Kevin was walking home slowly despite the rain. His mind was full of thoughts he didn't understand, thoughts that made no sense. His mind was clouded, as if his past was hidden behind a foggy window. Everything was there but nothing was clear. His memories were the same. What could you do?
Just as he was about to pass another street, he heard voices. He bent slightly and looked.
A dead-end alley. Someone with a knife seemed to be threatening another person. But what was this?
Apparently the one being threatened was a girl...
"Ah, damn it."
Kevin stealthily approached them from behind.
"What are you doing here, beautiful? These streets are too dangerous for you. They'd eat you raw here. Hehehe," the man laughed in the most disgusting way possible.
"Seems the girl has no connection with him," Kevin thought.
With a sudden flying kick, he struck the left side of the man's head.
The girl, frightened, immediately stepped back and slipped. She fell to the ground and screamed "Ahh!"
Kevin punched the fallen man in the jaw once more. The man was completely unconscious.
"Don't worry. I won't hurt you. Come on, let's get out of here. He must have accomplices."
He extended his hand to the girl. "Maybe she's too scared," he thought to himself and smiled slightly to calm her.
They moved away from there and came to a storefront sheltered from the rain.
Kevin went inside. When he came out, he had two donuts in his hand. He gave one to the girl.
Though hesitant at first, she accepted this sweet gift.
"Thank you."
"You don't know him, right? Just some thug, don't worry."
"Hmm..."
"Do you have any relatives?"
"I have a brother... but he's busy. He was supposed to pick me up. But that thug forced me here at knifepoint."
"Don't worry. He won't reach you again. I promise.."
"Um... may I ask your name?"
"Kevin."
"I'm Emily..."
Then a calmness settled over them. Soon after, the rain stopped.
"Well, I should go now... Thank you, Kevin. But this isn't enough. Please let me thank you properly.."
"Properly? No need. Don't worry about it."
"At least let me buy you dinner, huh?"
"...Hmm... alright then, I won't refuse."
"Tomorrow at 4. Right here"
"Okay. See you."
And she left... Kevin watched her until she disappeared from sight... then started walking home again.
