Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Marcus's POV

It's my time to patrol tonight along with a few more betas, but the problem is that tonight, there are fewer rougues, to be exact, no rogues. It's like all of a sudden, all the rogues have disappeared because even before whatever Roy told might be true happened, there were at least one or two rogue sightings or at least the scent of the rogues, but tonight it's nothing.

It's very suspicious how there is nothing tonight, and maybe kind of scary too, because this feels like a calm before the storm, the kind of storm that I am going to hate.

"Marcus," one of the alphas who are patrolling with me tonight, called me.

"What happened? Any problem?" It was my immediate response.

"Yes, nothing is wrong. That is the problem" he sighed and I sighed along with him because I get it, nothing happening right now is a worry, is a problem.

"I understand, buddy, and as much as this is frustrating for me, there's nothing much we can do except wait because it's night, and at this time we should only be protecting our border."

He sighed once again but nodded understanding what I was trying to say because it was during night when everyone in the pack was alseep and trusting the ones who were assigned to do the night patrolling to protect and/or alert them if there's a serious situation.

"I understand, Marcus. I think the morning batch should walk around, a little outside the pack borders, if we don't even get a scent tonight."

I nodded, "I will arrange that whether or not we get a scent, tonight, because by this time, for the past few days, we have killed at least one rogue."

"Yes, that's true. Did you hear the rumour?" he asked.

"The rumour of the 'fearful rogue' around or near our area? Yeah, Roy told about this in his always dramatic way, and it's starting to get annoying."

The alpha with me chuckled, "Starting to get annoying? He should be working in a play because of his dramatic effect on literally everything."

I chuckled too "Yeah but guess he works better as a beta and sometimes having his dramatic ass in a tension filled room helps with the tension"

"I agree-" he stopped mid-sentence when we got a scent, an unknown scent, but god, it is the sweetest and most addictive scent I have ever smelled. Is this a drug or something?

"Rogue," the alpha who was with me said, and immediately transformed into his wolf form, which was a grey wolf with blue eyes.

"Rogue?" I repeated but it was more like a question than a statement because rogues never, never smelled so fucking sweet and addictive.

"This is the calm before the storm, buddy" My wolf, Shadow said. I named him shadow because he's jet black and will follow you like a shadow, you won't even know he's following you.

"It better not be what I think it is, Shadow," and I swear, I could feel him smirking. I swear once again that that damn wolf hates me! I am him and he his me and yet he hates me! Why does he have to be such a pain in ass?!

The alpha kept looking at me, and I looked back at him. He gave me a questioning look, which was saying 'What the hell are you doing?!'

But before I could respond to the look or transform into my wolf form, the damn wolf said something I have always been scared of hearing in a situation like this-

"Mate"

I can hear him laughing, I literally hear Shadow laughing in my head at my misery.

"Don't laugh. You and I both know that having a mate as a rogue is out of the question."

"She's my mate and I don't give a fuck about the pack rules when it comes to my mate"

"Clearly"

I couldn't help but look in the direction the scent was coming from and walk in that direction subconsciously, like my feet had a mind of their own suddenly. I could hear the alpha wolf howling at me to come back, but I couldn't; my feet weren't in my control, and I just walked in that direction.
