Chapter 3 - Phenex Siblings
Hearing the system's voice, Roy was startled, then thrilled.
This was the ultimate safety net for a transmigrator.
Especially knowing he was in High School DxD—a world where supernatural creatures ran rampant.
A system like this was exactly what he needed to feel secure.
This world was one where mystery thrived.
Gods, devils, yokai, angels, dragons—supernatural creatures—were not only real but highly active.
Biblical mythology, Norse mythology… if a myth existed in human records, it likely existed here.
Moreover, these supernatural creatures often left their mythological worlds to stir trouble in the human world.
Case in point: the Phenex siblings, standing in his living room.
These supernatural creatures wielded immense destructive power, capable of razing cities with ease.
Even humanity's most advanced weapons were no match for them.
On the surface, major mythological factions maintained order, ostensibly safeguarding world peace.
But behind the scenes, these factions schemed.
One wrong step, and Roy could be caught in a supernatural creature's area-of-effect attack, dead before he knew it.
Thankfully, his system had arrived just in time.
It gave Roy a sliver of comfort.
Though his heart raced with excitement, Roy kept his expression neutral, quickly masking his emotions to remain calm.
"You okay?"
Roy looked down at Ravel, still steadied in his arms, and asked.
"I'm fine. Thank you," Ravel replied.
Having never been so close to a man besides her father or brother, she could feel the strength in Roy's arm.
The fact that he was her fiancé, at least for now, sent a flush to her cheeks.
She lowered her head, flustered.
"You damn brat, how long are you going to hold her? Let go of my sister!" Riser roared, furious at the sight.
"Is my sister someone a lowly brat like you can touch?"
"Is your brother okay in the head?"
Roy gently released Ravel, then tapped his temple, whispering to her.
"Pfft!"
Ravel stifled a laugh, then composed herself.
"Onii-chan just cares about me too much. His temper's awful, and he gets mad over little things."
"It's a headache. I wish he'd rein it in sometimes."
"Brat, you're dead!"
Riser, catching Roy's jab, burned with rage, itching to pummel him on the spot.
But Ravel's sharp glance stopped him cold.
With no outlet for his anger, he could only grit his teeth and sulk, muttering empty threats.
Roy smirked.
Backing down? Not a chance.
He couldn't fight, but he could sure as hell talk smack.
Roy knew he wasn't in immediate danger.
That being the case, there was no reason to play nice with Riser.
Riser's teeth ground audibly, his temper nearing a boiling point.
This brat was more infuriating than anyone he'd ever met, yet he was powerless to act.
With a huff, he swallowed his pride and stewed in silence.
"Please, have a seat."
Roy led the pair to the living room, gesturing to the sofa.
Though Roy lived alone, a housekeeper cleaned the place daily, keeping it spotless.
After they sat, Roy poured water into cups and set them on the table before each guest.
"Typical brat," Riser sneered, eyeing the water with disdain.
"No etiquette at all, serving guests such cheap stuff."
"For uninvited guests, water's more than you deserve. Be grateful," Roy shot back coolly.
"You—"
Riser's face reddened, poised to snap, but a flicker of guilt held him back, as if he knew he'd crossed a line.
"Onii-chan, if you keep this up, I'll get mad," Ravel warned.
"Fine, for your sake, I'll overlook this brat's rudeness," Riser said, forcing a smile before shooting Roy a withering glare.
'So this is what a siscon idiot looks like?'
Roy wasn't impressed.
"I'm still clueless about this engagement between us."
"I had no idea you were my fiancée until you showed up. Can you explain it in detail?" Roy asked, turning to Ravel.
"Of course," Ravel nodded
She began to explain the origins of their engagement.
As Ravel spoke, Roy turned his attention inward, communicating with the system.
[System loaded…]
[Welcome to the Dimensional Replication System. May you thrive in your new life.]
'Polite system, huh?'
'System, explain your functions,' Roy commanded mentally.
[The system has two primary functions:
1. By consuming dimension points, you can replicate the abilities, items, bloodlines, or talents of other characters. However, living entities cannot be replicated.
2. By consuming dimension points, you can travel to other worlds.
]
'Sounds powerful.'
'How do I get dimension points?' Roy asked.
[Dimension points can be obtained in three ways:
1. As long as you survive in any world, you'll earn a small number of dimension points daily.
2. You can gain dimension points by physically interacting with individuals who largely influence a world, such as the Phenex siblings before you.
3. The system will periodically issue tasks. Completing them will reward dimension points.
]
Roy nodded mentally.
These functions were straightforward.
