Camila had just woken up from her bed when an annoying alarm-like sound began ringing in ears. She truly despised alarm clocks, so she usually never set any, making her even more confused to the sound that awoke her.
She tried extending her arm to reach for her phone, but was unsuccessful in finding the goddamn thing.
Seeing the outcome she was in, Camila just ignored the sound and simply pretended it wasn't there, the most effective solution she had for most of her problems that never once failed her!
She wrapped herself around the blanket and tried to go back asleep. The alarm bell was, however, petty and became even stronger, making it impossible for one to ignore it for long before smashing their head on the wall.
She got up from the bed and threw her pillow in the air in a crazy rage.
"What the hell is making that noise!?"
The sound stopped.
Camila really liked sleeping and after realizing her strategy worked in the end and the alarm was off, she immediately fell on the bed again.
Not a second later, the bell rang again, even louder.
"Argh! Come on! F*ck you!"
"…"
Camila finally resolved to look around her. To her astonishment, she wasn't in her bedroom. Nothing around her seemed familiar, the only thing she knew was that she was in some kind of japanese/chinese stylized room, nothing else.
She thought hard, but couldn't come up with a reasonable explanation of how she ended up there.
Then, Camila suddenly remembered that she had once spent the night with her Asian university crush. So maybe she got drunk and spent the night with him again?
"Wait, but did he really have a room like this? Did he even sleep on such an extravagant bed?"
During her time in reflection, a text box suddenly appeared.
" Transmigration has been successful! Congratulations! Congratulations! You have been chosen to fix the ending of the book: 'Tempted by the Demoness: a Love Triangle of Light and Shadow'.Your conscience has been moved from your world to this universe and now inhabits the body of Yue Fang, the villainess of the story. Would you like complementary information to aid you in your mission?"
"..."
Camila stared at the text box for ten minutes to try to understand a single phrase of it and another 20 minutes to process this load of information. Her head started to ache, so she tried sitting in a comfortable position.
"Why does this sound familiar? this book…"
She heard of this book beforehand, her sister, Sofia, was madly in love with it. Although the critics generally disliked the piece, that girl would defend this work through teeth and nails, claiming it was misunderstood. Her bedroom was filled with merch and she always liked to talk about it with Camila.
The two sisters were indeed very close, however their taste was far too unsimilar. While one was a nerd obsessed with Chinese culture, BL and anime, the other one was only familiar with traditional western media.
But even through these differences, Camila loved her sister and bought this book online for twice its original price as a birthday gift since the original work wasn't really released in Brazil.
Sofia was overjoyed.
There was no need anymore for reading it online by "legal means", she now had a physical limited edition hardcover book! No one could stop her from hugging her sister almost to death!
Camila really didn't care for this type of stuff, but she was really happy for Sofia being happy.
When Sofia died by an armed burglar, Camila only grieved and wasn't able to throw away her sister's stuff, especially that book.
She moved to another apartment, only coming back to clean, but never moving the things in her sister's bedroom. Two years had passed since that, but the past had to come back and make her remember painful memories.
"This is one of those situations where someone gets transported into another world, right?"
Camila seemingly remembered that there was a whole genre based on this concept, although she never had any particular interest in it.
"But… Why am I here? I'm not a fan of the book. It was my sister that liked it, not me! Why not choose someone else that likes the original work?"
Suddenly, the text box changed and it actually responded.
"The system has calculated the most probable end outcomes with each reader and has concluded that a fan of the novel would most likely ruin the upcoming plot, preventing things from flowing naturally. So it has chosen someone with a rough understanding of the book and the most likely one to survive as Yue Feng, the villainess of the story."
A "rough understanding" is a big stretch. When she said that she knew nothing of the book besides the title, she meant it.
"... Can't I just go home?"
The text box immediately said:
"Not until you finish your mission."
That was kinda rude and insensitive.
"... Can you at least remind me of the original plot?"
"Also no."
"What about the mission? Can you tell me what I need to change?"
"Concerning the details of your mission, you will be informed on it in the near future, but it generally consists in changing the fate of the two male leads and the female lead."
Camila really didn't understand why she needed it to change the book. Wasn't that piece of shit already good enough for its readers?
The video game text box seemed to read her mind.
"In case you are wondering why there's a sudden need for a revision in the plot, it's because the biggest fan of the book was unsatisfied with the end and begged for a passing shooting star to change it. The program was moved by such an enormous desire and concluded that it was only right to make it happen."
"..."
A "shooting star"? This must be a f*cking joke.
For her, this story could be summed up with: "Annoying girl with a complicated name that is also a demon goes sword fighting to pursue the love of men with even more complicated names!"
Why is this fan so devoted?
She started mentally cursing the sick person that made the wish.
"I hope they get punched in the face and die of a heart attack while shitting in a public restroom!"
Camila got out of bed furious at this strange fan that put her through this and went to the little table in the corner of the room. She grabbed a pen and paper and started writing what she remembered of the plot from what her sister told her.
She knew Yue Fang died tragically, but also that the female lead, Ming Shan, was secretly a demoness and there were two male leads that competed for her love. Although she didn't remember their names, she knew that one was a "white guy who was an asshole" and the other one was a "demon guy who was actually good".
Any cultivation fan would make a shitty butt face seeing the outrageous things she wrote. On the list of offensive terms defining the genre, there were: "poor chinese rice farmer turns into immortal samurai" and "there's also a lot of sleeves being cut or something."
Camila, or the now Yue Fang, stopped writing and moved her attention to the bedroom, exploring the room for any more clues about this character.
Inside the luxurious dresser's drawers, there were a lot of beautiful and expansive accessories, including hair pins and earrings made of pure gold, fine silk attires and a jade necklace.
Looking to the side of the bed, there was also a beautiful and well polished bronze mirror lying beside it. She took hold of it, made a deep breath and grabbed the courage to look inside it.
On the other side, she could see the fair face of a girl of roughly 16 years of age, voluminous black hair and very dark eyes. Her old golden hair was gone, as well as her previously beautiful green eyes.
The face in the mirror was fair, but not one she knew, giving Camila the feeling that she had lost something.
Then, something hit her.
"Hey, Yue Feng… I think I actually remember this one."
