Cherreads

Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

Emily's POV

My heart was stopping so quickly I will show that it was going to pop out of my chest in a split second, I struggled to release my hand out of the iron grape that had caught it but failed.

Instead of being able to escape the phone fell from my hands and a scream echoed from the bottom of my throat.

The intruder clamped my mouth, and I bit him, a yelp of pain escaped him and I leaped up. However the intruder recovered quickly and yanked his hand forward grabbing my waist and pulling me back.

I started pounding on the chest of the person screaming once again.

"Oh my goodness, Mrs Brown, can You pipe down?"

My clenched fists hung mid-air as I recognized the voice.

"MR WILLIAMS?!"

"I said you should pipe down," he repeated again. I was about to be relieved that it was my boss holding me right now and not some stranger, then it clicked in my mind.

My boss was holding me…

I was glad that my face was veiled by The darkness. If not , he would have discovered that I had transformed into a cherry.

"Mr Williams, do you mind letting me go?" I managed to say my voice thick with embarrassment.

He did so without a reply, then turned on his own phone torch, inspecting the shabby makeshift bed-If anyone would be generous enough to call it that–keeping his hand in the same position he asked me, "Miss Brown, would you care to give me an explanation?"

A thousand thoughts spun through my mind at the same time, but there was no way I could lie about this. I guess I would really end up sleeping in the streets and probably jobless too.

"I'm having some family problems right now, so I'm not welcomed in my home,"

I thought he would try to pry then humiliate me, but he was strangely quiet for a longish moment.

"Mr Williams…" he snapped his head over to me as though he was just noticing that I had been looking at him for a while.

"What is it?"

"Can you let me just work to the end of the month? It's just a couple of days left and I'll send in my resignation letter then –"

"For what?"

I was puzzled as I stayed at him words, initially failing to come out of my mouth but finally I strung them together and managed to speak.

"... Aren't you upset that I did this?"

"I would say disappointed," he said bluntly, and my head fell.

"Then do you want to fire me earlier than that…"

"Can you just let me speak, Miss Brown?"

I nodded.

"I'm disappointed that you couldn't come to me with this, how long were you going to keep up with this?"

I couldn't respond.

"And what about when it started impacting your responsibilities?"

I hadn't thought that far, suddenly I felt so ashamed of myself.

"I'm sorry, Mr Williams. I don't even know what I was thinking…"

Does this mean I'll have to go home? Sandra and Olivia were not going to stop here…they will keep throwing shots at me until finally created a permanent between me and my father–

"Come with me," He said, and I followed him obediently after picking up my things.

Five minutes later, I found myself in his car, my heart thumping. Every inch of it reeked of him, it was almost suffocating.

At first he drove with no words exchanged between the two of us then looking out at the buildings passing by I asked.

"How did you know I was there?"

He took a turn before replying, "You've been acting strange for a while, and you seemed far too happy when you got over time…I knew something was up. So I only pretended to leave and followed you afterwards,"

"Oh," that was all I could see and I kept looking outside, he reached a fork in the road and I noticed he was going in the wrong direction at least if I was heading home.

"Mr Williams, you can drop me here…I'll take a cab home,"

I had been silly enough to just assume that he was actually going to drive me all the way home.

Of course, he wasn't.

I didn't have a penny stuck to me, but he was already letting me keep my job. I wouldn't be so shameless as to ask him for change.

"Don't you say you were having problems with your family?" he asked, I reluctantly nodded.

"So I'm not taking you home,"

That was the second time tonight I was about to let myself get washed away by relief then it was followed by an intense dread that quickly shredded any relief in my mind.

"T-then where are you taking me sir?"

I asked, looking at him instead of the buildings outside the car.

"You'll see,"

I tried to calm my racing heart, this was The Theodore Williams. If he needed a woman for the night he wouldn't have to go through such under-handed methods to do it.

We stopped in front of a well-known hotel in the area called Golden rings. I was confused. Did he have a late night meeting here? It was probably personal since he didn't tell me about it.

"Mr Williams, what are we–?"

"Don't you need somewhere to spend the night?"

My imagination went wild for a second but I calmed myself down once more.

"But sir I can't afford this place, maybe we can find a small motel…"

"You don't have to worry about paying," he said, pulling out his black card and placing it in front of the receptionist who stared at it with awe.

She tucked back a straight round of hair that had fallen in front of her face.

"Welcome to Golden rings, sir." She said with a sultry voice, he barely paid her any attention and just paid for a room and turned to face me.

"I paid for a week's stay,"

"Mr Williams, I can't accept this my salary–"

"I can't believe my eyes…"

I froze recognizing that voice, and slowly turned around.

"Olivia?"
