three taels. Now Aries gave him five and told him to keep it for himself.

Sky's eyes turned red. Aries was truly good to him. If he asked to go visit home, would she say yes?

He worked up his courage for a long time, finally looked up and was about to speak, when Aries beat him to it.

"After the house is fixed, I'm going on a trip. Take good care of yourself while I'm gone."

"You're leaving? Where are you going?"

Sky got nervous right away. Aries made it sound like she'd be gone for a long time.

Was she going to gamble? And stay away until she lost everything?

But didn't she say she was going to build a new house?

Aries saw his red eyes and confused look. Was he reluctant to let her go?

She explained, "I'm going to the capital. I'll be back before it starts snowing."

Before the snow? That was more than a month away—so long?

He had never been to the capital, but heard it was only a few days' journey. Why would Aries stay that long?

What was she going to do?

"I understand. I'll take care of Father-in-law and the house."

Sky had many questions, but since Aries didn't explain, he didn't dare ask.

Where Aries went or what she did wasn't something he could question.

But without her at home, he definitely couldn't go back to visit.

He just hoped she would return early. Maybe by then he could ask—and maybe she'd say yes.

"Just take care of yourself."

What Aries didn't say was that Mawen could take care of himself better than Sky could.

Just don't let me come home and see a sad little pushover.

Aries went to prepare supplies for the house repairs, and after Sky cleaned up, he went back to sewing clothes.

But the sweet mood he had in the morning was gone because of Aries's upcoming trip.

He worried Aries was going to gamble and might lose all the money, leaving them with no house.

He also worried Aries would struggle without anyone to take care of her.

What if she got hungry? Or cold?

He even worried about whether she knew the way to the capital, since it was her first time going.

What if something bad happened?

But all those worries were pushed aside at bedtime by something that made him both nervous and excited.
